Not much football involved here but would be interested to hear if anyone had a similar experience to me? I was told that lots of people had been stopped at the gate and had their tickets taken from them as well.

Was not a fun day all in all.

Never heard of any.
Funny enough there were 3 City fans sitting in the next block to us that had brought them on the day with no bother what so ever.

Like I said in another thread there were at least 100 City fans near us we were sitting at the front next to the home fans in the terraces.
Shame we didn't score we would have seen the end erupt with joy.

Did you attempt to gain entry to the ground with the 'Home' ticket?
if not, why did they take the tickets from you, you had two tickets but you were not attempting to enter the ground at the time.

I have a major concern with this, you made no attempt to enter the ground. So if you were a neutral fan just taking in the game have the goons with the jackets the right to take your tickets?

Personally I believe you should raise this with the supporters trust and ECFC

I was offered an away ticket in the Pub but turned it down, didn' want to pay twice as I had a home ticket.

My son and myself stood on the away terrace. We wore no colours and had pre ordered the tickets using a friend’s West Country address. I had his address and post code off pat in case we were asked what it was when we collected the tickets. No one asked however. When on the terrace we kept quiet so as not to attract attention. We were amazed to see a fan dressed in a replica City shirt walking on to the home terrace. Obviously allowed in, no one taking any notice of him. Exeter fans generally were easy going and laid back. I don’t think they were bothered about City fans being among them.

I spoke to a load of Exeter fans before and after the game and they were all aware that there were a load of city fans amongst them and none seemed the slightest bit bothered. I never got a decent response from any of them about why they weren't sharing with the chiefs though.

I stood on the home terrace and kept myself to myself although did jump up when Ponticelli had that shot second half.
There was a guy and his Mrs next to me that were Cov too.Met a few lads in the pubs before that were standing in the home end and had seats in their seating too.

I will speak to the chair of the Exeter Trust. Will also contact the FSF. I don’t like how this has been handled at all. I don’t see how they can confiscate an away ticket from an away fan no matter what other ticket you had in your possession.

The only reason I can think of is the worry about the wear on the pitch.

It's a partly artificial pitch at Sandy Park, Exeter RFC's ground, which i think would mean Exeter City wouldn't be allowed to use it under FL rules which dictate the type of surface clubs are allowed to use.

Been under review again this season I think.

What are they doing with the two sides of the ground? Not much space on either side for a stand, particularly the railway side. You would think that whatever the development is it would have started after the last home game of last season. At the moment there is nothing to show on either side.

There is a thread on the forum of Football Ground Guide on this. Funnily enough, the old away end from Barnet, which was recently replaced by the bigger stand we were in back in October, will go behind the goal. Grandstand is being rebuild for 2 thirds of the length of the pitch.

Thanks. Would wonder whether they would get this done for the start of next season.

Would have thought by the time they take it down at Barnet, without demolishing it, transport it to Exeter and put it back up they'd be spending nearly as much as having a new stand.

Cheers CJ. TBH none of them seemed like they knew what they were doing. And the police didn’t care at all. Just some higher power on the radio beamed down and decreed some made up law.

Maybe they knew you were planning to use the word 'inchoate' in a blog for football fans, and therefore you deserved to be kicked out.

At least the weekend wasn't all lost, you've taught me a new word. Thanks.

My pleasure

It's relevant he writes a blog to me too. Obviously going to do anything to be there.

The stand in question is identical to the Barnet home end i.e. it looks like a metal bus shelter

What were you thinking taking the ticket in for a refund? Way too honest!

No idea why if you had an away ticket they took that as well, hopefully they will be able to answer that for you!

Maybe they took umbrage that he'd been intending to go into the home end and decided that on the basis that'd he'd intended to break the rules, they were entitled not to admit him. Seems ridiculous to me, but maybe that's their thinking.

Were the stewards going through the queue?

Odd they just approached you and asked to see your ticket/tickets?

Sorry you had such an awful day. However, I genuinely LOLd at:

'I’m going to have to ask you to leave the premises.” Though he thought it sounded fancy to shift this into the future tense, this was definitely happening right then, and me asking, “Well when are you going to do it?” definitely didn’t soften him up.

They had seen me collecting my ticket at the away end, and had followed me when I walked around to the home end. Presumably mystified as to why I was then in another ticket queue. That was when they started asking me questions.

Somewhere between the waitress and her table.
Before the law sits a gatekeeper. To this gatekeeper comes a man from Margate who asks to gain entry into the law. But the gatekeeper says that he cannot grant him entry at the moment. The man thinks about it and then asks if he will be allowed to come in later on. “It is possible,” says the gatekeeper, “but not now.”

You could have had a lot of fun with K.

An "ex pat" I know living in South Devon bought about 12 tickets for the home end.

The club never raised an eyebrow why there was sudden interest from people in this one house for a game that the away end was sold out for.
