Why dont we support our players rather than dig them out when they put in an equal performance to the rest of the squad?

The players get plenty of support during games.
If people can't criticise them on a forum then there's no point in having them

I've been a massive critic of Collins but I was still one of the ones singing his name v the Baggies.

Nobody would be moaning about simms if he had scored 19 in 44 league games ffs , honestly what are you even on about at this point

The records you've just put up are good

He did last season. Unless goals in the quarter and semi finals of FA Cup no longer count now?

Posters like you and Grendel have consistently use the argument of games ‘x’ player has scored in. The point here was to demonstrate that the top scorers in the league will score in a surprising small % of games they play. For example, Piroe and Sainz have scored in less than 1 in 3 matches they play because they have had multiple matches where they’ve scored more than 1 goal.

How many minutes is that out of curiosity? In that select timeframe, he’s had many sub appearances less than 10 minutes.

It is because you’re manipulating the numbers and you know it.

Despite all of what you, Grendel and anyone else, in all competitions, Simms scores a goal per 212 minutes since he’s joined us.

Divide the total number of minutes he’s played for us and the goals and you’ll get the exact same number as I have.

I’ve already accepted that this season hasn’t been great and this obviously needs to improve next season and all you’ve done is drone on the same point.

You haven't accepted it , as you're waffling and talking about his record including cup games etc etc etc ..

Since leeds at home last April in the league hes scored a goal every 439 minutes .. thats it .. so times 439 by 6 and you will get how long hes played

You've guessed it , almost a goal every 5 games

I ask because no one knows how you’ve come up with that figure.

I’ll show my working out:

Total minutes played: 5501
Total goals scored: 26
MPG: 211.57

You’ve discounted 2 goals against Man U and Bristol City for no good reason. If you want to rate a player by their goal scoring, there’s no good reason to discount competitions.

Simms also didn’t make a consecutive start from September 2024 to Jan 2025 so his appearances were mostly dribs and drabs of 10-20 minutes here annd there.

Besides, his goals in our run in Feb (alongside BTA) were instrumental to where we are today and I’ve yet to see you or Grendel acknowledge that. Give credit where it’s due at least.

I'm struggling with you tbh , because you simply aren't listening

This season in the league 2155 minutes

Last 6 games last season after leeds 463 minutes

6 goals in his last 47 league games that equalled 2618 minutes

2618 minutes divided by 6 goals scored since leeds at home last season

Hes scored a goal every 436 minutes in THE LEAGUE since leeds last season 47 appearances ago

1 goal almost every 5 appearances IN THE LEAGUE SINCE LEEDS LAST SEASON

hope this helps !!!!!

@Jimmy87 any other snippets on potential areas of priority - GK for example / centre half?
Guess will also depend who’s shipped out / moved on - suspect Stoke may be destination for couple.

Why just April? Does it have something to do with the fact he scored 5 goal in March and 4 goals in Jan through Feb…

More importantly, how does Simms MPG compare to BTA and Bassette? They’re your alternatives for the rest of the season so best to use them as a baseline.

I’ve used Simms total stats because there’s no selection there. It’s what he’s done with good and the bad. Despite the lowlights, he’s still 1 in every 212 minutes.

Which is not good enough, you’re right. It’s not terrible though. At least this is a more honest than your previously, highly selected timeframes.

Because it was the end of his good form in the league , thats why i started there not because I want to make him look bad , because thats how he has played since his good spell in the league

He scored 1 in 24 before that spell too

You’re right when it comes to small sample sizes. After a season or two worth of data, I don’t think it is.

Think the problem is that most of the players people want moving on are on decent length contracts so they won't be in a rush to move.

You said hardly started. He's started 24 league games. That's over half. He's also come on as sub in another 17 of them and only 3 games he's not featured. Just how much of a chance does he need? But to say he's 'hardly started' as you did is clearly bollocks!

Think we should be OK to move a few on as they won't be happy with their game time (Lati, Bidwell, BTA)

We don't seem to have a group of players who are happy to sit on their contract on the bench as most are either at or approaching their prime

For Simms it would take out of the blue interest though as the outlay was decent. He could push for it if we sign a striker this summer - bit like how Palmer ended up going.

Not really. Ultimately, you can only score what's in front of you. But it's a rubbish metric to use for the point you're trying to prove, especially when there's complete anomalies such as a hattrick vs Maidstone in there.

Hence why context needs to be applied to the data otherwise it's meaningless as a standalone.

So basically he started 50 PC...A lot of them at the start of the season, when the whole team were aiming for relegation. How many under Frank? The whole team were shite.. didn't he set up the goal? Didn't he flick a header onto Wright, where Wright should have scored?

TBF, probably not many more prolific forwards in the Championship, over the last 3 seasons, than Simms. He's scored 1 every 230 minutes. Piroe is 1 in every 180 minutes, but then he cost more and is definitely worth a lot more + Leeds have been scoring for fun. Take someone like Riis, at Preston, he's 1 for every 260 minutes. This is just league goals.

Numbers really aren't your thing are they? He's started 16 games under Frank and been on 10 as sub, so if anything he's featured even more under Lampard. It's also 59% v 41% on starting v sub not '50PC'. He's also featured in 93%of matches over the season. I've been at almost all of them and certainly enough to form an opinion. If you want to quote assits to helping his numbers then he has 2 assists in 41 matches and no he didnt set up the goal, it was saved and Wright put in the rebound.

I'm not sure how you managed to get so much wrong in one short sentence but well done!

Baffles me that people are defending Simms tbh. I don’t care about all the goals per game bollocks, I care about what I’ve seen over the last 2 seasons and it has very rarely been anywhere near the standard.

Simms had one run against Hull last week where he ran from the half way line to their box to get a shot off on goal. That’s one of the only times this season I can genuinely remember him surprising and impressing me. I don’t care if he only gets 7 or 8 goals a season, if he came out with more moments like that, creating something out of nothing, then I’d defend him to the end. Instead he remains anonymous almost every game, losing the ball when we attack with his shocking first touch and fails to ever really be an aerial threat despite his height. I’m just so fed up with it, the sooner we get rid the better.
