Here at the Rialto, we held an evening with Huckerby, Whelan and Hedman back in 2020 (Before the world went crazy!)

We've now been able to plan and announce another evening similar, this time with Dion Dublin, Richard Shaw and Paul Williams - hosted by former City player Andy Blair.

Tickets are now on sale - we've currently sold over 60% of the tickets - you can get them via www.rialtoreborn.co.uk

Other entities on the night include a Comedian and a Silent Auction with lots of bespoke memorabilia on sale!

We also have our 2022 event confirmed for May... Which will be announced in due course but its a huge one!

Dublin was adamant he didn’t want to leave. Said he had an offer of a 4 year contract and wanted to sign. Said Richardson wanted him gone cos we needed the money.
Willow said he had the best days of his life here, and seemed to genuinely mean it.
All spoke highly of the club,Strachan, trainers ,staff and fellow players ,just as you would expect.
Never heard a good word about Richardson .

Oh and all said Telfer was a terrible wind up merchant, and got Whealan in all sorts of sh** .
Loved him,(Wheelan) but said once he had a drink he was a gullible idiot.

That is interesting, as I’m pretty sure he signed a new 5yr contract with us a few weeks before he joined Villa? there was a clause added to the contract, giving any team bidding £5M permission to speak to him.

Really sad that Dion isn't universally revered due to the way Richardson treated him. One of our greatest ever players & was treated like shit, touted around to our relegation rivals & I'd query who the we is in we needed the money too...

With Richardson pedalling the story about him refusing to play etc. it was Dion himself who took the blame.

There are two sides to every story of course. But I know who I would believe out of Dublin or Richardson.
Having said that, neither of them would tell the whole truth if it made them look bad.

Yeah. Hated the way Dublin left at the time, but time is a great healer and all that.

Dion may not have wanted to go but all the gossip at the time was that he was talking Boateng into joining Villa too. Didn't sit well with me then.

Just found this snippet from the Daily Record at the time.

"Dublin stalled over a new deal before signing an improved contract during the close season and Coventry chairman Bryan Richardson revealed it was a term in his agreement which led to his pending departure.

Richardson, who claims a replacement for Dublin is already lined up, said: "We've always been reluctant to sell Dion Dublin but he had a clause in his contract which said if we received an offer in excess of pounds 5million, we were duty bound to give him the right to talk to that club.

"We have to be clear about obligations to the club and that is if you sell somebody such as Dion Dublin you have to bring a player in who is available, who you can afford, and that you really think is the one that you want.

"In this particular case we think we've achieved those three items with one player and certainly it is our intention to bring that player to a conclusion within the next few days.

"They contacted us last week to ask if we were prepared to sell him, and we have been negotiating hard with them over the last few days. The situation is now outside of our control - it is down to Dion and his advisers and Blackburn Rovers to work out a package which is acceptable. "

Yeah, utter horseshit from Richardson. He'd already agreed a deal with Blackburn behind Dublin's back then got his nose out of joint when Dion didn't want to go.

Actually there's 3 sides to EVERY story, his, his (or hers), and THE TRUTH.

It was a really good night, had never been to the Rialto before but was very impressed with the venue and the way it was organised. Will definitely go again
They all spoke very highly of the club, which was great to hear. All had interesting stories about how they ended up at CCFC, seems Richard Shaw had a particularly tough childhood (not that he was moaning about it) but the thing that came through was their determination to make it and thier belief in themselves.
Telfer didn't come out of it very well, think it was Dublin who said that he used to wind Whelan up and goad him into doing stupid things knowing full well that Whelan would never back down once he had said he was going to do something (foot through plate glass window). Reckoned a decent mate would not have done that.

To be fair I doubt a player would agree to do a City Legends night in the city if they thought the club was shit and they hated the club! Don't think the promoter would have them on the bill if they weren't going to be positive on the whole. Gotta play to the audience.

Which is true, but Dublin especially is a genuine class act.
