Using your logic , BTA was good yesterday when he came on because we won

I wouldn't mind norman getting a shot at the striker role again at some point. Doesn't mean he's the best. Doesn't mean he would need to be there permanently but if no one makes that number 9 slot their own maybe he could nab a couple more goals this season given a chance

I'm in the middle on this, I do think Simms could be better but its a team game and there's a reason our midfielders are finding so much room in the box. Is he simply doing what's asked of him?
Again, not saying he's been great but he's been playing his part in this incredible run.
Wright has different attributes, if Lampard sees him more as a CF it will be interesting to see how that plays out.

All you're doing here is opening yourself up for the next time you say a player has played poorly if we win a match .

Well done

Many on this forum dont seem to think haji can play through the middle which is where hes scored most of his career goals , is my point

You’re Wright because he’s only really played LW regularly since joining us. He has scored most of his goals playing as a striker in 2 man partnership with us rather than as a lone striker here.

The way we’re playing atm, Haji will make the most of his attributes picking the ball up and running at defenders down the flanks. How our wingers operate, they operate in a ‘triangle’ and are expected to join the box as a striker (BTA did this a lot), in the middle where a AM would end up (Sakamoto operates inside a lot) and of course as a winger taking in fullbacks in the traditional sense of the word.

Linking this back to Haji, it’s a role that has suited him well in a 4-2-3-1 system.

Using Gyokeres as a benchmark for Simms’ performance levels strikes me as somewhat unfair.

Why dont we use other 9s in this league then , like Sargent for example ?

Compare him to 9s in this division

He wouldn't be able to hold it up like Simms but he would perhaps pressure more and get in behind his man more

‘Ellis Simms isn’t as good as European football’s most coveted and prolific striker OR the Championship’s most in-form striker’ - useless fucking donkey.

For me he's holding up ball better. Being big more physical and scored a nice goal recently

But I want him terrorising defenders. Winning most headers. Running with ball at his feet. Barging defenders off ball even if giving away fouls etc

He's using maybe 70 percent of his physical attributes right now

Absolutely 100% agree , he doesn't use his attributes ANYWHERE NEAR enough and we need more from him .

I've been saying this for weeks

Best example is Lukaku

Look at him under others managers and then under conte. Under the later he's an absolute phenomenon of physicality

Hopefully lampard is on at Simms to show more every week

Well here’s how he stacks up against them:

Not exactly a Gyokeres-style cheat code player for sure. But in terms of the things being asked/expected of him in this lone striker role - winning balls in the air, taking chances and driving forward with the ball - he’s at least above average and in some cases pretty good.

Last season I made a thread praising the performances of Ellis simms but hes scored 6 goals in his last 39 league appearances for the club since his good spell last season and we've paid good money for him , the simple reality is he has so much more to give us and has underperformed in long periods and some on this forum seems to have a problem with that opinion
