Who are we wanting to see as club captain then?

I presume Ricketts would be obvious choice?

What do we reckon?

Connor Thomas, the lad deserves it, a true captain.

In the same way that SP should have scooped last year's league 1 manager of the season

Exactly

It's obvious that Rickets will take the armband and Jim will be vice captain.

Does the Vice captain organise the end of season tours to Thailand?

Ricketts is the man. Reda "hightower" is too often injured. Jimmy boy should focus on his running up and down the pitch, he is not a leader in my opionion...

My preference would be Vincelot as I prefer a captain to be in the middle of the pitch, where he can communicate to both the forward and backward lines.

That said, I suspect it will be Ricketts

Does the Captaincy really matter as much in football compared to a sport like Cricket, for example.

I always worry when people put too much emphasis on a position that ultimately is just the appointed "heads or tails guy". A captain doesn't really have any say on the team, tactics etc.

I don't buy the "inspirational leader" explanation either, you don't have to have an armband to add that to a football team.

I know it's a cliche but they should all be portraying the attributes and personality traits of what fans and pundits consider to be the requirements of a captain.

Captaincy on the pitch is meaningless in football. Do people honestly believe that a mild and meek centre half is going to transform character and start organising the defence around him just because he's got an armband? Or conversely that the taking the captaincy off such a player (John Terry for England for example) stopped them trying a little bit?

It's purely ceremonial and financial (a way to boost the wages of a favoured player, or as we saw last season punish a wayward one). In Italy I believe the convention is that the captaincy is just given to the most senior player but there's intense rivalry for particular numbered shirts (esp number 10).

Club captains are slightly different they represent the club off the pitch but that's very little to do with football either.

Cricket and Rugby (where only the captain can speak to the ref) are different. In football it's meaningless.

Wish they'd bring this in for football. Automatic yellow card for anyone but the captain who speaks to the ref. Would some calm the histrionics down.

Im not sure. Would give players who are captain like Rooney more of a reason to appeal EVERY decision that goes against him or a team mate

Limiting the person who communicates to the ref doesn't mean they cannot be punished if they abuse it.
