I remember my old man saying to me "son, in life you will end up with the woman you deserve" it's true you do.

So it got me thinking maybe this is true for football fans, maybe you end up with the team you deserve. For as long as I can remember there has always been an overwhelming feeling of negativity and moaning from a fair few city fans I know. It's like they just love to moan at someone or something.

Yes the club has been run poorly but it doesn't excuse the fact that as fans we have never really got together and tried to drag a squad of players through the crap and stick by them. Barely any ex players have come forward and said yes the fans were great etc etc etc, the reason for this is we never really have the players backs. We're happy to jump on a bandwagon when there's a sniff of Wembley or a decent cup run but when the going gets tough we get a going.

In my opinion I'm not sure we're gonna have a club for much longer until the fans start showing we actually want a club. Just turning up on a Saturday and saying at least I'm here isn't enough anymore, real passion needs to be shown by everyone in the stadium singing shouting or screaming whatever it is.

The club is dying as I don't think our fans really care, the match, it's just something to do on a Saturday isn't it?

I don't think we can blame anyone except ourselves as we have allowed this to happen due to apathy and not really giving a fuck.

Surely now we're down now to fight or flight, what's it gonna be?

Ludicrous post.

City fans were so amazing that they deserved top flight football for 34 years, but those same fans are now so bad the club is heading for L2.

Ridiculous post. This club was starved of success even in the championship days - and we were getting 17-18k every week.

I think in the past some of the protests have been embarrasing - like the mock funeral and 30 people staying at the end for 5 minutes but that's the only slant to any supporters.

I understand where the OP is coming from to a certain extent, but don't think posters on this forum are who this is really aimed at. Most people here have stuck by the team.
City have got a loyal hardcore but probably more fair-weather fans than your average team. I personally believe that this is down to the fact that the glory days of the late 60s brought in fans who to a certain degree were glory hunters. Once the novelty wore off it was back to the hardcore and whichever fair-weather fans fancied going at any particular time.

I do think that the fans are key to the future of the club, prospective buyers of the club need to see potential for attendances to rise (and sustain) to support their investment, I don't think they'll see that with fans actively and publicly boycotting.

I can sort of understand the OP stance on this but I think that the message is totally wrong to blame the fans for being fickle at this juncture.
I wish we were more loyal like Norwich fans, as vocal as Crystal Palace fans or that we had the away support of Leeds but we don't and I applaud the regular 8000 who are he true hardcore and despite being fed shit still turn up and try to get behind their team. I know that at times I have felt like tearing my eyes out with my hand and I only go to about 8 games a season!!!
It would be great if the supporters who have given up would come back regardless of what is going on and get behind the team but I am not holding my breath and can't blame them however they are part of the problem and could be the solution if they could find a way back. It is up to our owners to get them back.

I actually agree with the guy to an extent. fernandopartridge probably sums it up in a more articulate manner than I can manage.

This situation would not have been allowed to happen in Italy.

Totally correct that it is not really aimed at posters on here. But CCFC fans as a 'group', will do anything, say anything (city til I die, etc), for the Sky Blues. Anything that is, apart from actively get behind the team.

What an absolute shambles that petition was, so much made of it, and less people signed it than would turn up to a JPT semi final should we get there. Shows how much the people of the city who shout SISU out at every opportunity, really care.

I'll emphasise again, that my thoughts, and I'm sure the thoughts of the original poster, are not really aimed at people on here. The majority on here are people who seem to have followed the city through everything. They are perfectly entitled to whichever views they hold, and if they want to boycott, NOPM, SISU out, Sixfielders, hillers, etc, fair play to them. Just wish so many people wouldn't try to stamp their view on everybody else.

So you think there's nothing wrong with, for example, the fact we got 28000 against Gillingham (all we want is to see the city at the Ricoh, and we'll get behind the team, remember)... Then got 10000 the week after against I think Yeovil, in arguably a far more important game for our at the time playoff ambitions (on the back of a win against Gillingham).

SISU apologist, that's a good one, not heard that before. They are a disgrace, and I can't see why they don't understand that the only way to get themselves out of this mess is the invest even a small amount in the fortunes of the playing side.

But the fans who think that SISU "fucking off" tomorrow, will miraculously lead to this club becoming great again, are the ones who are deluded.

To get 8 to 10 thousand fairly regular with the on field dross of the last 12 months is amazing really most league one clubs would be ecstatic to get three quarters of that, a glimmer of better things last season saw a regular 13000+ The potential is there unfortunately sisu and Fisher are also there too and there's the problem.

I understand the sentiments of the OP. As a group Cov people do like to have a good old moan.

But you cannot get away from the fact that there are 8000 people sticking with the team despite the dross. They aren't going just to have a go at the players. But it is impossible to cheer hoofball.

Also it is quite clear to me that nearly everyone has realised that, irrespective of who is manager or what the team is, the clubs owners are sucking the life out of the club. So that is always in the back of everyone's minds.

No matter what optimism they go to games with there is always that bit of despair niggling away in the background.

You lost me at 'fans need to look in the mirror'. Yes there are a few clubs which would have been more active with protests etc on a bigger scale, but not that many. I'm amazed that we still have so many that care.

Negativity from fans is not uncommon around the country, it's not just a cov thing. If things aren't going well then football fans will moan, if things are going well then the negativity stops. The fact is we've been served up shit for so long that there isn't much to be positive about. That naturally breeds apathy for most.

it seems ludicrous to blame the fans to me. Football is about hope, hope that your team can progress as a club and have some success. There seems that there's not even hope that we can win a single game at the moment. How that is anything to do with the fans is beyond me.

So the fans are to blame for mismanagement of the club
The fans are to blame because we have had shite managers ( not Eric Black)
The fans are to blame that every greedy person involved in the club has raped it of money
The fans are to blame all round ......... for all defeats , relegations.

Its because of the Fans that this club exists in the first place, I am a little offended that you have correlated the demise of the club and blamed the fans for it.

This has got to be the worst Post ever on this forum.

I'd want any potential owners to know enough about this club and indeed the city and surrounding environs to realise that with benign leadership, it will pull in attendances upwards of 25k if we have genuine aspirations of promotion.

If prospective owners think the 9k we are getting at the minute is as good as it gets then wouldn't want them. Surely we all want owners with a feel for the history of the club and wouldn't need to see 20k+ 'now' to realise what we could be?

Cov fans have been fantastic all the way through this.
Despite continuously feeling like the club is not been ran correctly.
Having no connection with the owners.
Going from 30 plus years in the top flight to 10 years of absolute failure.
With possibly one or two seasons of hope that still ended in failure.
Now watching park standard hoof ball at the bottom of division 3.
8000 still turned up. They are not enjoying it yet they are still there.
Fair play to them.
The fans are the only ones in this mess who are free of criticism.
The very 'odd' clown on here has a pop at the fans. However there really is only a couple of muppets on here who have done that.
Strangely enough they are same ones who focus most of their attention on the council, the charity, Wasps, local papers, managers, players and lastly our fans . They spend very little time on our owners.

I know fans of many different clubs and they all admit they would have given up years ago and often ask me if I'm still bothering to go up the Ricoh and they laugh and shake head when I say yes.
The club hasn't done anything to deserve the supporters they have in at least 30 years. We are just mugs.
