I don’t understand this notion of Biamou being “not that gifted”. I think it’s all perception. It’s because he came from non league for no money. He’s a good player.

A lot of it comes from the fact he came from non league in his mid 20s and didn’t score in the league until mid January. A lot of people got on his back and never stopped. It’s hard for some to change their first impressions.

That's the first time that Quinny and "quick" have appeared in the same sentence.

Here's a suggestion for this thread:

Sean Flynn. Came from non-league. Didn't have anything exceptional for Prem level. Didn't look like a talented athlete. But he battled away for the cause every time without creating any headlines or having a huge impact.

Until a game against Arsenal at HR. He was absolutely brilliant with the fans on the lower terrace of the Sky Blue stand going absolutely mental as he made international defenders look very average. It was a brilliant day to see such an unheralded player have his day in the sun.

One of the blokes I went with - who had been one of Flynny's harshest critics - gave him a standing ovation at the end.

First of all I really don't understand why you support us when you just seem to want to abuse our players.

Second playing for two Premiership teams in your career (as Flynn did) means that you are highly decent at football by any definition.

Whilst we're here what did you make of Max's goal yesterday?

Every day you seriously prove that you know fcuk all about football.

Sean Flynn was a classic ccfc cult hero. He’d chase lost causes and look busy but often shirk the 50 50 challenge

Konjik has been mentioned as well but he was someone who shirked injury and tried to play as little as possible until the management made this an issue.

You can’t also really look at other clubs and what players did there. Paul Furlong was dire here (admittedly under the imbecile Butcher) but his career proved he was overall a decent footballer who made it in the game

Biamou has an ability to score goals like that. Would I deal him and Bakayoko for the two Peterborough forwards? In a heartbeat.

Laughing. I think classically you are taking the debate in a number of different directions.

In the simplest of terms you don't make it as a Premiership footballer with 2 different clubs by being 'utter shite at football.' To get anywhere near that level you have to be completely exceptional.

At Premiership level when you get there you may not look like the best of the best against ultra elite players but to be anywhere near the pitch you have to be an amazing footballer. It's just careless to say that anyone who has made it to Prem level in one of the most competitive leagues in the world is 'shite at football.' As we've discussed in previous threads making it as a professional (never mind in the Prem) is statistically the hardest thing to do vs. nearly any other career. Criticism is fair enough when it's balanced but as someone who has played with and against elite players - seriously these guys are different class and should never be called 'shite at football.' As someone who appears intelligent (but sometimes stubborn!) you must see this?

Sometimes I’m over critical too but even the two bob players (so we thought at the time) that turned out at the recent Ccfc v Leamington and Warwick Supporters, such as Morrell, John Williams, Edge et al, we couldn’t get near them and they took the Micheal out of us (in a good way!).

Big bad Dele Adebola springs immediately to mind for this, probably Konjic too. Im surprised by the comments that Konjic was a shirker, was this in Strachan's book or something? I always remember Konjic as someone who played when he probably shouldn't so presumably, if it's true, it wasn't reported at the time?

I like the sound of this thread Dreamer. On Max though I would say he's more than proving himself at this level. And that goal was not a one off - we've seen him do that before.

It's early days at this level for Max but he's so far caused problems, including against one of the best teams in the division.

I wasn't suggesting the goal was a one-off as he seems to specialise in them (he missed a much easier chance earlier in the game!) - I was just saying it was an incredible strike. If that'd be on MotD by Salah or kane they'd be creaming themselves for weeks.

To be fair in the early days of the PL I don't think the standard was as high as now. Stuff like training, sports science etc has upped the game considerably along with an ever increasing influx of top foreign players due to the silly wages coming in.

It was still top flight so you needed to have some sort of ability but at the very least an exceptional work rate and fitness level could see you do reasonably well.

My absolute hero -Georgie Boateng.
Loved that bloke. Wanted to play for City and play like him.
My shirt with his name on is going up on my garage wall.

Not entirely sure that everyone understands why we are having this thread.

So far we've had mentions for Hadji, Boateng, Dublin, Hartson, Hutchison, Wallace, Ndlovu, Huckerby and Gallagher
