Man U were poor this season and if it was not for Chelsea and Arsenal both having campaigns while going through some transitional period they would not have won the PL.
Next year they will have to compete with their arch rival Man City's money pit too.

Fergie has still relied on Giggs, Scholes and co who are solid enough but not what they were and tonight v Barca it was agonising to see just how he got it all wrong.
Man Utd's midfield were poor at best. Park? Valencia attempting to man mark Messi? Top scorer Berbatov not in the squad? Only Vidic stood out for me tonight.

When I saw the team selection I was dismayed and knew immediately they would not compete. So it proved.

Fergie has been suspect for a while ever since he 'retired' a few years back and then reneged on that decision to carry on. Frankly with the money they have, the system and back room staff and a huge support you could be forgiven to think any half decent manager could enjoy much of the same success.
It was Fergie who helped create it all and put them there but sadly his magic formula looks out dated, his tactics archaic and his players less motivated.

He is fast on his way to becoming a relic who doesn't know when to quit if he is not careful.

Time for a younger hungry guy to do the rebuild of the squad that is needed and not entrust the cash to a living legend who has so evidently lost the plot to the modern game.
Jose Mourinho comes to mind. What could he achieve at arguably the biggest club in the world with huge financial backing?

Man Utd must be brave enough to show Alex where the exit door is that leads upstairs to where all gods live and let in the younger eager guy for the next phase of man Utd's glittering history. I fear if they don't then the city of Manchester may see success in the city becoming sky blue.

Barca did teach them a lesson last night, they couldn't get near them for most of the game.

In all honesty i don't see that much wrong with his selection, Park & Valencia were picked because they are workers, they will run all day and won't give the other team any time on the ball, Barca have Iniesta, Xavi & Sergio (not even going to attempt his surname ), who are all world class and with playing park and valencia they would be able to double up on xavi and iniesta while Rooney dropped onto sergio, which then will leave Alves and Abidal to run down the wings. Park and Valencia would do a better at getting out to Alves & Abidal,

Playing hernandez ahead of Berbatov was again the right move, Hernandez plays on the last defender and with Mascherano playing center back they would be vunerable, which showed a few times in the first 10-15 minutes. Although i think Berbatov is a very good player, he can be very lazy and the style man u were trying to play wouldn't suit his style of play.

Man United were dominated by Barca and by far the best team in the world won.

I do agree that this is one of the worst man u teams i've seen in 15 years of watching football and i think he should go out while hes at the top.

I am glad Manu got outplayed , men against boys.

I hate Manu with that pompus prick Fergie and even worse fans and the Manu brand ( most of who used to support liverpool when they were top) I really hope they dissapear up there own arse now.

I deserately hope they die in agony as a club.

When Liverpool were top they had far more dignity in win and deafeat than that mad gum chewing fool called ferguson imp:

Carrick looked out of place imo, should have chose scholes before him. Park and valencia had ran themselves into the ground after 60 minutes.

Barca's system is unstoppable. You can't play without the ball and when you're constantly made to chase the game you will switch off for split seconds and players with the ability of Messi will destroy you.

I agree they need a new manager with fresh ideas.

I would have preferred Scholes in the middle to Giggs.

Yep Man Utd are certainly in decline. Only 3 Champions league finals in 4 years, beaten by that rag tag buch of amateurs last night, only managed to win the league again this season, hopeless.

In all fairness if they had money to burn like Man City and with their reputation they could get anyone to sign for them, but as they haven't the nI think an "average" side is doing o.k.

No one is doubting they are a good side I certainly did not in my post.

My issue with utd is this, when Barca won the streets of barca were awash with their fans.... if Manu won the streets of hounslow would have been awash with their fans...

Do you get it now macca ?

O.K. then.

Should Fergie resign now and move aside for a fresh manager with money to burn rebuilding the squad?

My answer is yes.

...and who should the new guy be? My answer is Jose Mourinho.

Ferguson's legend is pretty much intact no matter what he does, so that shouldn't be any reason for him to make a decision. He's won another league and lost a European final to one of the finest teams around, it's hardly panic stations. He's knocked down and rebuilt his own teams in the past, I have no doubt he could do it again.
