Was a great finish yesterday, fair play to him

Always felt that both Sheaf and Eccles should be capable of scoring a lot more goals. Josh is starting to do it now (credit to Lampard I imagine) but I'm not sure that Ben ever will. Has to be a mental thing.

I always felt it was mental of him even to even go for pot shots, with us both knowing (Sheaf and I) that the ball would sail at least 25 ft over the bar every time.

Yes, bizarre from someone like Sheaf who can clearly ping a ball with fantastic accuracy. Just loses his composure when the goal is in sight.

Josh showed yesterday that you don't need to belt the leather off the ball.

He has the talent and versatility to play in any of the three CM midfield roles. Not sure why people were dismissive of my suggestion that he could feasibly fill in for Grimes if needed. I hope he sticks around next season and beyond.

I'm a big fan of his and think too many of our supporters under rate him but I just couldn't see him in the Grimes role.

Playing in a deeper role, yes. But sitting where Grimes does and being the fulcrum of almost everything we do, I can't see it.

I think a player who would do a better job of it than Eccles would cost quite a lot of money - more money than I’d be prepared to spend on a backup six months before a likely promotion.

Never really pung it did he? His goal was more strokes curler into the top corner. Grimes is the same but worse he can take a pin point set piece but can seem to get his knee over the ball when shooting.

If he can shake the injury or whatever is curtailing his time on the pitch missing pre season according to Frank yesterday.

TBF fair to Josh he's always had it in him, I'm not necessarily saying it's down to lampard myself, he's always had the technique.

It's funny really because he said something similar about Torp, as in the player's belief of his best position wasn't what he necessarily saw or wasn't the only position he could play

It’s like Lampard came in and swapped the two.

The way Eccles plays AM kinda reminds me of how COH could play there. Eccles doesn’t necessarily carry the ball like Grimes or Torp does, but he is comfortable receiving the ball in tight spaces and keeping possession, which is an underrated quality when in the opposition third. Now, he’s getting in the box for headers and he’s getting opportunities to shoot and the new position change has let him show his technique in more dangerous areas. He’s scoring well with pass accuracy % and cross % which is why I think he’ll do well when gets in RW positions.

I’ve certainly been more a sceptic of Eccles in the past and whilst I don’t believe he’s ’top end’ in the same way Grimes is at CM or Rudoni at AM, he’s a good player.

It’s quite interesting that Jimmy mentioned we were keeping tabs on a ‘European midfielder’, perhaps that’s because Lampard backs Eccles to make AM his primary position.

I find it fascinating. Like if he was down five a side he’d be taking the piss at everything. O’Hare was similar until just before his move IIRC. Fox was saying on the radio how MvE and JDS won’t shoot either.

Fox might have been my favourite CCFC left back. We probably had better in the Prem although none are sticking out, but I was just an absolute sucker for his left foot.

Those free kicks and some of the edge of the are goals were something else. Good shout we’ve generally had quite a bum deal with LBs over the years compared to RBs where three of my all time favourite players (Borrows Nilsson and MvE) have played.

O'Hare has more of an excuse though, because for all his neat skills he can't really strike a ball

Yeah Grimes is a mystery because he really should be striking Torp style long shots. And has such great technique generally.

MVE has scored a decent number to be fair and opened his account with a direct free kick. Not looked at stats to confirm but think he has been taking fewer shots at goal, presumably by instruction.

I suspect they’ve been told to try and fashion easier chances in front of goal but are still dialling in that instinct.

MvE strikes a good ball for sure although I've noticed he's ballooning shots way more recently. Think Kesler would get a few if he played more, I've said before there are things he does better than MvE and i think he'd be a bit of a favourite if he played regularly. Unfortunately for him he's sitting on the bench as MvE is the best RB in the division comfortably.

I really wouldn’t be against Kesler being rotated with Sakamoto, think it’d be interesting.

Though with these Lampardisms, he’ll probably be deployed in the Grimes role and smash it.

KKH has a left foot that isn’t just for standing on so will score far more cutting in I think

Exactly that. He's also very calm in and around the area when it comes to trying to work the position to get a shot away.

Mve before he signed seemed to score a few in the Dutch league, he can hit a decent shot and it's frustrating how he seems reluctant to sometimes

Exactly how I feel.

Previous season's he'd shown he's got a decent shot but recently he's starting rushing and snatching at shots when he has taken them.
