Sure, but doesn’t everyone to some extent? Why single out Simms for playing in what has been a pretty thankless role in this formation? You could criticise anyone in our squad for not playing at Gyokeres-levels.

Ultimately though, strikers are judged on goals.
There's loads of thinks Wright doesn't do well, but he produces the numbers.

Hold on , its not a thankless role and nobody seems to have an issue when other players have their deficiencies discussed on this forum.

Thomas , asante , Eccles etc etc .

For weeks ive been underwhelmed by the performances of our main striker who we've paid 3 or so upfront million for and as a supporter feel that hes got much more to give .

Only to come on here and see a supporter rate him 8/10 for yesterday and wonder if I'm living through the butterfly effect ffs

The team is clearly not wanting for goals. With the rate that our wingers and midfielders are scoring I would be surprised if this was by accident rather than design. I’d love to see Simms scoring every week but if he’s not the focal point of the attack then that’s fine too.

I feel like some believe Simms works as hard as a dirk kuyt in terms of pressure and defensive work etc

Maybe the stats prove that for Simms but I don't see it myself so I'm not sure how much I agree with the thankless task stuff

The run we are on and all you want to do is rip into individual players.
When Simms is bombed out who next? Don’t tell me,got to be Eccles.
Then we can start on DeSilva,he has never been good enough( too small). Don’t forget Allen ( lightweight).
Shief is misplacing passes left right and centre as well. Asante couldn’t trap a bag of cement.
And don’t get me started on Collins as a so called goalkeeper.
Ffs we must be bottom of this league.

Come on the arguing starts because people struggle to discuss certain players

This forum had absolutely no problem destroying asante yesterday , collectively

He was poor but nobody has an issue discussing that

It's a forum. If all you're allowed to do is slap players on the back it would be pretty pointless.

Along as its constructive I don't see the issue. And if its not, people generally get pulled up about it.

I think most clubs have players that divide opinion.

I think they have a really lopsided squad. Some very good players in there and then some absolutely bang average.

Sainz has also been poor for some time. He hasn't scored since November. Which wouldn't have helped them.

I haven't watched them much but Sainz struck me as a Hamer-esque cheat code in this league. Against Oxford though it looked like they were relying heavily on those two to get the job done.

Kinda like WBA, the yoyoing is at an end and they'll lose more of their good players every summer, the 2 you mentioned probably next.
Think they better get comfortable in this division for a while.

Just had a takeover with Delia Smith relinquishing control so they might be able to hold onto those players next season. As far as we're concerned West Brom are the biggest threat to our playoff chances in my view.

Be interested to see their accounts. West Broms look horrific.
Either way I'd be surprised if Sargent wants to stick around another season.

Nobody mentioned constantly slapping players on the back. But even when we are winning week in and week out,you can come on this forum and guarantee you will see the same players constructively criticised every week.
Eccles,DaSilva and Simms to name a few.
If you want to look at the posts and call them constructive you do that. We both know it won’t be true.

I never said its, all constructive, I said as long as its constructive.
When its not constructive it generally gets called out.

But just because we're winning it doesn't mean everything is rosy.

He's an excellent player at this level but his form has dropped off a cliff.

I think that's it really. And due to Sainz' lack of form they're now heavily reliant on just Sargent for goals, which just isn't sustainable.

Not a great game from him, but he played an important role.

For a Centre Forward Simms is too much of a nice guy, you take yesterday when we should have been awarded a penalty he should have been in the referees ear giving it loads, he was the nearest to the referee.

Instead it was like watching a school kid asking the teacher, please sir can we have a penalty.

Why do we always need to have a player to call crap?

So Simms is so poor we've been playing with only 10 players yet are well clear on form in the last 10 games? We're at the top of the table in Europe for headed goals yet nothing to do with Simms?

Some people need to watch our attacks and high balls more closely. Simms gets 2 or 3 players on him. We normally have a couple more players close to the goal. They also get tightly covered. The other side then doesn't have the players to stop our other players running in. Torp's second goal showed it well. If he didn't get the cross we had Eccles unmarked that would have got the ball. 2 shots 2 goals.

Comparing Simms to Gyokeres is unfair. There isn't a player in the Championship even close to him. We know Simms can score. He has scored a couple of good goals recently. He scored plenty last season. Lampard was a world class midfielder who scored lots of goals. Our midfielders and defenders are now scoring a lot of goals. Is this just a coincidence? If they're putting half their defence on Simms it gives us the space elsewhere to score. We haven't won 9 in the last 10 games and have gone from just 2 points from the bottom 3 to getting to 5th and pulling away from the pack by luck.

Not asking for you to agree. I just don't understand why we need to look for a boo boy when we're on our best run for over 50 years. It's a team game. We're putting lots of balls into the area but mainly not to our strikers. They're being used more as a decoy. If they don't get many chances they won't score many goals. Simple.

Only three matches ago Simms was the match winner for us against Sheffield Wednesday.

Some posters will never take to Simms because he isn't Matty Godden.

For me he's the best number 9 we have and has some good raw attributes that still need to be honed so lets get behind him and he's capable of giving any defence in this league a hard match when he's on his game.

Was only a few weeks ago we were being told Cannon was a bargain at £10 million in comparison to Simms, now Cannons not scored since his transfer it's changed to Sargent now.

He's not as good as Sargent but Sargent is a £15-20 mill player

Simms is going to struggle to score when he's playing most of the game with his back to goal, 35-50 yards out and being marked by 3 defenders with his nearest team mate 20 yards away. As soon as he went off we looked awful and had no hold up play at all from Wright. We didn't create a single chance for Simms or Wright.

Simms will be compared with Wright next, ignoring that Wright is our record signing.

I would still like someone to explain to me how we have managed to win 9 games out of 10 and be clear at the top of the form table if one of our players are so shite. How can we be in our best form for over 50 years if we're playing 10 players and a donkey?

He scored 19 goals last season (13 in the league if it makes it sound worse) so knows where the back of the net is.

Who are we to say Lampard has got his tactics/team selection wrong?
