What were you doing 8 years ago? Were you at Wembley?

I was going through chemo and didn't have an immune system so had to stay at home. Watched it on the tele though with the cat.

My son, wife and late step dad had a brilliant day in the sunshine.

What a silly boy George Thomas was.

Yes, was a great day but just felt like a fun escape from reality at the time. Amazing to think i'd never watched us at Wembley but have seen us there a further 3 times since this day.

Its was a great day out, exactly what we needed to show there was hope! in retrospect it was a bit of a turning point in our fortunes. My son was a bit small to take to that one but so glad I got another chance to take him in the playoff vs Exeter. Great memories

you aren't wrong about Thomas, I'm sure he backed himself to make the grade at Leicester and would have been paid a lot more than we could offer but his career really stalled going from 1st team football back into the reserves

Thanks, but I wouldn't be here if I hadn't've, so all good and worth the five months in hospital! I was lucky enough to be at Wembley in 1987 so I just remember being grateful my then 10-year-old son had got to see us win at Wembley too. Little did I know we'd make it a kind of second home!

Really felt like a turning point for the club, even if we were relegated that year.
Wonder where we'd be now if we'd lost in the final...
Didn't think I'd ever see Wembley in my lifetime and now we've been four times!

Sorry you also had to miss it for those reasons, but hopefully you're better for it now

I know, remarkable. I said to my lad at the Utd semi. It took me 21 years to see us twice at Wembley, the Cup Final and Charity Shield and he's 17 and been four times!

I was there and was best moment of my ccfc supporting life tbh

We have had a great 8 years and I hope in a few years we can look back on this being the start of a memorable trophy laden decade that took us back to the premier league

Each time we're there I'm always thinking it might be the last time we get there for a very long time so make the most of it, and then it's usually a return trip the following season!

I was there, a brilliant day out. I was only 7 when we won the FA Cup and hadn't moved over from NI so this was my first final with Cov.

What a day. I remember getting the train up from Chichester and spoke to a few Oxfords who were sound.

Had a fair few beers before the train home and remember me and a mate sitting in first class (if you can call it that) in the carriage that had the drivers cabin at the front. I was obviously singing loudly and repetitively so at one of the stops, he opened his door to have a go at me but realised I was a Cov fan and said something along the lines of 'keep singing but quieter as you've been through a lot'!

I was there - club Wembley right behind the goal - with my daughter and my old man and a group of other chaps. Cracking day out. I was actually signed off work at the time with stress/low mood etc so it was a really welcome event.

Also I confess that whilst we’d been to a few games the season before (my daughters first season watching under Mowbray the likes of Maddison, Joe Cole, Armstrong etc) the checkatrade season the Wembley game was our first. Went to all games afterwards though and then stalwarts from then on (aside from the exiles)

I was also in club Wembley that day a few seats along from me was Anne Lucas . (At the time one of most derisive figure amongst Coventry fans) It was definitely a chance to show the owners and football world the potential the club would have .

Truly wonderful day out. The wife and I were living in Hillingdon at the time so was a very accessible day, and we took both sets of parents. I was a much more casual fan back then than I am now, and it kicked off a journey that led to me starting to listen to Nii Lamptey Show, going to a lot more games and eventually getting a season ticket when we left London and came back home.

The celebration when Thomas scored will remain with me forever. I think we all knew that relegation was more than likely at that point, but the future still felt bright.

@torchomatic: I'm so sorry you went through that but am thrilled that you're still around to tell your story

What a day, I remember you couldn’t go torch, you missed a cracker. Sunny, Wembley turned sky blue, 40k strong SBA at a point where it felt everyone had fooked off and we were on our arse. Proper turning point where we knew the club still had life in it.

Didn't we also break a record that day for most supporters for one team at Wembley for a bit as well, as we had some of Oxford's half too?
I think it was eventually beaten by Sunderland, but I might be misremembering...

Was there too, went in 1987 and with all the turmoil dropping down the leagues, never thought I would go again and able to take my son, how things changed, we've now been to Wembley 4 times together, and looking forward to the 5th anytime soon

I remember thinking when watching the match against Brighton in round 3 that, regardless of how the league was going, we could go far in this.

I had also forgotten that Oxford beat Luton on the semi final.

The first of 4 memorable trips to Wembley for me. Hopefully more to come soon!

Amazing day. I was 13 in 1987 and despite going to nearly all home games that season I didn't go the final.

On the day of the final, we got the train from Tile Hill to Marston Green early and then got it back through Cov to London - meant we could all sit together. I remember some of the lads were finishing beers after half-time and I messaged them saying get out as this might not happen again for years - some came back just in time for Thomas' great goal.

@torchomatic delighted that you have recovered. I lost my best mate a month ago today from cancer and it was poignant seeing him pop up on the Facebook memory today from our day at Wembley. What was so lovely was just seeing so many happy people from Cov all day. Memories to treasure along with that friendship.

It really was the marking of a new era, since relegation from the top flight it had all been pretty depressing really. I always kind of see this moment as the rebirth of the club.

Speaking of era's this is how I define the last 30 years of supporting the club

1992 - 2001 The Premier League years
2001 - 2012 Post-Premier League blues (the lost era)
2012 - 2017 The wilderness years
2017 - 2024 The great Sky Blue rebirth

2025 onwards feels like we are at the beginning of a new era, something positive with crowds being as big as they are and a realistic desire to return to the Premier League

I was at Warwick hospital as my daughter arrived during the morning and my Cov top and Wembley ticket was with me just incase we made it out in time......I carried her out of the hospital and the game kicked off literally as we were leaving the car park !!
Dropped the Wife & daughter at home with the family turning up and made a dash to the pub for the 2nd half
Have the unused ticket framed with a program and Cov top ready for her when she's older - just missing a flag for the final piece (annoyingly misplaced in house move)

Been thinking about these Wembley visits. They have coincided with some really poor kits. In fact the only really decent kit we've worn at Wembley was the only one we lost.

16/17 - by far the worst kit we've ever had
86/87 - our greatest ever team being forced to wear blue and white stripes. Disrespectful. We'd have looked so good winning the cup in the Umbro or Hummel kits that straddled that season.
87 Charity Shield - beautiful kit
17/18 - Blue and white fucking stripes again, which is bad enough, but made even worse by the Allsopp logo
22/23 - Ok this one wasn't too bad although not a fan of central badges
23/24 - fucking blue and white stripes again!

IF we make it this year we'll finally take the field in a proper sky blue shirt. Although I will still moan about the white shorts.

I got 6 tickets for a friend, and remember clicking on the seats on the website, so that they could all sit together - too late, realised I had put them all in a column, rather than in a row. Took some explaining (but had a laugh about it after!)
