Dream tie or not we are, according to the media, fans and general public, going to get marmalised down at the Emirates with verbiage abounding like "mis-match of the century", " Arsenal have easy ride", "Arsenal odds tumble" etc.

Blinking heavily through my Sky Blue glasses a good yardstick would be to go back to 26/09/12 when we were indeed stuffed 6-1 by Arsenal in the League Cup and compare the two City squads.

Of the 18 on show then only 6 remain (Murphy, J Clarke, Baker, Barton, Fleck and Moussa) arguably the best of that bunch at that time and probably playing even better within the current squad of today.

Stats for that match;

Gate: 58,351
Arsenal: Shots 20, 14 on target, possession 57%
CCFC: Shots 9, 2 on target, possession 43%

Positives were that we were only 1-0 down at HT (Giroud 39 mins) but collapsed during the second half (Alex Oxlade- chamberlain 57, Arshavin 63, Walcott 74 and 90 with Calum Ball scoring our only goal 78)

My only major positive today is that our current squad, playing ethos and never say die
spirit plus one or two half decent players of our own would surely not capitulate so easily as before and provide more resilience.

Will it be just a case of damage limitation or maybe a closer run thing than the perceived almighty massacre.

Score: Arsenal 3-1 City

I think that's about right, but you never know with this team, get a goal back and with the twelfth man, who knows its the beauty of the cup.

Any result in our favour or even just holding our own would be a massive achievement.

But, don't get too disillusioned if we get spanked.

I must admit I have a feeling we might get something from this game, there is no pressure, let everyone right us off before a ball is kicked, it's the magic of the Cup and the never say die attitude of Steven Pressley and the Players. If we can hold our own through the first 45 minutes I fancy us to do it.

@ Hobo.......Bang on mate. Strength in depth will be a very discerning factor, and I think we may struggle as the game goes on. Being a realist, I can't see any other than a 4-0 result....I do live in hope though

You don't beat teams like Arsenal by holding them for 45 minutes. It takes 90 plus the stoppage time.

The romance of the cup will always keep some embers of the dream glowing but in reality if we come away having conceded less than 5 it would probably be a good result - you never know, Wenger may give his 1st team a rest and us a hope but dont suppose he will risk the chance of having to have a replay.

Either way will be a good day out.

Agree. Expect the worse (3,4,5 nil loss) and everything else will be a bonus. Enjoy the day whatever happens and sing loud and proud. Really looking forward to it (again) hope I can get a ticket.

We were unfancied in 87 remember all the way through virtually every round and look what happened !
But we have to be realistic as Arsenal want to win a trophy this season, and could go for the double ?
We will have to play well straight from the kick off not just the second half as we have been doing recently, but the Cup is full of shocks,so we have to be positive !

Leaky roof? the weather has been Awful!

think the back four will be in for some hard fought lessons but will be pleased to keep it less than 3 tbh if we can get one or 2 it would be a bonus anything more than that it would be a blessing. A win a miracle!

bbr, in 87 we were a top flight team with some very good players regis, oggy, peake bennett and a top team spirit, which we have again , let's just have a go and enjoy it. pusb.

I think we may be in trouble up there. We concede way to many as is and put arsenals quality against us(even there fringe players) and we will be exposed. i would then say we will create a few chances but you need the ball for that and arsenal will probably have 60%+ possession and again its a worrying sign.

wait Leon scores one nil win arsenal have 112 shots 43 on target but Murphy is a hero. Also saved a peno.

Dreaming.......

I think we'll get hammered. We're a better team this season, but are worse defensively and are younger and more inexperienced.

I expect arsenal to play a strong core with a few inexperienced players. They take this cup seriously.

I must say Arsenal play a style of football I love. Even with their second string I don't give us much hope. They just ooze with class however this is the greatest competition in the world and there have been some crazy results, you only have to look at us at Sutton, Rochdale etc. There is always a chance, we have team that never gives up and we don't half score a lot of goals, let a few in as well. I hope its free flowing game with loads of action. I can't wait for the game to be honest, win, lose or draw.

I imagine this is exactly what was being written on Blackburn forums before their 5th round tie at the Emirates last year.

Granted they were a Championship team with a Championship squad, on that day Arsenal had 26 shots, 12 of which were on target and still failed to convert, losising 0-1.

A tactically astute set up along with a blinder from murf and a couple of goal line clearances, who knows....

When we won in 87 nobody really fancied us at all but we were a first division outfit.
Our defence worries me in this division so Arsenal give me nightmares. But football is like life you have to be positive and believe or if not your fucked !

I really can't see us getting anything from this tie apart from a great day out and brilliant atmosphere for those that manage to go. However, stranger things have happened in this competition, so you just never know!

I dont care what the result is, other than United in the league cup I have never been able to see premier league grounds because i was just too young for the premiership years.

(First game was home to sheffield wednesday in 2001 )

Personally hope they play a few of the first teamers, so I can say ive seen the likes of Ozil and Wilshere compete against the mighty sly blues

Dont expect a thing but just imagining us sneaking a win is making me shake

Well I hope you get a ticket and you have a great day out and enjoy the experience. It's what football is about and every once in a while a dream comes true.
