What do I expect ?

Yeah maybe you are right, on this forum I should have expected that some dick head would try and turn a conversation on lottery into an argument.

Still haven't checked my tickets but would not spend more than a fiver and even that would be too much. I dont m d e odd couple of quid but anything more is silly, it's like the people who put a tenner on a 80-1 shot and expect it to win! There is a reason for the vast odds and smacks of desperation.

If losing made me that angry I wouldn't have put the money on in the first place.

I bought 5 tickets for Friday's draw, with no return, oh well.

Over the years I've seen different friends and acquaintance's do fortunes. I saw an ex boxer from Coventry go £23,000 down one night in the casino, and end up winning £800.

Another friend of mine did £40,000 between the afternoon in the betting shop and by 4am in the casino. He was a bit naughty, hence being in a position to earn huge sums, but if he had a grand in his pocket he gamble a grand, if he had £20,000 he'd do £20,000. He'd be worth at least £2million if he wasn't a punter, but he's currently residing at her majesties pleasure and he will come out to no money.

I was in Blackpool last January with my cousin. We had a night out where too many Jäger's were drank, he went to the casino. He got over 4grand in front, before giving it them all back, and the money he had on him, which was about £1500.

Mug punters, that's why I take bets rather than gamble myself.

Terrorist Alert!!!

Wouldn't get depressed as I only gamble what I can afford to lose.

So what's the real issue here then, Is it that someone else can afford to gamble £100 away and you don't like it.

Really don't understand your obsession.

It's just a bit of ribbing.

Personally, even if I was really well off I still wouldn't put more than a fiver on. In fact, if I was well off I wouldn't even bother with it.

People aren't obsessed. They are just ribbing you cos you lost £100. You can see that surely?

You don't consider taking bets a gamble then? If you look at the Betfair results and you'll note that average odds starting prices pretty much represent their true worth and hence why it's such a hard game to make money on from either side of the fence, with the only real winners being the site themselves who take the commission.

Gone are the days when tissue prices were tentative as the markets are now pretty much set by the punters on Betfair and the other boys follow suit. Without inside info or luck, most are simply guessers.

Even the main chain betting shops struggle to turn a profit and are really there as breakeven (covering ovgerheads) with the profits coming from the virtuals on screen, lotteries and the bot terminals now in every shop.

Of course it is, but I've made a good living at it over the years. There have been occasions when I've been stung, but I lay off any bets that will cost too much.

Most are simply guessers, and most punters tend to guess wrong, as you say, it's a gamble on both sides, but I know which side I prefer to be stood.
