I’ll say it again as I did in another thread. If we manage to get Kane out in the summer, it was a successful signing. Did the job we needed him to do for a season. Seems to get on well with the squad but Robins has never been a fan of complex characters

Usually, ratings have a second component of how many games a person plays over the course of a few seasons.

Let me get a link.

That's the one. Of course, different game, different activity criteria needed.

Sometimes I wonder what the fuck we're up to.

Recruitment model works on a 12 month rolling basses assessing stats and scouting players to work out who would improve us.

Then out of nowhere a player becomes available on the cheap because they have an attitude problem and we just go for it.

6 months down the line the attitude problem player has to be moved on because he has an attitude problem.

Think it was probably needs must, with Dabo injured/suspended and Eccles injured for most the season I’m not sure who would of played right back if we didn’t sign Kane. As others have said if we can offload him in the summer he’s done his job and no harm done.

McFadz got slated at the beginning. Fans moaned about Kelly and Sheaf. Last summer loads of fans wanted to bin Allen. They wrote Moore off before he played a game. Basically a lot of our fans have poor judgement on players ability.

I am not in a rush to slate either Kane or Bidwell. I dont see either as terrible and I doubt we have seen the best of them yet?

Dabo for all his attacking energy has very little end product and defensively loses concentration and switches off too often. But I also think he is still developing just as Maatsen is.

However, away at Forest I thought Dabo was fantastic defensively. I hope he can achieve that more consistently next season. For a big strong lad he doesn't impress in the air. Crossing - that will depend on how much extra training ground time he is prepared to put in?

I’ve been a critic of Dabos end product for a while, but there was a step change in that just before his injury. If he can stay fit I’m quite hopeful for him.

Da Costa, always in the winning side when he played. Deserved the points.

Think the question remains on how much influence he had during those games, but it is a team sport.

More games would have given a truer reflection of his ability, I believe.

Every season you put out these graphs putting out clearly ridiculous claims like the one above. I think last season it rated Brandon Mason as one of our best defenders. Does no-one ever think to change the model?

Kane was always a middling Championship player and someone to give us another option. Bidwell, however, has an impressive track record in the Championship. Personally, I think he’ll come good next season.

Think dabo has a lot of improving to do and probably knows it and the staff know it.I Like the boys attitude and will be ahead of Kane, who if has an attitude can't see ADI allowing it to sour the squad.

I think the Kane signing was just circumstantial, he was fine as a signing providing Championship standard cover for Dabo.

Hard to disagree with this I really don't like him, but it was a needs must signing. He covered, and allowed us to not have to rush Dabo back and it meant we didn't need to rely on Da Costa

It’s just an extension of people who claim Kelly is undroppable because our PPG is better with him in the side. The graphs are actually more nuanced taking into account the opposition. I agree it’s useless, except to point out the major flaws with PPG as a player stat.

At the start of our League 1 winning season before he got injured and replaced by McCallum, Mason was probably our best player.

Give the lad his due, he finished the season looking a far better player than when he 1st came to us, getting used to the way we play and to his new team mates obviously took a little while but I have no doubt Bidwell will prove to be a shrewd signing

Don't disagree with this.

He was brought in to fulfil a role and he's done that. Obviously the management team would've been well aware of his attitude issues when he became available but we needed support in that position and he had plenty of Championship experience.

So sometimes when these type of players become available clubs just have to roll the dice.

I think that will be the case if we are able to move him on without bother this summer.

If we’re stuck with another player with two years to run on his contract in the bomb squad then you really have to question if it was worth plugging a gap for a few months.

You can’t plan everything to a tee. The best organisations are dynamic and flexible and Kane came in a did a decent job when required. So, if we have to offload him after 12 months, that’s absolutely fine.

One thing that baffles me is that a lot of people seem to have lot to say about the ‘bad’ recruitment we’ve done. Yet, we’ve continually improved over the last 5 seasons because of the recruitment we’ve made.

With the rate of our success and development, it’s inevitable that players we recruited to then become surplus to requirements. Examples such as; Jobello, Westbrook, Mason, Pask, Baka to name a few.

Perhaps, but it's about what's available at that particular time and who's on the club's radar.

I don’t think Kane was that bad. He didn’t play well towards the end of the season but most the time he did a decent job, got a few assists and scored a goal.
If his attitude is shit then I agree we should look to offload him but if we can’t then it’s not like he’s a dogshit player like Dacosta

Robins does seem quite all or nothing though - you're either with him, or frozen out. Not sure there's much place for a player to be roundabouts if they're moaning they're not playing.

As I say if Kane is being a dick then offload him. I just don’t agree with those that are calling him shit when he’s clearly not. As for those slating Bidwell, clearly clueless

It still needs somebody to take him, though - and we did pay a fee for him. Now, you'd assume he has enough ability that somebody will take that punt, but we're tied up until and unless they do.

I know upon his signing it said the fee was undisclosed, but did we actually pay a fee for him or did we just take over his contract?

As you say, it says very specifically he joined for an undisclosed fee, so clearly some compensation went out.

I have actually previously said that I love the way our recruitment is working ahead of itself. I just don’t think this is a great example given it’s outside the model and the issues that mean he was shipped out of his last club mean he is being shipped out here.

Nice shoehorning of the random nutters that love a moan in for like though.

We don't really have a model though. It's just do the best we can with what we have.

With regards to the proactivity side of things though, the club can't be proactive all the time. They also have to be reactive as well and Kane is a classic example of the recruitment team reacting to a change in the market or rather a player suddenly becoming available.

It's not really something that's out of the ordinary.

The issues aren't necessarily always synonymous with a lack of productivity either. Kastaneer was scouted by Badlan for years for instance and he still turned out to be a terrible signing.

Dabo for me. It was frustrating to see him moved around so much. It’s no surprise his performances dropped significantly when this happened. The team suffered for it too. When you watch the highlights from earlier in the season so much of our success involved Dabo and Maatsen at wing back.
