Worth noting that strikers in general don’t have great aerial duel numbers, but Simms’ are second only to Haji’s, and he does twice as well as Norm or BTA.

Baresi was good in the air BTW

Exactly. Theres barely an interview goes by where Lampard doesnt reference how good Wright is. He will be back starting as soon as he is able to

Wright needs to be scoring and making his mark quickly. With the World Cup less than 18 months away and in the USA he needs to be at the top of his game.

He played well. I find criticism of him yesterday quite odd to be honest with you.

The team were largely diabolical yesterday overall..

We scored 2 goals against the run of play and won , it happens .

Let's not bend reality on what we were watching in real time

It’s amazing watching the retconning in real time. Every report says they battered us, every stat says they battered us, the match thread says they battered us, yet we’ve got people claiming it was a close game and a draw would have been fair or best of all that Lampard set us up to defend that way as part of his plan.

I don't think anybody played particularly well, and I don't think simms played particularly well overall.

Not sure that's odd

Let’s be honest they did batter us but we still could have easily had 3 goals.

I mean we did get three goals. One was inexplicably ruled out. But they could have had six.

Sorry if I saw Simms play well but someone is going to try and convince me otherwise because 'aerial duels won' I will stay silent in future. I don't even know you're opinion on how Simms played yesterday but it seems you've perhaps gone for the more unpopular angle again which isn't surprising atm.
Again though, I don't actually come on here to argue, and I don't see the point in getting heated about a football opinion that over a beer would be an agree to disagree and move on moment. So like I said to Evo I'll leave it now. I think most will see Simms had a good game.

I gave him a 10 in the ratings thread if that helps. In my eyes he scored a hattrick and played the role well.

And the Tats header and penalty shout. Yes we were totally outplayed but all they had was an own goal. Turn that around to earlier in the season. Totally switched around

Since new year has been the total opposite of the first half of the season. I guess that’s how luck averaging out works. I thought they had a couple of decent penalty shouts as well tbh.

I wouldn't say shite, Bannon ran the show and dictated the game, we still had chances though. Thought we battled well rode our luck at times but could of won 4-1

Well if we aim to play a 325 on attack it’ll probably end up with Kitching, Thomas and Bidwell in the 3 with Sheaf and Grimes in the 2 and MvE and Rudoni pushing into the 5 with Wright EMC and Simms

I think we struggled to do so many basic things right all game .. couldn't pass well , players not coming into the spaces to recieve so we couldn't get out , players not holding the ball up well to assist us getting out , CBs defending too narrow we were generally very poor but such is football you will have a couple chances .

If we play like that yesterday every game until the seasons end we won't be so fortunate , it wasn't a good performance

But we won't play like that every game. 2 years ago was very stop start, we didn't start motoring until late March.

Ref got all the penalty shouts right, imo.

Ours it just hit the guy (whether on the arm or not I don't know, but it doesn't matter). Theirs, first one the guy ran into Lati who was just standing his ground, second was a blatant play for a penalty that didn't work.

I agree. He scored two and had a third disallowed and at least seems keener to chase down and follow up. Overall game though still is lacking.

Not true, have you forgotten he was dropped earlier this season in favour of Bassette?

When he returned he was far more active and is now back to bullying defenders.
He definitely wasn't doing that before he was dropped.
