He's a decent coach but it's been a dreadful season for them and they'll still be lucky to stay up.
The quality of teams at the bottom of Serie A is pretty dreadful though; off to watch Verona v Milan tomorrow.

My sister lives out near Bari. I went over to visit a few years back and checked out potential fixtures nearby. I was surprised to see just how far Bari have slipped down the leagues.

Went to Bologna v Sampdoria last month. Bologna actually a decent side but Samp were pretty atrocious. Interesting trying to compare the general standard to English football

Yes, I think he was out for 18 months. I know Sunderland gave him a new contract (when Lee Johnson was manager) even though he was injured, not sure when it expires though.

Have a look at where Palermo and Catania are now! I went to watch them play each other when they were in Serie A - it has to be up there with the fiercest rivalries in football.

I live not too far away from Virtus Verona's ground and they're in Serie C - the standard is a lot lower than League 1. Based on their 'ground' i'd always assumed they were non-league.

Just googled…as coincidence would have it Palermo beat Bari 0-2 in their last fixture!
Bari top of Serie C, Group C.
Is there a playoff to get into Serie B or something?
Enjoy the game! Milan have it all to play for!

You would be amazed checking the third and fourth tier of both Italy and Spain respectively. There's some pretty big names in there.

Those leagues are also like the abyss, and can be extremely difficult to get out off as they are broken into a large set of conference leagues with very few of even the best teams getting promoted.

I want to travel and watch Verona one day. Fiorentina too

I read a thread on twitter about Palermo and the Serie C playoffs. I had a migraine developing after reading how they actually work!

Deportivo La Coruna are in one of the Spanish third divisions (I think there are four). They had to play Celta Vigo B team a while back (local rivals) and got beat. Ouch.

Look at the league tables. Basically every team is in contention to go up or down!

I was at Villa Park to enjoy Villa getting beat by Deportivo 2-1 in one of the European cup competitions back in the 90s. Admittedly, the away end had more English fans than Spanish but seeing Leeds, Forest and several other clubs represented all supporting Depo was hilarious. And at halftime, the Spanish fans had smuggled in some wine skins (skin bags with wine (or "something" alcoholic) in them and were passing them around everyone in the away end, Spanish and English all got to enjoy the evening

But to see them in the newly established Primera RFEF league (3rd Division) is a sad show. They're now playing the likes of Bilbao, Valladolid and Celta Vigo's B teams.

Is there anyone on this forum out in Genoa? I was there for both derby games this season.

Despite my fondness for Ostigard, I was rooting for Sampdoria who have somewhat become my adopted Italian team.

The other half has a lot of family in Sicily, used to attend this fixture regularly and have to agree, had to be one of the most hostile matches to attend before Catania’s expulsion.

I watched them play Mallorca in the wretched Segunda B playoffs about three years ago. It is so hard to get out of those divisions. Mallorca were losing 2-0 after the first leg of the (two leg) final. Came back to the island and did them 3-0 at home to get promoted. Deportivo have been in the abyss since, although they do have a shot at the playoffs again this year.

There is Numancia, Racing Santander, Murcia, Recrativo Huelva, Hercules, Cordoba - and that is just off the top of my head - lingering in the 3rd and 4th tier. So many conferences essentially and the quality is really poor. Barely conference standard I would say.

I’d like to think he could rejuvenate his career with us and under MR’s tutelage. But, equally, it’s not gone right for him for a reason.

If we got him on criminally good terms, I think he’d be a good squad addition. I sincerely believe had he stayed, he’d have thrived in the ‘box’ formation. But that’s all academic now.

Unfortunately for him they lost this game 2-0 and didn’t make the play offs. His former teammate and ex CCFC U23 Jordan Young scored both goals for Chippenham!
