It'd be 13 teams then as Rotherham would be in there too.

If there's not time to play those games maybe we can just promote everyone and have 39 teams in the Championship. Makes about as much sense.

If I understand the proposal, points would be in the following statistical average
Coventry (1.97 ppg)
High - (1.97 + 0.12411 = 2.09411)
Low - (1.97 - 0.107365 = 1.862635)

Rotherham (1.771 ppg)
High - (1.771 + 0.111573 = 1.882573)
Low - (1.771 - 0.0965195 = 1.6744805)

Wycombe (1.735 ppg)
High - (1.735 + 0.109305 = 1.844305)
Low - (1.735 - 0.0945575 = 1.6464425)
That means only we would get automatic promotion because our low ppg is higher than Wycombes high ppg, but rotherham's isn't

They said the top two would go up automatically, no idea why. Mad proposal that won't happen.

To give them their dues at least they've come up with a solution unlike DM just moaning the whole time. It is batshit and only there to save Tranmere but at least they've done something. It would be better if the clubs fighting relegation had to play in a playoff but they they wouldn't get the votes. Like I said though, won't happen anyway.

I took that to mean that only teams in the automatic places after the formula was applied would get promoted, but it doesn't matter as it's a stupid idea anyway.
c)Teams in the automatic promotion spots even where the margin for error is applied, should be automatically promoted;

I think they need one more win to be mathematically safe from the most in form team of League1 - Tranmere.

The way their defence socially distance themselves they're not likely to get it

Why the last 3 seasons, why not 5 or 10? You'd end up with a huge tournament replacing the play offs followed by a season with extra teams in some divisions when you're likely to have less time to play it!

Problem is if you start going down this road every club will put up different ways of calculating things that suit them best, no chance of everyone agreeing.

Fuck it let's go all the way back to 48 B.C.

So what they’re saying is “How accurate would a PPG calculation taken at this stage of the season have been in the past?”

You take the average of the difference between the PPG calculation after game 34/35 and the final points tally for the last few seasons. This gives you a margin of error, any team that is promoted/playoffs/relegated by more than that margin would get that. Everyone within the margin of the playoffs goes into a tournament. Everyone within the margin of safety (Tranmere) stays up.

City would go up under it. You can’t produce a table because there’s no final places, everyone has an error bar that could move them up/down. Well you could say it’s the PPG table, but with different cut off points for promotion/relegation that depend on the PPG of teams around you.

City would be promoted, 2 to where ever would Play a tournament for the last two places. Southend and Bolton go down.

Yeah I had a look at that the other week, think I posted it on this thread.

The more I see this stuff the more convinced I am that we can get into the Premiership after only a few seasons in the Championship.

Sure Tranmere can come up with a statistical case for us being promoted straight into the PL from League 1

Sounds like Tranmere are conceding the principle of PPG, so are trying to find a variant that keeps them in the League. Regardless of whether it is bonkers or not, this could be good news

I'm definetly enjoying the scepticism you have about what's being said but there is an underlying issue here that I don't believe is being picked up on.

How on Earth are these people generating their own system of evaluation for how well they are doing in the league?

Edit:

I am not going on about present circumstances but in the league usually. There just seems to be a lack of foundation where you can place building blocks on with what has been said recently.

Is there a method yet which would mean we skip the Championship and get promoted into the Premiership this season? How about PPPPGPG (points per points per game per game)?

Hearts have come up with a proposal in Scotland to have 14 team leagues. By some coincidence, that proposal would mean they aren’t relegated.

LOL

“Under both average points per game and our predicted table, Tranmere are the final side to drop to League Two - in 67.5% of models, Rovers finish third from bottom.”

WHERE IS YOUR MATHS GOD NOW TRANMERE??

I do have some sympathy with Tranmere - they’d likely have stayed up but in the end there is no perfect solution and there will be winners and losers out of this

Tranmere's proposal is seriously strange and makes elections for countries with dictatorships, where they gain 110% of the vote look positively fair. :woot:

Isn't it strange though, a few weeks ago Sky supposedly did a similar exercise and had us winning only one of our remaining games and finishing 3rd. Experts!!

This is what iv been using all season to keep track of things.

Tranmere for example have a 63% chance of being relegated. Next closes is Wimbledon with 19%

League One Predictions

I don't understand their world ranking mind you. its all based on their SPI. So we are ranked quite low compared to other league 1 teams who score more.
