I hope the club and Everton are working on a tribute following the tragic events on Merseyside today

Does anyone know any details of the Stratford friendly last Sat?? Line ups, scorers etc?

Cursory glance says it was a 3-3 draw.

Presume we'll have something for Keaton too or will that be first home league match do you think?

Would definitely be a nice gesture after today's events, but also feel odd to do something when one of our own tragically taken and also not yet recognised.

I think the club said they are remembering Keaton tonight owing to the fact his funeral takes place today

I would imagine as the incident happened so close to home Everton will at a minimum, be wearing black armbands tonight

Going to do a one minute silence before the game tonight, in memory of the young lad who was killled on Radford Road.

Think it is his funeral today at Coventry Cathedral. Tragic waste of a young life.

Apologies to correct you, but I heard it's a 1 minute applause on the radio this morning, with all due respect.

i don't get this 1 minute applause thing
The poor kid has been killed as have the people in Southport, what is there to applaud
Why cant we show some bloody respect and have 1 minute silence

Maybe in conjunction with his family a minutes applause was decided as the most fitting tribute. If you are going to the game this evening you can observe a minutes silence if it offends your sensibilties?

Which ever it is, let's hope it's respected.

Would assume the club have spoken to the family who wanted to celebrate his life with an applause. If that's the case then so be it.

People will deal with things differently, you can still bow your head and reflect on things. To be honest I usually do a mixture of both anyway.

i get what you're saying Nick and i always bow my head in respectful silence but how can you respect it if you making the noise of clapping its the easy way out for people who just cant keep still and silent for one minute. Its not that much to ask is it
I think this clapping nonsense all started because a few morons wouldn't keep quiet during the minutes silence and it morphed into a minutes applause
I'm sure they will be doing this on remembrance Sunday very soon (not)
Sorry for the rant but it makes me so cross the lack of respect for the dead

Sadly I suspect the reason we've largely moved from silences to applause is because people can't be trusted to shout during a silence.

I can see a case for both, depending upon the circumstances. Applause is more of a celebration of someone's life, and silence is more of a sombre reflection/respect.

Given today is to observe the passing of someone so young and sudden, silence just sounds intuitively more appropriate. But as has been said, there is definitely a hesitance to conduct a silence for any circumstance because of potential unruly behaviour.

Unless the family have been asked if they have a preference, if so then the whole thing is moot as the family's wishes supersedes everything else, in my view.

The issue at football is timing, especially before kick off.

Almost impossible to hold a silence, not only because of dickheads, but some still finding their seat and lots of noise on the concourse beneath. Sometimes people don't even know what it is for or that it's being held. That antagonises a few, not usually related, but ones looking for trouble already and want to show everyone around them that they are the most respectful by offering to fight anyone who sneezes. It's not for everyone, but I think applause is safer 100% of the time.

i agree with what you have said but can someone tell me what there is to applaud about a 12 year old boy getting mowed down by some twat in a stolen car before he's even had a chance at life or those poor kids killed in Southport
we should show proper respect and not take the cop out situation because of a small minority of idiots

There isn't anything to applaud in his death, presumably his family have asked for applause to celebrate the life he did have.

Also, as they are likely to be there, imagine how upset they would feel if someone did spoil it, which after a few beers, a late entry or noise downstairs could easily spill into something never meant. I do get what you're saying, but I just think it's the right way to go so people can show respect and hopefully no outrage.

That's the thing, I don't know the family so could be wrong but from some of the stuff I've seen has been more of a celebration of his life than a mourning of the loss of it.

There was applause at the Leamington friendly too and his family were there on the pitch at the start of the match for that.

This was no doubt organised before the Southport Tragedy. Also, he was a big City fan, so applause is celebrating his life, where a minute's silence would be too painful for them maybe.

It's more an applause in celebration of someone's life, some people prefer that and even have "happy" funerals so do we know what the family have asked for?
