I said he worked hard, but that should be taken as a given.
He had a golden opportunity to score and didn't take it, that sums him up.

Maybe, just maybe that's the reason Lampard uses him as third choice striker

There’s one thing I don’t get about Simms.
Challenging for a header in the halfway line he often looks poor (though he was better last night), but he seems so much better in the penalty area.
The one at Millwall where he out jumped the keeper, headed goals last season from corners (Watford away?). Generally looks so much more threatening there.
Anyway, thought he was excellent last night. More of the same please Ellis!

We need Simmo to be performing like this if we want to go up, it's great to see the fight and the desire back. We need all three of the strikers, Haji and BTA can't carry us for the whole season by themselves.

I think Ellis’s header was going in anyway just the touch from BTA made sure. The angle from behind shows the keeper beaten and it was sneaking inside the post

He's been a real threat in his cameos recently and transferred that form into the 90 mins last night with a decent performance. But there were still a few mistakes.... His header for BTA's goal was poor, and should've been on target, his miss from Sakamoto's cross, and then he failed to hold the ball up on the half way line which led to their goal.

But the positives outweighed the negatives, and the way he brushed off the defender, and then played the perfect pass to BTA for the 2nd was superb. Fingers crossed he continues like this, as it means we can rotate Haji when needed

His header was going in before BTA made sure, it had beaten the keeper and was inside the post. He played like a hero last night and should be lauded for his efforts

The main issue with Leicester is they have a very lopsided squad. Significant quality in some areas, but seriously lacking in others.

There's also the added complication of several players quite clearly not particularly wanting to be there.

It'll be interesting to see how they get on. Worth noting that they scored yet again from a long range effort last night. I think that's around half of all their goals so far this season coming from outside the box.

Not a particularly difficult tactic to squash as opposition players will just be instructed to close down earlier. Once that happens it'll be interesting how Cifuentes shifts tactics as it looks like that's all they've got at the minute - that and just hoping Fatawu does something miraculous.

Southampton look to be significantly underperforming their data, as do Ipswich to be fair. I haven’t watched much of the former but what I’ve seen of the latter reminds me of how we looked in 23/24 after a squad overhaul where big figures in the dressing room had moved on or lost influence. They look in transition to me.

On paper Lesta have the strongest squad but the worst data of the 3. I actually expect Cifuentes to be gone by Christmas if the indifferent performances continue as they’re under big financial pressure to go up.

He did, as well as BTA and the latter is from BTA's own words.

Simms put in a performance that’s put his hat in the ring. You can’t argue that he should play ahead of Wright or BTA but he’s keeping them honest and it gives Lampard food for thought. Definitely deserves more minutes.

Part of the squad again now. Exciting to have different options meaning we can genuinely go 'horses for courses' if needs be. Haji looked a bit jaded but more than that he'll know he needs to sharpen up as nobody is guaranteed a spot. Competition keeps people sharp look at how just having Woolf in the wings seems to have galvanised Kitch & Bobby.

I’m just listening to last nights post-match and BTA confirmed he was playing through injuries throughout last season.

Significantly, it corroborates @Jimmy87 intel which confirmed all 3 of our strikers were dealing with significant knocks at the tail end of last season.

Last season was the statistical outlier for Simms and BTA so I’m not surprised that they’re doing much better. I didn’t expect to BTA to ‘pop off’ to the extent he has to be honest. This season may also be an outlier for BTA for all the right reasons.

BTA is playing so well, there’s a serious consideration as to how we reintegrate Rudoni in the team. He’s obviously a starter but do we continue with 4-4-2 or does BTA revert to one of the wings?
I think when Rudoni comes back, his minutes will be managed anyway, due to the length of time out and the injury itself.
It's a nice problem to have though for once. BTA can't be dropped with the form he is so i am guessing he will revert to one of the wings and either Tats or EMC will make way. Though everyone is playing really well, neither of the wingers are contributing with goals, BTA is simply on fire.

I hope that in January we add to the wing because although BTA has proved very versatile, we still need that direct competition for those spots and i fear that he could burn out eventually or get injured due to the schedule.

You're right about last season being a statistical outlier for them, also right in saying that this season could be too for all the right reasons. I hope it is.

With regards to Simms, i'm pleased for him, that was a good performance last night, as have his cameos been so far this season.
When he arrived here, it was in the wake of Gyokeres moving on. He instantly had great expectations upon him, along with it wrongly being bandied around that he was on the same wage as our record signing, which is ridiculous and hasn't helped matters.

He was purchased as a 22yr old with potential for development. He had been loaned around a lot, and probably could have done with spending a full season with Sunderland, rather than being recalled to sit on the bench at Everton.
He had a decent first season considering his age and the usual settling into a new home with his family etc.
Last season with the injury to Wright at the beginning, the bad start for the team and the pressure Robins was under, the injuries, Lampard came in and adapted the team, knowing that none of our strikers were 100% and we couldn't play to the ability to which we are now.
I believe now they are all fit, we are seeing what they are capable of.

At the moment i think Simms is being managed in the correct way. Wright is our main man and absolutely should be at the price we paid for him, he is our best striker and most experienced, he should always start when possible.
This way, those on the bench can developed with good coaching and less pressure.
I've heard that Lampard spends time one on one with all players too, that is a sign of really good man management.

You can see all the players on the bench are hungry when they come on, last night being a great example, Wright got the rest he needed and will be ready to go on Saturday, Simms came in and did the job we needed him to do.
It would have topped off the evening if he could have got his goal but he did fine, he was a menace, 2 assists, not sure if his header was going in, but BTA was exactly where you want your strikers to be. He's nicked a few on the line this season but who cares, rather be sure they are going in than being flat footed and they get cleared.
I don't care if every goal we score is a tap in as long as the strikers are moving and are there to put the ball in the net.

Honestly? None of them are in form. We need more goals from them. At some point, the goals will slow down from Torp, BTA and Haji. Particularly, some of BTA and Torp’s goals have been low xG and that’s only sustainable for so long.

I think last nights flirtation with 3 ATB is a precursor for playing 5-3-2 more often this season. Last season we had a lot of joy with 5-3-2.

We’re already managing EMC’s minutes and Sakamoto isn’t the biggest goal threat. So perhaps we’ll see 5-3-2 as the fixtures become more congested.

I do tend to agree that we need to see the likes of EMC and Saka popping up with some goals but I guess EMC has been providing a couple of assists.
It’s nice to see when people like KKH come on and get a goal.
Saka can have hit and miss games, the other night he comes on and has a blinder but then some games he goes anonymous.
I think when Rudoni comes back those two will need to lift their consistency or could fall to the bench.
Competition for places keeps you performing as we’ve seen with Kitching, Thomas, MVE.

I agree on the competition point. We have the luxury to rotate players in some areas now.

The only ‘gap’ is our winger options because there is only EMC and Saka. KKH and Brau aren’t the players you want to bring on chasing games. All the games we’ve drew this season, we did look like we’d ran out of ideas and there wasn’t anything off the bench to mix it up. Despite the 2-0 win v B’burn, I felt like we were heading to a draw because we weren’t fashioning ‘big chances’ - 2 great strikes turned it for us.

Last night has opened up the possibility we’ll use 3 ATB as a means to rotate. Overall, if the default is 4-2-3-1, we need 1-2 wide players.

I think Simms is more suited to away games at present as he’s mobile enough to be better in space which tends to be less in home games.

We’ve had false dawns with him before, but I have to say since the Birmingham game Simms has really, really impressed me

His best few games in a City top by far and I include that period he went through that purple patch in his first season in that

He led the line brilliantly the other night and is finally looking like the powerful, commanding No. 9 a lad of his size should be

Didn't he go on loan though? Unless there is a recall option and we plan to make an offer to buy.

He's on loan in Turkey but if both clubs agreed a suitable fee I wonder if they'd recall in Jan and sell him to us.

Hopefully this is the case. Or at least have another target set up and ready to make a move early on.
