Which bad cup defeat at Rochdale???

I was at the one in the last decade, but the one in '71 (?) made me cry - I was only 11.......

Obviously '87. But going back a very long time, 1962 versus Sunderland. Winning 2-1 with late goals from Curtis and Bruck. A fabulous era to be a City fan. Even losing 1-3 on a mudbath to Man U in the quarter finals a few days later felt like a good time. Perfectly good goal disallowed. The period of Best, Law and Charlton. But also of Bly, Humphries and Rees.
Worst? Sutton, Rochdale, Northampton, Chester, Scarborough etc.

Best- 1998 Villa away, quality!!
Worst- I can't remember the year but it was Norwich away, halfway to Norwich on the coach on Sat morning only to be told the game was off due to frozen pitch. Took the coach up on the Tue night for the rearranged game and we lost 1-0, and I am sure David Phillips played for Norwich that night,

Nightmare journey and it took us what seemed like days to get thee and back!!!!

For those that were there, the 87 cup run won't be eclipsed.....but since then we've had in general better days away than we have at home in the Cup imo:

My favourites

Villa 5th round in 98 - 1-0

Leicester 4th round in 99 - 3-0

Got a bad feeling about Friday for some reason, all sorts of strange omens at play potentially and City will miss Fleck.

As even I am getting bored of the semantics about the offers and counter offers, what's your best and worst FA cup memories.....

I would imagine that Newcastle away would sit in the bad memories....... although the night got better later on.

Playing for Kings Lynn was Terry Bly who became a CCFC favourite - there was uproar when we sold him and bought ------ GEORGE HUDSON to replace him !

Best is obviously 1987 cup winning season
Lots of not so good
Rochdale 1971 I think , match postponed we had a big crew , so went to see Blackpool v West ham , city boys sided with west ham took the Kop but then Wet Ham boys turned on us. Had a brand new cord jacket ripped by police dogs all the top boys were there , sparrow , hatchet , peanut , Mansfield boys. Went to the rearranged age lost 2-1 went again 1993 lost 2-0 bogie team.sutton , Northampton etc etc

Only ever been to one-the 4-1 at Blackburn under Dowie. Dele's goal was one of the best individual goals I've seen from a City player-we decided to go to the Leicester game the week after and it was the polar opposite.

Such is life supporting this club

I remember at Northampton that my friend bought a cup of tea (it may of been soup), I distinctly recall it rained so much he was never able to get to the bottom of the cup.

As a trendy young man about town, I started the day wearing a denim shirt underneath a cream jumper, I ended the day wearing a denim coloured jumper, and a ruined denim shirt.

Also recall on the way to Sutton that the Harry Shaw driver got lost, we turned up so late had no time for dinner, had to survive on one bag of iced gems. Only space left to stand was next to the pylon so didn't get a great view. Then we were kept locked in at the end (probably only for 5 minutes) as presumably the police expected us to win.

Scarborough was terrible, went up early to see the sea, and to enjoy the beachside atmosphere. The tide was miles out, and the whole place was pretty much closed. At least with 15 minutes to go we were still 2 up from the first leg. What could possibly go wrong?

Anyone remember a shite 1-0 win v. Brighton away in 2006? McSheffrey got the winner, but was a dreadful game. Away stand uncovered miles away from the pitch, and it shat it down all game. Think Clayton Ince was in goal that day

A bit before my time, but I'm sure Best didn't debut until the following season. On a city associated link, I would have imagined Maurice Setters and Noel Cantwell would have been in that Utd side.

Cambridge away 1992 - Oggy saves Dion's last minute penalty (Dion playing for Cambs before moving to Man U) - Penalty was at the Cov end, Cov fans go mental all jumping in front of me and then stopped and their fans are celebrating, didn't see the incident but Lee Hurst got to the rebound first and put it in his own net
