In tonight’s edition of PUSB, Sky Blues fans can read a two-page exclusive from chief executive Tim Fisher following the events of the last few days.
In it, Fisher writes: “As everyone is aware, there has been massive change both on and off the field during the summer, much of it involving cutting our cloth according to our new budgets.
“However, in conjunction with financial re-structuring we desperately needed a cultural change to ensure positive results going forward.
“This cultural change is one that promotes aspiration, success and leadership. Coventry City is a big club that requires everyone associated with the club to have an ambitious and successful outlook coupled with a work ethic that highlights that we will do ‘what it takes’ to push on through the challenges.
“At the end of the season we knew we were going to lose many of our leading players who, quite understandably, wanted to continue to play in the Championship. All were offered deals to stay.
“To date, we have brought in nine players to create a squad capable of pushing for promotion and fit for purpose in terms of our immediate ambition.
“We have one of the largest – if not the largest – playing budgets in the division and have a strong squad. On Saturday we had Gary McSheffrey and Callum Ball on the bench to take to the field in the second half. Most would agree that they would be the primary strike force at most League One clubs.
“Over the last three league games we have seen flashes of the quality from the new players that led the club to recruit them. But only flashes.
“Success only comes from consistent high-level performances coupled with a winning mentality - the desire to win. We cannot escape the fact that the results have not been acceptable.
“All staff were fully informed over the summer that the aim this season was to reverse the trend of failure and have a strong start. The situation required change to ensure that we do not have an embedded trend of not winning.”
