Even if the whole of the UK boycott, there is a huge market in America, Africa and East Asia for them to tap into. No doubt they’d get at least 20m viewers every game,

The proposal is for 20 teams with 12 agreed already. Having seen the reaction of all the clubs except the 12 of condemnation of the league, which other clubs would be prepared to join the league either through invite or qualification? I think they would struggle to fill the remaining places.
The biggest factor in this not happening will be the current players. If the top players refuse to play in it or new players refuse to sign for any of these teams, where will they go then?

I'm not giving him too much credit as he's moaning about the protests. If he's that unhappy he's one of the few people in a position to do something about it.

Not sure how much the players can do other than speaking out about it. They & the coaching staff etc weren't even consulted on it so whilst protests absolutely should happen I'm not sure shouting abuse at the team bus is the way to go.

The players should be made aware that sticking with their clubs and joining in this league will result in them being pariahs.

I'm sure they're aware but they're all under contract to clubs who couldn't give a flying fuck. Be interesting to see if the PFA try to see what legally they can do to get players out of contracts, that would be a game changer.

Wondered that too. Liverpool would crap themselves if that took off there. Their fans do seem the sort to unite behind a cause.

Kick the big 'six' out reform them back into the bottom of English leagues as Phoenix clubs and let FSG, glazers, levy and Abramovich play glorified friendlies in Asia between themselves every season

Gonna be hilarious hearing about how spurs and arsenals entire season is finished after 4 weeks because they lose the first 4 matches and the rest mean absolutely nothing as they can't get relegated

Difficult to punish the clubs because fans of those clubs don’t deserve to see their clubs destroyed by the actions of greedy owners

Perez - Real Madrid president speaking at the moment. Absolutely incredible. Can’t believe some of the things he is coming out with. For anyone who are interested..

Only way to generate money for clubs to pay off debts brought about by pandemic is to play more competitive games

Super League will save clubs financially

Football must evolve. Tv deals going down. Needs to become more global

Big clubs playing each other more often generates more money. Not just the rich who want super league

If big clubs continue to lose money whole football system crashes down

Not a closed league. 5 teams will be able to play with best teams in the world

Doesn’t understand new UCL format. Super League will save football

Players won’t be banned from playing for national teams - impossible

Teams won’t be banned from domestic leagues - impossible

Teams won’t be suspended from this years champions league and Europa League - impossible

If top clubs are richer lower clubs get richer

PSG not invited yet. German clubs not invited yet. If they refuse it will not be cancelled

15 founding clubs matter most

If no Super League football will die by 2024. This is only way to save everyone

Everything will go back to normal

Will hire best referees in the world

Everyone signed contracts last Saturday and these were binding. Teams cannot leave

Trying to start in August

If no agreement with UEFA will not back down

Young people find football matches too long. May need to make matches shorter

Just wow

I don’t believe they won’t get the twenty clubs needed Rangers & Celtic for two both pissed off with Scottish football, PSG, Galatasaray & Fernabache there will be others. A lot will be down to what the current authorities do or try to do, kick them out of their domestic competitions ? Let’s see what balls they have.

I almost made a comment yesterday that it wouldn’t be long until football matches were an hour long and were divided into quarters - seems that wouldn’t have been too far off the mark!

Let them go, football is all about belonging, those supposed super 6 lost there identity years ago. Coventry for example apart from moving to an out of town stadium are still basically a community club serving the City and Warwickshire, I wouldnt give a toss if we got to the PL league without the rebel clubs, I'd just as much enjoy going to Villa Park, Selhusrt Park, St James Park, Elland Rd, Carrow Rd, the Sheffield Clubs,West Ham etc, look at us in league 2 and 1 selling out Wembley, away games sold out weeks in advance, teams like Coventry are special because of the relationship with our fans who I've known for 30 years, meeting up at Southend, Cheltenham, Rochdale, Sunderland etc, that what's makes me proud to be a City fan, let the others fuck off, football will carry on, the fan bases in this country are massive and the lifeblood of most clubs.

Sadly, we have a watered down version of these charlatans. Look at what they did to us. Their big league dreams seem to be looking easier but here again the fans were the one that suffered. Never forget.

The telegraph is pointing the fingers firmly at the Spanish clubs, who are in financial trouble.

I see the Glazer family took £20m in divis from Utd last year.

The pressure in recent weeks to agree a public consensus on the Super League and announce its founders has come almost exclusively from Spain where Pérez’s Real and Barcelona are burdened with debts so severe it threatens to take them under. In both cases more than €1 billion with no way out in a depressed pandemic transfer-market. Real are committed to a costly long-term stadium rebuild; Barcelona struggled to meet their six-monthly wage obligations in January. Pérez has long sought to eliminate the financial supremacy of the Premier League, built on the equality that Spain’s Liga will not tolerate, and he has found a way in via the soft underbelly of the American ownerships.

The Glazers at Manchester United, Liverpool’s Fenway Group, and the hapless Kroenke family ownership at Arsenal own the three most valuable heritage pieces of English football. Unlike the US sports franchises under their control whose value and revenue is protected by the closed-shop nature of US sport leagues, there is no such stability in the English game. The jeopardy of the sport is what confers its intrinsic value and also what makes it such a challenge to its owners. Those owners would much rather the Major League Soccer system, where each franchise is guaranteed its place in the league year in and year out and holds its value for an investor.

Although there is a consequence to that too – MLS has high franchise valuations but a paltry annual broadcast deal of €90 million. Football fans can smell the absence of risk and the confected nature of a competition where there is no relegation and they treat it accordingly. Yet this is the model that the great European game would follow.

A Super League is, tragically, a great victory for Pérez, a man who controls Real despite investing no more money in the club than his annual socio fee of €150. So too for Agnelli, the unremarkable scion of one of Italy’s great industrialist families who, like Joel Glazer or that renowned football expert Josh Kroenke inherited all their power and wealth from mum and dad. The Spanish and Italian clubs who have trampled competition in their own leagues have finally unlocked the door to the one competitor whom they could not rein in: the Premier League, where a democracy of sorts existed and the super-majority of 14 meant that everyone shared the decision-making.

It was the destruction of that fragile consensus that PBP sought and yet in the aftermath the 14 clubs fought back. Never let it be forgotten that when the reckoning came at a fiery Premier League shareholders’ meeting in October, the clubs that had been integral to PBP’s conception – who had finessed its very detail – duly joined in the unanimous condemnation of the proposals they had themselves created.

Perez gets epitomises the arrogance of these 15 clubs. We can do what we want and no-one can touch us. Football loses this battle and these 15 clubs will quite literally be running the game.

If FIFA/uefa/FA stand firm, they could turn this into a joke league within 3 seasons, where players only go for one last pay day before retirement.

Ban all players from competing in any FIFA/uefa ran competitions, FA to ban all players from the domestic game. Ban all officials from those clubs from ever being involved in football again.

Immediately throw out all clubs from domestic league, no relegations, 6 up from division below, prize money to be split between all 86 remaining clubs, money given to supporters of the 6 to start phoenix clubs, with a minimum 51% fan ownership.

I actually think football in this country would be a lot better without those 6 clubs.

They were talking to people in the far East yesterday on the news and they loved the idea, but of course they don't go to matches anyway. That's who it's going to appeal to the most. Those in far flung places who only ever watch games on TV anyway.

Agreed Otis. Focus on tv money. You can see it now, playing matches in neutral countries, extortionate ticket prices etc etc (*like NFL, and Barca for that matter) turning it into a match day experience for tourists rather than for fans that love their club and are desperate to see them win

*I love the NFL and have been some games over but you can’t follow your team properly like we do over here (ticket prices, travel etc)

Think the issue is that it’s looking at the worldwide market. It’s a fuck you to their own countries but how many fans in Korea, India, China etc etc. What they probably haven’t counted on is the massive reaction from their fans which could affect sales, merchandise etc. Still cannot see it happening perosnally
