FA/Premier League meeting tomorrow (1 Viewer)

Meeting taking place tomorrow between the football governing bodies to decide on whether to postpone football. I'd imagine the EFL would be included in this.

Will be interesting because the TV companies will be desperate to play on with their huge coverage over Christmas.
PL managers are clearly keen on a break after listening to Tuchel and Klopp.

Will hurt CCFC's cash flow as Boddy mentioned. That would be at least 3 home fixtures postponed and likely moved midweek dates.

However, it would be a good rest for the likes of O'Hare and Gyökeres who have hardly missed a minute while giving Waghorn, JCS and Hamer time to recover.

Biggest frustration for me would be having no football to watch over Christmas, whether that be in the stadium watching Cov or at home watching the PL.

Not sure if it will have a massive issue on ccfc finance. Who knows how it will go but having two or three games off is better than behind closed doors although that might happen anyway. I just reckon they have to do something collectively thats more fool proof.
Two/three week shut down I reckon

If they did decide to stop surely they couldn't just try and cram the games in, they've have to add a few weeks to the end of the season.

Can see a lot of pressure from Sky and BT being applied so will be interesting to see the outcome.

Heard a similar discussion in another sport but the feeling was if they put the season on hold they'd just have the same problems when it started back up.

Boddy said it was more to do with cashflow issues. The 3 home games you planned for being cancelled is a big blow. That's before you factor in the potential lower crowds being rearranged to midweek fixtures.

Next season is starting a week earlier, so I'd imagine they'd prefer not to finish this one 2/3 weeks later.

I don’t see the point in postponing for a few weeks. Who is to say it’s not worse then? Then what you delay another 3 weeks? It doesn’t work does it

we should carry on and play like the games like today if it is safe to do so. It’s not ideal but then nothing is. The alternative is worse in my opinion.

Not sure if the government can close pubs, bars, restaurants etc which they will and allow thousands to attend footie coming into towns and cities from all over the country and beyond.

Can’t see the point of delaying it. They haven’t got a crystal ball as long as they agree a protocol for how games are postponed and adhere to it to me that’s all that needs to happen. Why delay it when it 3 weeks time it may be worse?

If teams can field 16 players then they should play…simple as that
Especially in the Prem - surely their squads are big enough ffs

They should have made the fixture list front end heavy imo. So if something like this were to creep up, it wouldn't cause a fixture pile like Rotherham had last season.

Also think that they should have made all fixtures set in stone (obviously bad weather etc would be excluded), if you can't field a team you drop the points.

But at what point does this disrupt the integrity of the game?

There's one thing having a squad, another playing with without 8/9 key players.

I'm desperate for them not to cancel it, but we've got to be careful.

Certainly in the championship, international breaks should have been cancelled.

How many teams had multiple players away on duty? Did every team need to have a week off?

Didn't even get to a vote and clubs told if they've got 13 fit outfield players and a keeper they have to play. Hard not to imagine there's been some calls from Sky, BT and Amazon.

Well, tbf the Premier League clubs accept the riches those TV companies bring them, and use those riches to amass huge squads of players. Of course they should play on.

I would have thought it difficult to bank on advance and away ticket sales in the current situation, some people may want refunds if rearranged fixtures are for dates/times when they can’t attend. I guess some costs will be avoided, but then income lost from refreshments and car parks will probably offset those savings. All in all a tricky thing to predict.

I think it’s right they should be made to play on if they can put a squad together.

If you couldn’t put together a team and you’ve got unvaccinated players then you forfeit and the opposition gets the 3 points.

Arteta kicking off saying that the players are tired and on about player welfare from getting COVID.

Surely the players are much better protected than somebody who has to go and work in Tesco?

Their wages and what they earn aside, they can train outside in small groups. They also have the best healthcare that money can buy.

I think this is part of a wider piece for those in charge to pay attention to the needs of the players. Jordan Henderson came out with similar yesterday (I think it was yesterday?).

Just seen Gerard say that a player didn't want to be around other players because he was showing symptoms and has a family.

Isn't this just like normal people? Do they want football to stop and footballers to sit in their house on their own?
