As some on here know, I’m involved in running a junior chess club in Coventry which has been going for a long time and which has produced some brilliant young players including plenty who have represented England in their age groups.

What I and a good friend are planning to do is host a prestigious week long international tournament in the summer of 2027, for which we have already approached and provisionally secured a venue in the form of Coventry Cathedral. The idea will be for games to be played in the central nave, with outdoor events in the ruins in the evenings, and for some of the strongest national and European players to enter alongside amateur club players. Our junior club members would take part free of charge.

Allowing for venue hire and a prize fund to attract such players we can meet approximately 60% of the costs from entry fees, but need to raise the remainder (around £15-20,000) from either individual or corporate sponsorship to make the event viable. So…if you or your business is interested in supporting us in putting the city on the international chess map, get in touch by DM! If the inaugural event succeeds, we would aim for it to be an annual tournament.

Immediate thought would be Coventry University. Beyond that, there are a few tech firms in Leamington who may have the capital to support.

Don't mind a game of chess, but feels like I'm playing GM's at 500 level on Chess.com. Any sites which you can recommend are better than this?

Chess.com has bots you can play aimed at all playing strengths, so I’d start there.
