Hey there - Morecambe fan in pieces.

Really looking forward to the cup match at your place. New ground for us, of course. Any tips, hints, thoughts about our visit? Any good away friendly hostelries near the ground.

What sort of crowd would you be expecting for this one?

I'm guessing we're not a particularly exciting prospect for you lot but we'll bring a few and I think we'll create some sort of atmosphere. We tend to be a jolly, friendly and enthusiastic bunch. We have a saying "Never let the footie spoil your day out!"

It'll be good for us to see Carl Baker again, who we really rated, but I notice from here you're not too enamoured.

:welcome:

I wouldnt expect too much of a crowd. We struggle to get people to come for league games, let alone the FA Cup

Did Baker used to play for you guys then? Wondered why he was so excited on Facebook about drawing you guys (after te replay that was).

We got about 6000 for the first round match vs Arlesley...I can't see it being the much higher than that to be honest.

Welcome aboard - I'm one of the rare Baker fans around here! I imagine we'll get 8000ish depending on how many you lot bring.

8,000 max I'd say. You're best off having a few bevvies in town then getting a cab up to the Ricoh, not many good pubs close by.

Sadly baker isn't a favourite as for every good thing he does he manages to do something woefully clumsy, can't fault his workrate or attitude and off the field he seems a good bloke.

Seeing as he will be playing against a former club he might be 'up for it' like he was against the bluenoses

I remember spending £120 to watch us lose at your place a few years ago-hopefully you spend much less and the result's a little different

I like Morecambe! (He was the one with the thick glasses wasn't he - not the short fat hairy legs? That was little Ern!)

No, he's awful. C-Baker - the C does not stand for Carl.

If we play like we did against Arlesey, Morcombe will win, seen them a few seasons back and they looked a good team.

Don't know how you can say that Don.

Whether anyone rates him as a player or not, the fact that no-one can deny is, that he is very inconsistent.

I would say we have maybe had 3 good games out of him this season, 3 or 4 average games and quite a few rank ones too. Very much follows the same pattern as last year.

That is not quality. If you are quality, quality shines through much more often, with much more regularity.

We have one player who looks quality and that is David McGoldrick.

Wish Baker was quality but he's not.

Think it is a mixture of people being bored, fed up with the City and there being a dearth of current threads at the moment.

This one is a case in point. It's the only current thread.

I do hope Don was being sarcastic.

It's all by degree though I suppose. if you're comparing him to Leigh Jenkinson for instance he may well have a point.

personally I like Baker, one of the limited amount of players who can actually make something happen on the day but totally agree he is too inconsistent playing one decent in about 4-5.

Exactly, remove bakers inconsistent moments of quality. You are not left with a lot at the moment.

He is total confidence player who needs encouragement from the stands I think the groans destroy him, unfortunately

Mcsheffrey and Bell are consistently inconsistent with moments of quality....they just don't run around as much as Baker.

Very good point.

Baker tries harder. That doesn't equate to quality. Fans like him because of his endeavour. This supposed quality only occurs once every 5 or 6 matches.

I would say once every 15 to 20 mins in a match, followed by a mistake, groan, mistake bigger groan.
Moment of quality, 10 minute purple patch. Mistake groan, shouts of discouragement...so on......so on.....

If he has such "quality" why has he had such an incredibly mediocre career?

Everything is relative, for me it is unlikely that we would have carzola in our midfield.

So for us and league one I think he us quality and needs support from the stands

It depends what you equate to quality. He often does a lovely piece of skill, go past a player ........then 9/10 chooses the wrong option or knock it out of play. There is very little end product.

In the league
16 appearances
2 goals
0 goals from open play
2 assists - 1 a 5yard pass to Barton who smacked it in from 25 yards vs Bury. The other was a 'proper' assist cross to Goldie to head in.

what game was it, Arlesey or Scunny, 3 on 2, Bakes flying up the wing, all the time in the world, Goldie on and he punts the ball, it flies 20ft above everyones heads and goes out, the far side of the pitch.

this is not quality.

it was Arlesey, the whole team bar Christie played like. DMC was not on the pitch.

The ball ended up in the stand opposite side if the pitch he was trying to pick out Fleck.

I share many concerns over Baker, in particular the issue that he tends to lose possession far too frequently, however.....

talk about bending "facts" to fit the argument -

"0 goals in the league from open play" - a statistic specifically constructed to ignore the goal from open play in the Carling Cup against Brum and the goal direct from a free kick last Saturday.

It doesn't strengthen the argument, it just looks petty.
