I'll never be able to fully watch it without getting pissed off at Sweden. I ended up at a party over there a few years ago when they won it. They take it overly serious and are generally quite arrogant about it.

The UK always finish near the bottom regardless of performance and Sweden always finish near the top regardless of theirs.

The massive gap between the jury votes and the public tell you all you need to know. I think there is desperate need to change the system!

I’m dating a Dutch girl and she was going mental that they won it, had videos of her family celebrating back home and everything, and trying to rub it in that we came last. Genuinely couldn’t understand why I didn’t give a shit.

Don’t think the sentiment towards the UK is negative at all, but I guess it’s a good opportunity for a rant about Eastern Europeans ffs.

How is Eurovision an accurate representation of attitudes towards certain countries?!

Glad you found a nice Dutchy to date mate.

My missus being Slovak said that back home and in the Czech Republic that no one really cares about it. Other countries are different though.

As I said earlier on, Sweden treat it like the world cup final. Mental.

My missus is Eastern European (As much as she tries to argue it's Central Europe despite being from 30 miles to the Ukranian border). I'm not in the process of taking her to Dover.

I think Eurovision sums it up well. There's definitely a negative sentiment towards us, from people living here to people in their own nations. It isn't everyone, but to say it isn't there is a bit silly I think.

I'm certainly not having a rant about immigrants, I've always said there's a lot of positives to take from it. I do however agree with the poster that said a lot of people moan about us as a country but come and live here.

Oddly a Romanian woman cut my hair the other day, she was absolutely lovely, but was slagging the UK off to me the entire time.

One way of having a fair, non-political vote would be to just give each entry a number. No country mentioned. Don't know how it could be implemented, but that's the only way to stop the voting cheats. (Personally, I just see it as one big giggle! Also pissed off that Ireland never made the finals!)

I wasn’t on about you and I know your partner is from Eastern Europe. There’s a lot of respect for the UK across Europe, but If you want to base people’s attitudes upon fucking Eurovision then go ahead.

Ok, so why do we finish well below where our given song should every year?

Guess it's just shit luck right? It must be something, because there was no way we should have been bottom last night.

The fact that every year several songs have been no.1s in Europe for months prior to the contest renders it a load of old cock. The best songs never win.

The UK entry was out of tune and camper than Julian Clary in a tent, so I didn't see any injustice there.

Madonna was so bad it was good. Like your granny drunk at karaoke.

Why do we expect to succeed internationally if we choose people who've already failed domestically?

I'm not all that sure our songs finish much lower than they deserve, we tend to send over the kind of soppy Westlife knock-off that gives Simon Cowell a raging erection but the public don't seem to give a shit about any more.

Cobblers. I actually used to enjoy this years ago with the wife, but haven't watched since Wogan also realised it was pointless.
Don't want to go political but finishing last with 3 points from the "public" of Europe just about sums up the attitude the EU has for the British. It's been this way ever since they got the public involved, just to make some dosh from phone votes.
And this is all we can muster from viewers who watch Eurovision...perhaps the most liberal icon of diversity and inclusion that goes to millions upon millions of people across Europe. If they hate us, what do the rest of the EU think. Even the Germans got zero from the public, which shows in what high regard everyone thinks of them too.
And people who voted leave are all supposed to be racist? I think this says plenty about the hatred there is for us, to be honest mate.
Maybe the EU ought to have a Brixit vote themselves...so see if they WANT us as part of the clan. Would be interesting to see the percentage of NO votes for that one.

On the competiton itself, without reform it will remain out of reach. If there are people who enjoy it with the knowledge that we'll never compete unless it returns to jury only voting, good luck to them.

Is it only over here that Eurovision has seemingly become the preserve of the gay male, or is that prevalent across the whole continent and beyond? It's clearly why Australia are in in, for example, but i can't see all the former Soviet states jumping on the gay bandwagon, so we wouldn't even be guaranteed widespread popularity if we went totally for the gay vote.

Don't expect it to be popular even if we went down the weird/camp route, but at least we'd get to have a laugh at us doing it. But whoever was doing it would have to know that was why we'd chosen them so they didn't take themselves so seriously.

On which note I'd like to put forward James Blunt - he's great at self-deprecation. Get him to do 'My Triangle'! And one year Ireland HAVE to sing "My Lovely Horse"

We did well when Jonathan King was in charge of selecting it.

Then he got done for sex offences.
