Good question on talksport last night. Would you rather us beat Scotland tonight but lose to Italy in the qualifier next month, or beat Italy but lose to Scotland.

It's laughable really. Why hasn't he gone?

Why is it only some players that it matters about their club? Why doesn't he use games against teams like Malta to try things rather than his boring, predicable shite with his favourites.

He says stuff like that but then plays others like madison out of position.

I’m still rankling over this to be honest. His approach to it has properly pissed me off. Don’t recall the same argument when he decided (before he ever played a game there for Liverpool) that Trent was a CM.

Is that a serious question. Win a real game or a friendly? Matters more to them than us. I could t care less

What a ridiculous statement. You don't know me at all or who I empathise with and why. Anyway I don't want to derail this thread. I guess I shouldn't have bothered responding to your ridiculous post in the first place.

I can't believe many people would care more about a friendly than a qualifier.

How many of them are in the Premier League in the last 2 seasons?

I think what Southgate has said is true but been misunderstood. He doesn't trust his work out of possession when playing through the middle & neither does Pep.

Almost tears in Southgate's eyes describing the criticism of Harry Maguire. It's clear his loyalty to the player is blinding him to something that is probably now obvious even to Maguire himself.

There really isn't much of an alternative.

You either play players like Henderson, or you limit players like JWP or Bellingham by playing them out of position and not to their strengths

I get your point, but at least Henderson has played some football….

I’d put Trent in there personally.

Rice and Bellingham can both play centrally , Madison , Gallagher or Foden could play behind Foden

You are really limiting Bellingham by having him as a holding player imo. You should be building the team around him in his best position.

Play him as an 8 ? Rice doesn't need anyone alongside him

Personally think hes best as a 10. Rice isnt a natural holding player in my opinion either.

It’s insane that a player who essentially hasn’t even started a competitive club match for over a season is starting for England.

He does with that back four unfortunately. Agree with other comments, it’s would be great to have Bellingham playing an 8 but would probably stifle him a little…Southgate is a conservative coach as we all know.

for what it’s worth I think Phillips is pretty decent in his role but does need to be playing more

I am a bit concerned about Maguire and Philips, but hopefully we have enough in our tank to get the point we need.

I don't like Trippier at left back much either..

With Phillips it's because he's still probably the best we have in that role. The City move obviously hasn't worked out but they're the best team in the world, he'd get in practically every other PL team.

Maguire is a trusted favourite of Southgate.
