He did get games in his four years here, we're not seriously under the impression that he was due to come good are we? What's the time limit on waiting for that to happen?

To be fair, when he got a run of starts he did always get goals...

I'm not sure I'd even go that far. He had the occasional game where he looked like the player he should, but he flattered to deceive more often than not. I think he had more than enough time to be honest, and if he's not even professional enough to stay in shape as per his job requirement, I don't think he deserves the benefit of the doubt. Especially in a season where we need anyone who knows how to score goals.

So why wasnt he sacked and why has he gone straight into first 11 at southend? I still think there is more to it than we know from both sides!

What? Pay up his contract? Are you serious?

Do you have any idea how weighted contracts are in favour of the player?

No, sacked as in you are refusing to do your job or be fit for work so move on!

I havent read his contract so cant say what it says, with sisu so keen to save cash they would have sacked him if they could.

Could it be we dont know the ins and outs? Turner was injured but played Straight away for cardiff, as did mcpake, as did eastwood!

I am not saying he did nothing wrong, just i think there is more to it!

Nick, you can't sack a professional football player like that.

You can permit him to move on, as Thorn did. You can send him for additional fitness training. As Thorn did.

The player has to have his own professionalism sufficient to step up to the mark. Eastwood didn't

So if a player refuses to train or play he cant be sacked?

http://www.coventrytelegraph.net/coventry-city-fc/coventry-city-fc-news/2011/09/07/freddy-eastwood-not-fit-enough-to-play-says-andy-thorn-92746-29377998/

You think Thorn didn't try to get him to step up to the mark? We tried to offload him to Plymouth, but he refused to go. If we could have got rid, we would have - but it's a contractual impossibility unless the player transgresses badly

It will be a matter of opinion. Thorn set certain fitness standards he wanted the players to achieve. He set them before the season started. When your top earning player and one of your experienced pros does not train hard enough to meet those standards, you have to make a stance. Otherwise what example doe that show to the young kids.
Fatwood would argue that he was fit enough and did not need to reach Thorn's standard.
Hence if Fatwood is training and says he is training as hard as he can but still is not hitting the mark.
Thorn would lose any unfair dismissal tribunal.

Fatwood should have been leading by example and training harder than anyone inspiring the kids and earning his money and saving our club.
