He played for Exeter in a PSF last night and reports are he played well. He is currently on trial at Exeter. The risk is his hamstring injury. He hasn’t played hardly at all for the last 2 years. Exeter have no real budget this season so they may have to take a risk on him and hope the hamstring holds out. Of course, if Ollie Watkins is sold for 25M and Exeter get their cut of about 4M they may decide to by someone else.Lewis Page let go by Charlton, offered pay as you play at Plymouth, but Exeter are sniffing around to. Maybe it’s just a lazy assertion on my part because of his image and the way he sometimes sulked in games but if there was any attitude problems that may have affected the wider squad then perhaps we were just happy to get him out the door quick and any financial hit was deemed worth it for the squad harmony.I can’t believe we let JCH go to Bristol for nothing and then didn’t include any sell on clause? Why is it a great move? Its sideways for a player that scored a decent amount in L1 last season, club of equivalent size to Bristol. On paper it’s good for him...a perceived step up. I suspect JCH will think he’ll have no problem filling Toney’s boots.They were challenging for the play offs due in no small part to the goals of Toney who they're about to sell, as I said, big boots for JCH to fill
Falling out with a coach and being held in high regard by your team mates aren’t mutually exclusive though. He wasn’t making the team in the build up to his departure which I’m sure was extremely frustrating for a player who is a consummate professional and used to being the leader on the pitch and in the changing room. MR nipping that conflict in the bud by seeing Doyle still needed to play is still ‘football reasons’ and isn’t a slight on anyone.There was a lot of bullshit posted about Doyle suddenly turning into a disruptive force when he left. MR let him go for footballing reasons, and despite my reservations at the time was proved absolutely right to do so. Whenever I have heard any of his ex team mates talk about him it is with respect and affection. Mind you I've never heard Robert Page talk about him

He might still have been able to run all day but his legs were gone in terms of any acceleration and it was impacting his performance all season, he was giving himself 5 yards head start on players to compensate and getting caught out because of it. Starting with him in L1 was one of the few times that MR didn’t act as ruthlessly as he normally does but that’s testament to the career Doyle has had and the respect that deserves that he gave him one more shot at L1.
It will be interesting to see how he transitions to coaching. Can envision a Roy Keane style situation where he gets too annoyed or frustrated that players don’t reach his own personal standards which becomes hard when you can no longer lead by example on the pitch.
