This has turned into an even bigger farce, if the vote is to carry on in LG1 but then say the Championship went PPG in the end, what would happen to the next season start dates? Release of fixtures etc...it’s been handled badly compared to other countries it seems.

I'm starting to think we will be playing on the longer this is drawn out(up to a point of course) don't have the same faith I did the other day, the EFL have faffed around so much.
Oh well wait and see I suppose

The delay isn’t a concern in all honesty. It shows the EFL are not making a rash decision...something which would count against them in any appeal if it was done quickly.

it’s frustrating but a bit of time isn’t a bad thing. Clubs challenging the decision will have to overcome the hurdle of a democratic vote by the league and also the unforeseen circumstance of whats happened (force majeure) which won’t be easy to challenge.

In the same way as clubs throwing 300-500k at a season that’s finished with the next season so uncertain (which they wouldn’t with common sense)...why would you commence a legal battle in the same regard? Even posh have said they wouldn’t pursue it because at the end of the day...the EFL controls the league and is doing it by the book (despite how slow and frustrating it is)

Like most things unfortunately in this country. The majority of people from all the political parties and in positions of authority are either self serving, incompetent or both.

I am puzzled how the clubs with absolutely nothing to play for will behave were the season be played out. Like say Shrewsbury - who we would play first up I believe. How motivated? What strength side? Will they give a f**k? Or even be resentful at having to play 9 games they don't want. You have a feeling they might roll over, in which it will become a farce, and increasingly so as more teams get added to list of those with nothing to play for. Not even any fans you feel an obligation to to motivate the players.
That's key for me. Why would sides with nothing to play for want to extend player contracts etc.? They'll just put in reserve/youth players.
No difference in fielding weakened sides for financial reasons if players can't be forced to play if they have Covid related concerns.

The Huddersfield owner has said 50 or 60 clubs are in danger of going bust. No matter how strongly you felt about PPG / promotion & relegation would you want to be the one taking action against the EFL which causes the league to collapse?

I've always wondered, the ratio of MPs or Councillors that end up in prison because of their professions appossed to other professions in their walks of life.

I would imagine it to be high.

I know someone will answer this

Disclaimer: I am ignoring the ones that should be jail

I think what he should do is start his own league, Peterborough District then he might stand a chance of winning then he can compete in the County Cup.

According to the Daily Mail EFL clubs have to notify the EFL of their voting intentions by tomorrow, Tuesday.

It sounds like "bluster" from Darragh, as any Barrister would be able to make a case to him suggesting he pursues this. As they'll pick up some easy cash for representing him at £800 per hour with little prospect of success. However, nice little earner for the legal profession.

General rule is both sides going into a civil case believe they are onto a winner based on legal advice.
So 50% of the time legal advice must be wrong

Stuff like this. plus im sure a few stronger words

You’ve got some cheek to be posting this, whilst in the background your board of directors - in breach of their fiduciary duties - are trying to force through a retrospective rule change (which is prohibited under article 14.5 of the EFL articles of association in any event) which will forcibly relegate Tranmere Rovers, despite there being 10 games left to play, oh, and the EFL are trying to do it by ordinary resolution (51%) rather than by special resolution (>75%) as is required by article 13, and without having given the requisite notice to member clubs in accordance with that same article 13. Shame on you.

An absolute disgrace if you relegate Tranmere.. on good form when the league stopped, had to play clubs above us, better players back from injury.. If you want play off to go up how about play off not to go down ??

@efl I can not believe you have posted this!!! How insensitive, especially when you are trying to force through a retrospective rule change which will relegate @tranmererovers. We had just won 3 away games in a row, have a game in hand and, as in previous seasons, were on our way up and in great form following returns from injury and recruitment during during the January tfr window. I echo everything that @southernswa1 and every other Tranmere Rovers fan has said.

Most legal positions rely on precedent (ie based on what has been judged and accepted before)

It may well be that COVID is deemed an “Act of God” which usually trumps precedent.

It could (and I’m not sure technically) also the depend if the case is appealed to a higher arbitrator (ie UEFA) and which jurisdiction they base their law and how they class Force Maj. I won’t mention Brexit and the relationship between EU law and U.K. law changing.

Then it might be different for player contracts versus the EPL and EFL.

As I’ve said before. A complete legal minefield. The Peterborough chap won’t have anything concrete up his sleeve because no one can really call the legal situation at the moment.

bluster.

The lovable Mark Palios issued a statement on their website last week saying that Tranmere were “the form side in league one” and were against any early end to the season because we were “mid season”. Thus to protect the sporting integrity of the league TRFC would vote to continue and if that wasn’t possible want the season null and voided.

Of course he neglected to mention the fact that they’ve dug up the pitch...

Is there any difference in that than DMac blocking people from his Twitter ? Assuming that some fans got too emotional in their arguments or the responses from other fans were vitriolic, surely the EFL have every right to stop further damage ?

Act of God was an argument I put forward a couple of weeks ago when he started his throwing toys out of his pram. This was totally unexpected and unlike the regularly quoted WWII scenario, we'd almost finished the season, not just 3 weeks in, players being called up for National Service and with an unknown duration and human cost ahead of us.

got no chance of suing individual clubs.
Clubs instructed by EFL to vote.
Can't get sued for how they vote.
Or if a club is forced into admin due restart do they sue Peterborough & others that voted to resume?

So (according to transfermarkt) 185 out of 621 registered league 1 players are out of contract June 30th. Say 30%. Plus technically all loanee contracts finish May 31st- nearly 100 players.
Championship around 25% out of contract with another nearly 100 loan contracts.
some currently would be offered extensions until end of season plus 1 month's severance pay. Not a great deal for the players who need to be finding new clubs. Wonder how many won't be keen to extend because of injury-risk. Playing 2 games a week obviously increases risk of injury.

Isn't there a rule that you can't start a league season while taking legal action against the EFL? Think that's what they used when Leeds wanted to take them to court.

If so is he happy for the club to drop out of the league completely so he can sue them?
