I don't agree with booing either, but it does seem like a lot of our fans suddenly have short memories. He should have been dropped countless times, which was why a lot of fans were sharing their frustrations.

Reading a lot of Norwich fans reactions they seem to think they have a great deal, and an ideal replacement in his brother who many believe is actually a better prospect. I've been hearing all the things that I and many others noticed at the time with him from Norwich fans. I'm afraid I politely disagree with you when you say you felt he gave his all. I felt he did the exact opposite in most games he played.

He did have some woeful games for us that season but he was 2nd highest scorer and highest for assists if I remember correctly. It's not people on here discussing the merits of a player I disagree with, we all see different things in players, it was the abuse he got on social media. Grown adults giving abuse to this kid in his first professional season to the point where he had to close his account is disgraceful and no wonder his confidence was shot by the end of the season.

I don't agree with the abuse either, it isn't helpful. At the end of the day though, he wasn't playing badly because of the abuse. He should have been dropped so many times and was really terrible in so many games, yet TM insisted on playing him. You can argue that the manager has to do better because it was painfully obvious to me he should have been nowhere near the starting XI on so many occasions.

He played in all but one of our defeats, and scored nearly all of his goals over three games only. The thing is, and what frustrates me the most, is that at the end of the season when I was busy arguing with a lot of people about him, I asked people to name 5 good games he had for us that season, some managed to just about do it, but not a single person got anywhere near 10 performances where he came away with any credit.

No doubt a player with a lot of potential, but I don't feel sorry for him one bit. He has to work harder. I do strongly believe we would have finished higher in the table that season had he not been in the team after Christmas.

Would we have been in the position we were in before Christmas without him though? Who would you have put in instead?

His penalty miss at home to Colchester said a lot about his attitude in the latter part of the system. He did have a few flashes of brilliance, but way too inconsistent.

Yes, I believe we would have been. The problem was we were trying to accommodate too much luxury. Admittedly it was harder when Maddison got injured, but we had so much quality and balance in that team and it was just misused. Murphy was class on his day, but it was consistently the case that he was not good. The chemistry was just lost the more he played. Particularly after Christmas he should have been dropped. He was by far the weakest link in a de-railing team.

In the latter part of the season we had Rose, Cole, and should have had O'Brien (the biggest casualty to that season IMO). Any of them should have been picked in front of him. In fact, even academy players deserved a go instead. As soon as he was finally dropped the results picked up and we finished agonisingly close to the playoffs. Those games where we dropped points and it was like playing with 10 men were left to dwell on.

I'm not saying I didn't enjoy him playing when he was up for it, and I'm not only blaming him for a season going down the toilet, but we would have been much better off without him after christmas certainly, and could have survived without him before it. The fact some people act as if he was like Ronaldo for 46 games is really agonising to digest at times (not saying you've saying that).

Rose and cole over Murphy? Really? Ones being signed for 12m and the other two play for clubs not worth 12m put together

Ex-City loanee (and best keeper.... ever!) Ryan Allsopp has joined Blackpool.

His career has not gone the direction I thought it would :emoji_thinking:

Murphy was the best talent we've had at the club for a long time.

Yes, I would.

Both made a significantly higher contribution to the team post christmas.

The money also means nothing. Look at the Norwich fans, they're rubbing their hands right now...

Yes, you're probably right. That's why it's even more frustrating that he was a burden more often than not.

Does anyone know if we had a sell on clause on Jacob Murphy? Classic fucking SISU if we didn't. Clubs a shambles.

Cole contributed nothing other than a free kick against Barnsley. Rose wasn't as good as Murphy hence why he was released and Murphy is a premiership footballer. You didn't like Murphy we all get it, but to say them 2 contributed more is simply lying

No it isn't a lie. Rose and Cole were a positive impact in the team more often than Murphy was in the latter part of the season.

Murphy is also not good enough to consistantly play in the Premier League.

People just blindly defend him when it is pretty clear all they watched was the Gillingham highlights. It is really embarassing.

I haven't missed a home game in 10 years thanks. I also went to most away that year. But yeah all I've seen is the highlights. No really need to call me embarrassing and have a dig. I normally agree with you actually especially about Mowbray. Guessing Newcastle must have just watched the highlights too or they'd have signed rose and Cole instead

That's a bit odd though, if you went to all the games, did his many awful performances pass you by?

I'm not having a go, and I'm not suggesting for one minute Cole and Rose are better players (they are not). I'm just saying after Christmas their contribution was infinitely better than Murphy's was, which is extremely concerning for a player that had as much ability as he did.

If Newcastle paid that much for him I dare say they either have silly money to spend, or think his potential is worth the gamble.

Good deal for Leeds, he played a decent number of games for Everton's first team last year.

He wasn't as limited here as people think. He just fucked up.

That said, he is certainly splashing the cash at Blackburn. Anything other than auto promotion is probably a failure if you compare what they've spent to other teams.

Transfermarkt have his value at £850k

40 games 9 goals 10 assists 15/16 League 1
37 games 8 goals 8 assists 16/17 Championship

That's pretty decent progression though.
