It's not the case all year round, Shmmeee. For people who have a decent job, but are now on statutory sick pay due to this outbreak?

They are talking about paying people £95 a week aren't they?

Yes, SSP is £94 per week I have no idea how people including myself will survive on that, its ok having a mortgage holiday for three months but still have to pay council tax, gas, electric etc.

Not particularly good for us this. Current thinking is that we'll be hitting the worst of this around May time, I don't see it being possible to finish the season by the end of June which would mean us entering null and void territory.

End of june is a preference, but not cast in stone at this stage

Unfortunaly part of it looks like it is cast in stone - The very fact that they they have supplied a date 30th June it seems they have got together and all worked out to the very day the final possble period that it seems that all our league can finish in time for next season. All the english leagues it reports are in agreement - Statement from UEFA below

Surely this just means they’ll have to have decided the result by then, not that the league will have played all its games?

Europe was committed to getting brexit done by numerous agreed dates. End up with numerous extensions. If push comes to shove they'll revise the date to be later on I'm sure.

The behind closed doors concept is gathering pace. It does seem to be the only way to get things done within the time frame.

1. It would work.

2. It should be safe to do so

3. If they can show games on TV, it will give the British public a tremendous boost

I think it being free with a contribution option would be good, because if people wanted to put money into the club they could and if people can't afford it for no reason of there own then they can still watch the game

The idea of showing the game is to alleviate the financial problem with playing behind closed doors.

Some will have no money at all.

If you had a decent job and are now on £95 a week, or getting absolutely nothing, you will have zero in terms of disposable income.

but again, if you got made redundant or lost income in normal circumstances - you couldn’t see the game.

The EFL have released a statement saying the goal is to complete the season: EFL statement: Board update on coronavirus

The primary objective, in order to protect competition integrity, is to deliver a successful conclusion to the 2019/20 season, subject to the over-riding priority around health and well-being. Plans continue to be developed on the agreed principle that it is in the best interests of the EFL and Clubs to complete the current season at the appropriate time.

The EFL is continuing regular dialogue with the Government and relevant health authorities and, as and when more information is known regarding the scale and extent of the coronavirus outbreak in this country, a decision will be taken on the resumption of the League’s fixtures.

Conversations will continue with the EFL’s counterparts at the FA, the Premier League, the PFA and the LMA to ensure football achieves a joined-up and collaborative approach.

FINANCIAL SUPPORT

As part of the League’s continued contingency planning, the Board heard the comments and observations from EFL Clubs, before discussing a number of issues including the current financial position and implications, insurance, regulatory matters and broadcasting arrangements.

Discussions centred on financial relief for Clubs in the short term and while there is no one single solution, measures are to be put in place to immediately assist with cash flow via a £50million short-term relief package.

This fund consists of the remaining Basic Award payments being advanced to Clubs immediately, with the remainder made up through interest-free loan facility available to Clubs, calculated in line with the EFL’s Article of Associations.

The cash injection is included as part of a series of measures, that includes potential Government support to help Clubs and their associated businesses through this period of uncertainty. The EFL welcomes last night’s announcement made by the Chancellor of the Exchequer, and is continuing discussions to understand how our Clubs can access the funding made available to support businesses.

In addition, we will continue our discussions with our football partners to determine how we can all get through this difficult, challenging and unprecedented situation.

CONTINGENCY PLANNING

The EFL, through a dedicated taskforce, continues to review the threat posed by the coronavirus pandemic, and its impact on our Clubs and competitions.

Alongside ensuring the 2019/20 season reaches a successful conclusion, protecting the EFL and its Clubs is a key priority for the EFL Board, who have today agreed on the following objectives to support future decision-making:

  • Ensure the health and well-being of our Clubs’ employees, supporters and communities
  • Make a positive contribution to the UK’s efforts to tackle coronavirus
  • Protect the EFL’s financial model and Club finances
  • Enable the EFL to continue to function as a business
  • Deliver a successful conclusion to the 2019/20 season

Point was that organisations want to be seem to be decisive and dynamic by setting arbitrary deadlines but when it comes down to it they climb down and kick the can along the road. This situation will be no different IMO.

Difference is of course player contracts ending usually at the end of June and how that could impact squads, but everyone will be in the same boat. The FA etc would have the right to not register players with a new club until the season is finished, preventing players moving to other clubs during that period. I'm sure clubs and players could agree to extend contracts for a short term in the interim seeing as they couldn't move anyway.

This is not normal circumstances.

Many people are being made redundant temporarily and will get their jobs back once this all blows over. Those exact circumstances on 5Live yesterday.

One production company, for instance, said he had 30 workers. The newest employee he had, had been there 11 years. He said he would have to temporarily make them redundant and then re-employ them after the crisis is over. He wants the employees.

Thta is anything but the norm. It is a completely different situation, this, what we have right now.

There is if you disregard the points on the graph that represent goals scored in the cups and against team from lower divisions starting with letters from the second half of the alphabet!

Those were the days when you had real players to lambast!
