We have yet another manager.
Slade seemed like a complete tactical novice while I think Mowbray suffered from a lack of targeted signings and tried too hard in fitting square pegs into round holes without any luck.
The squad is good enough and have shown that on occasion this season (MV's run of games)
So I see MR as someone who will be more appealing to our squad and will get them playing better and motivated better. That's a lot to do with personality as anything else.
But are we seeing teams successes or lack of, strictly attached to how good the managers decisions are as opposed to his ability to coach?
Take Man Utd. Where would they be if Jose had not brought in Zlatan? That's great management.
At Man City, Pep has struggled for one so highly acclaimed and still is trying to find the right balance.

So back to the us. We had Adam Armstrong who was if you like our Zlatan, he was the glue that kept it together - because he scored goals. His knack for converting chances like Zlatan does at Utd regardless of tactics or how much coaching you give them, gave us a good season. he was raw talent that only faded when the coaching got to a point of interference and he went on a poor run that ultimately failed us. Teams grow in stature and confidence because of a regular goalscorer. So a manager has to find that talisman figure if he is to succeed. Either by luck or design (in the case of Jose getting an elderly Zlatan was by design, he knew here was a guy in any team will score)
Can MR's find us such a player either in house waiting in the wings, or go out and sign one? At every level you can see why a team is having success. They have a goal scorer. Gayle at Newcastle, Wood at Leeds, Zlatan at Utd, Costa at Chelsea...it's no coincidence that managers build their reputations by their successes and that always seems to end up whether or not they have a goal scorer in the side. Teams like Utd can go buy one but the likes of us have to find one...yes management is a lot harder in the lower leagues.
Is Thomas the answer or one of the academy players scoring for fun? Or do we have to find one and if so who?

I stopped reading when you said the squad is good enough. Most are not good enough for L2.

You can get away with a lot of mistakes as a manager if you have a 20 goal striker on your team. I don't doubt for one minute that we'd be a lot higher up the table with a proven scorer in the side.

I actually agree. The squad is rubbish.

Goals has been our issue this season, but how have we tried to remedy it? Yakubu who could only play for five minutes at a time. Folivi whose signing may as well have been a mass delusion. Selling Sordell and bringing in a link man in Beavon. Playing Thomas and Vernham out on the wings.

Kwame Thomas who seems to be the closest we have has been out almost all season.

Robins had McGoldrick last time and when he went replaced him with Clarke. So seems to both understand the importance of a goal scorer and be able to identify one. I have faith that if he doesn't see one in this squad he'll find one in the summer.

Personally I don't think it's about tactics as much as man management and ensuring people know their job. Both Mowbray last season and Robins in his previous spell managed to make a team that gelled and knew their roles, even if the constituent parts weren't amazing.

I think you flatter mowbray there. For about 3 months, the team performed very well despite him I think rather than because of him. He soon put a stop to that with playing MAF over and over again and Joe cole, Bigi, etc.
