It's how the money has been invested not the lack of investment. I'd be frustrated as a fan if £685m had been pissed up the wall on 8 managers, 56 players and a few Directors of Football to assemble a squad that is closer to relegation than Europe and a club that is now in bother with FFP.

I think it was a couple of times. They beat Wimbledon 3-2 after losing 2-0 one season & if we'd have beaten them in 98 they would have been relegated.All things considered, their fans have remained loyal - they’ve not had a sniff of success in years yet still pull in better crowds than the likes of Chelsea or Man City would if their form was similarly indifferent year after year. That said, Everton have flirted with relegation before, I remember in the 90’s they had to get a result on the last day of the season to avoid relegation? Or could be my memory going AWOL.
We had years of abject failure in the Premiership followed by troubles on and off the pitch over the past years as we've slid down the leagues, but I wouldn't swap what we've had with winning the checkatrade, two promotions and the chance we have now versus Premiership mediocrity that they've endured. Sure it's nice to see great players in your side or competing with the best of the best, but our journey has been more fun imo.

Also can't stand much of the Premiership insular bollocks and games being moved any day any time.I want us playing at as high a level as we possibly can, like any fan of any club does. I would happily trade the last 20 years, or even just the last 4, for guaranteed top flight status.

If we were assured top flight survival we’d still win a fair share of games, draw a higher profile, keep our top prospects for longer, sort out our finances and test ourselves against the best sides in the country. One bad season in the second tier and we’re back into real obscurity
But you're working on the assumption of PL survival, which we wouldn't have.
It'd be like saying I'd be happy to be relegated every so often if we were guaranteed to come straight back up.
I loved the PL years but there were times when it's difficult when you're losing more often than winning. Having a feeling of confidence going into games is great.
Obviously in an ideal world we'd be doing that in the top league but we're a multi-billion dollar owner away from that.
Main reason to want to get promoted is the money, cos the football is likely to be much less enjoyable when we're there.
I don't really think it was, the seasons of successive relegation battles were depressing as they would be at a lower level, a couple of seasons running we won 1 game before December. Who really enjoyed that?I would far rather have had Everton's last 20 years than ours. Watching Cov in the top league was far better than in lower leagues

Fair enough we are all different. I found watching us playing top tier football way more exciting. Occasionally beating teams Man U or Liverpool was far more of a high for me than beating lower league teams.
