Frankly, ANY opening season game at Highfield Road. Top flight football, a bit of sun on your face, and the promise of afresh season ahead. Is this still the same football club?

Support for the Blackburn game and JD's Huckerby goal above; but a special mention for Robbie Keene's winner against the Villa in the winter of the 1999-2000 season. John Gregory had labeled Wolves 'greedy' and proclaimed Keene was too expensive, and he scored a brace is his debut against Derby, and the winner in a 2-1 victory against Villa with 'you'll get the sack in the morning' ringing in Gregory's ears all night. Perfection!

Well being born in 1990 I guess I haven't seen much success! I only have a couple of memories of highfield road. My dad was a big rugby fan so went up coundon road more than highfield road. My love for CCFC developed myself when I was 16 and had my own money to start going. First away game - Bristol City in the FA cup 3rd round. Micky Adams in charge. 3-1 down to a League 1 side to come back and draw 3-3. It didn't matter that we drew with a League 1 side, it was the fact we came back to get the replay at the Ricoh (that didn't go too well mind). From then I was hooked ....... The 2007/8 season despite ending so badly, had some amazing moments! Beating Cardiff 1-0 away when they had a penalty saved in the last minute, QPR away 2-1 kevin kyle with a header in the last minute, beating the baggies 4-2 at their ground, Hammering barnsley home and away, and two big cup upsets, Man United and Blackburn!

and most importantly a brief reminder of what it was like to be relevant again, if only for 90 minutes.

Think the first home game of that season, had beat Arsenal away 3-0 the first game with a Quinn hat-trick.

The East Stand was being redeveloped that season, so only about 17,000 capacity, drove down from Scampton that afternoon to get a ticket, the only one i could get was in some sort of "trench" in front of the main stand, sat below pitch level, so mistly just seeing legs running about.

We went 1-0 down i think, then, though not sure of order of things, Quinn skied a penalty out of the ground, Ndlovu equalised and Harford(in the only 10 minutes I think he played for the first team) scored the winner.

Great game, all the Geordies crying with "King Kev", think they'd just got promoted.

I went that game, can't remember why but started off the game in the Newcastle end and had to be let through to the Cov end.

Yeah, it was rubbish. I got there really early too as CWR were panicking saying "If you're going, leave now, it will be chaos".

Think one run and shot wide by Best was about it.

His "tactics"(never the twats strongpoint) left Hall woefully exposed on the left on his own, with World class players running at him at will. Felt really sorry for him, and did a good job considering.

Can still see his look now across the pitch to Coleman as if to say "WTF?".

i know alot of fans still moan about fair weather fans coming out for that game but a sold out ricoh was glorious to see.

Aside from the 87 cup run and win there was the last match relegation escape at Spurs in when Oggy had put in another fantastic performance that had helped in no small way to our escape. After the match (couldn't get a ticket I was listening to CWR on my Walkman I heard (probably) Geoff Foster and Rob Gurney interviewing the big man. Yes there had been hugging, tears of joy and relief and handshaking after the whistle had gone but that point was when the enormity of what we had avoided (thanks also to Boro being docked 3 points) sank in.

When they asked Oggy if he was going to keep playing for any more seasons and he said at least one I almost lost it emotionally because he was the only goal keeper I could remember as being our first team goalie. I know that there was Les Sealey (RIP) and Perry Suckling before and as well as him but he was the Goalkeeper I associated with the number 1. It wouldn't be the same without him and the relief that we had escaped coupled with the fact that we had more to come from Oggy was just perfect news.

Either that or the 97-98 cup run where we beat Liverpool, Derby and Villa in succession.

The Everton game at HR when we won 4-2. Having to win the last three matches of the season to stay up.

One in the "not a favourite Sky Blue experience" were the games at home to Millwall in the Full Members Cup, Dublingate at Luton and the Anglo Scottish Cup game against St Mirren (I think) which was rubbish.

4-1 at Vile park, I was in corporate and when we scored I jumped out of my seat and punched a hole in the ceiling panel by accident , at the same time knocking a pint over a vile fan sat beside me. What great memories. Ow and the cup final in 87.

I really enjoyed the 1st Bobby Gould period, not that I thought he was a great manager, it was just something about the atmosphere at the time with all the no-hopers, journeymen, and some of his great finds. That Liverpool game was incredible, but looking back at the highlights I didn't remember Gerry Daly and Steve Hunt still being there at that time, I thought they had long moved on.

Apart from 87, other great moments for me include the West Ham semi in 82 at home (followed soon by the devastating away Leg, my first away game), Everton at home, early kick off, to stay up (in fact the last 3 or 4 games of that campaign where it had seemed hopeless) Bristol City/77 survival campaign.

The "Donkey Kick" goal game - beating the champions 3-1.
Man City 3-2 when Colin Stein made his home debut and the great Tommy Hutch made his debut.
Several games from 77/78, including Norwich (5-4), Chelsea (5-1), Man City (4-2) and the 1-0 win over Liverpool with 10 men, featuring one of the best keeper's performances I ever saw (from Jim Blyth).
Pretty much all of the cup run in '87 - except perhaps Bolton, it was too cold!
The 3-2 wins around different Christmases against Man Utd (96?) and Arsenal (98?).
Sadly not too many more recent ones...

bit of thread but thinking back to the first prem season we won 6 of our first 8 games ,did we play a midweek game a night before someone like Norwich played, so we were the first team to go top on points for 24 hrs ,or somat like that ?

Memory is fading a bit, but I thought we were top after winning the first 3 games.

I remember the first game was at home to M'boro and then we won at Spurs. Can't remember who the third game was though.......

5:2 away at Blackburn 1993. Just watched it back on YouTube, went one down then a great comedy own goal to get us back to 1:1, a screamer by Lee Hurst to give an undeserved half time lead. Just after half time John 'he's so fast it's unbelievable' Williams makes up 20 yards to beat the keeper to a back pass, then scores from a tight angle, off balance.

Quinn then gets involved with a tap in, worth watching for the celebratory coming together of the portly Quinn and the portly Gynn. Then finished off with a great Quinn turn and finish.

That away kit was awful.

Mentioned many of my favourites there. Jim Blyth even saved a pen against Liverpool. We did actually have 11 players on the pitch but Ray Graydon was injured and just limped up and down the touchline! We had already used our sub (only 1 sub in those days!) Was also at Hillsborough when Oggy scored. My wife (girlfriend at the time) missed it! She was too busy looking round the ground at the crowd then said 'What happened?!!!' Many other great memories of better days. Not many games will stick in the memory this season.

I love this game for the odd reason that I couldn't go so gave my my Dad, no longer with us, my season ticket as he had stopped going, what a game he must have enjoyed.
Probably the best present I had ever given him

Yeah I much preferred the previous round against Blackburn at the Ricoh, evening game and sold out home end, atmosphere was electric.

Beating Man United 2-0 just before they won the European Cup in 68, beating Leicester with a last minute penalty after Leicester had a goal disallowed, getting in to Europe in 70 by winning 10 away games, any game which Tommy Hutchison was on fire in, especially at Highbury in 72, Cherish the memory of the 5-4 Norwich game and taking apart Liverpool in 83. However for sheer joy nothing beats the staying up games and of the cup run of 87.

Conversely even relegation games where it was confirmed pale into insignificance compared to the relegation deserving performances against Villa in 91 and Charlton in 08. Abject doesn't do it justice.
