That second difficult album, sorry season for Lampard.
Who goes, who stays, who we buy will dictate our season.
Teams know how we play now and will set up accordingly. Expect a lot of defensive set ups against us and physical approaches home and away.
We need to cut out defensive mistakes and improve our set plays with more variety.
We need to avoid injury to our best players and have a bit of luck.
Likely we will finish between 3rd and 10th. If the stars align, automatics would not be completely out of the question.

How many goals did we concede down to individual errors would it have been half?

You are deluded my friend.
With parachute payments still in play it is not a level playing field and we cannot compete financially with the teams coming down.
There are exceptions of course and I hope I'm wrong, but in the end money talks.

I agree but the one thing we seem to have is a great spirit within the group and as we saw under Robins and in 1987 that sort of spirit can take u a long way and make a team punch above its weight. We are a good team anyway so I still think we could surprise many and get into the top 2. We are a big club now again.

We are already punching above our weight. Salary wise we aren't even top 10. To think we can get another 25-30 points we would need for Autos is massively optermistic.

I think we have a chance of autos next season, and anything below 6th would be disappointing. I think we keep most of the same team. The biggest risk of loss is MVE. Replacing him with like quality would be difficult. I can't see anyone offering enough for Wright that we would sell, and without the ankle injury, I think he will be good next year. Even if Wilson isin goal until Dovin is back, he shouldn't cost us points like Collins did. Kitching and Thomas should be better with more experience. Same with EMC. I don't see why Rudoni won't continue his improvement. Torp was really progressing under lampard, too. The reasons for recent slow starts aren't there this year. We are unlikely to have such bad luck with injuries. We nees a better left back and a decent back up right back, of course, but I expect that we should be able to compete for autos.

We aren't getting in the top 3 with Kitching and Thomas as CB's.

Difficult to make too bold a prediction given that we don't know what our squad will look like when the window closes (or anyone else's for that matter), but I still think that automatic is a big ask, 4th-5th would be our ceiling. Anything lower than 6th would be a failure.

I’d say with Thomas at CB it’s doable as long as his partner is an improvement on Kitching, as good as Kitching has been recently Bobby is and has been better

I can’t believe that some are advocating starting the season with Wilson in goal. It’s imperative that we get a new keeper as Dovin is injured.

Between 4th and 6th, with the aim of being in the top 6 all season.

It will be tough again, 3 parachute teams, none of which are likely to do a Luton, plus either parachute team Sheffield United or Sunderland who will probably sell an overhyped Bellingham and be able to spend big money to add to what they already have. Middlesbrough will spend again, Birmingham a bit of an unknown, Millwall should have some money in their pocket and could become a very effective bunch of shithouses... always like to wait until the window is done to see what has happened really but the aim is obviously play offs again, autos is a slightly delusional target although it would be nice if we were well placed to snatch one if the parachute teams happened to fuck it for whatever reason.

Aim is to do what Sunderland did this season - start well, cement play off position as soon as possible, and try and keep up with the relegated sides for as long as possible...

personally think we will be a way off autos, unless we really do have an impressive summer with 6/7 big signings

Agree, so many variables i wouldn’t be surprised if we improve the squad on paper and finish lower. Never know who might be sold to a last minute offer, who doesn’t perform due to off field issues, injuries, coaching staff moving on. That’s before you look at the opposition.

If Dovin was in goal for the semi final we might well have gone through. It’s absolutely essential we sign a number 1.

I'm going to go with a points expectation that shows progress...I'd be happy with 75-80. Ok with 70+. Anything else and I'm screaming at a wall (either in excitement or frustration).

Strange that it is one position where we will almost certainly be doing some business in the close season but there is a dearth of rumours.

Am I correct in thinking that if Sheff U win the playoffs, next season the only teams receiving parachute payments will be the relegated teams this year?
This year it's Leicester, Ipswich, Southampton
Last year 23/24 it was Luton, Burnley, Sheff U
The previous year 22/23 it was Leicester, Leeds, Southampton
That may help us.

Norwich and Watford were also receiving them in 23/24

yes, there are usually more than 3 teams receiving the payment in any one season.

Play offs should be the target. If you try to spend the money you'll need to to compete with the parachute recipients you risk ending up in the play offs anyway.

Playoffs is absolutely the target, but ultimately you have to match third on the day. I’d rather be Sunderland than Bristol going into them.

Opening goal at the CBS went through his hands so fully agree.

You can see the same happening with our player targets as the past 2 years- we get linked, court them and they like the feel of the club and then ultimately we get gazumpted and the go to Sheff Utd or Sunderland as they can pay more wages. Not sure how we avoid that.
