It's weird. We have some great songwriters and some great performers in this country but always end up with something appalling as our entry. At least some of the other countries go all out for it with something bizarre.

Eurovision peaked with Lordi.

They have a panel vote from 43 countries, then a public vote.

The corrupt bastards in the panel vote were the complete polar opposite of the public one.

I fucking hate Sweden. I was over there (I think 2012) when they won it and we came last (Blue were doing it) and it was an embarrassment. I was at a 'eurovision party' and they couldn't hack it when I said it was political. Always hated it since. Bullied us for being shit too. A whole room of Swedes vs ESB1.

Look tonight. Sweden 2nd in the panel voted and 5th last on the public one.

Load of shit. No way we were that bad either!

I think Blue were one of our few relative successes when they did it, possibly even top ten or not far off. Should just follow that and get all these pop groups who will never give up on there. I'm almost amazed we don't just send Steps every year.

you need to have a good word with yourself. I hope this is some misplaced attempt at humour. I can forgive your right wing politics but this is beyond the pale.

What are you talking about?

You haven't lived until you've been in Sweden during Eurovision. Honestly it was horrendous and they take it really seriously. It's actually really eye opening.

Tonight was just another replica script. Sweden were terrible but still came second on the panel vote. It's a farce. The bravery of the UK singer given the protest was commendable yet she came second last.

I honestly don't understand what you're getting at. The mention of my politics is a bit strange as well. Guessing you had a good night at the game, but leave it out...

Oh Clint, I hope you had a good night. It certainly looks like the hooligan version of you came out for a visit at 02.44!

Seriously, you have no idea how seriously they take this shit though. I could compare that one patricular party to us lot watching a world cup match with it on a knife edge. 'Melodifestivalen' as they call it over there is like a cult.

I was joking and thought you were but it did cross my mind that you actually took this nonsense seriously! Can't believe they do!

Worst thing that can happen in Eurovision is that you win and host it

Any singing contest that gives me the chance to vote for the winner has no credibility. Get rid of the public vote so it’s only someone that actually knows what they’re talking about decides who wins and ban the dickheads in the crowd that dress up like chickens. If they did those two things I’d watch it for more than 5 minutes.

There is a vaguely seriously aspect here. The uk is a major funded if this absolute nonsense - given the anti Europe bilge from pipsqueak neighbours we should pull the plug

The thing is, the panel on each country only vote politically anyway (hence Sweden coming in second although they were awful). That can't be the basis of a good vote.

We come bottomish every year and we aren't usually all that bad either. Happened way before Brexit anyway (before someone says it). Should have pulled the plug a while ago.

Agreed.

Voting politically for something that is awful should always be strongly condemned.
