Reinventing himself under Lampard who clearly thinks he should be playing higher up the pitch. Another well taken goal today, and another Lampard-ism that few saw coming but makes more sense with each game.

Fair play to both, especially as Eccles had appeared to be out of favour last season.

I can't remember if it was Robins or Viveash, but one of them (maybe both) said he could play further forward.

His ability in a high press out of possession has been a real revelation, especially considering I couldn’t see him being anything other than a DCM pre Lampard

I always said Eccles was a much better footballer than given credit for (I have mentioned that assist v Leeds that showed it). Good for him that he's contributing. Today's was an absolutely superb finish that he is probably unlikely to have been in position to have or actually executed 12 months ago.

Interesting to hear Lampard’s comments that he saw the attributes for Eccles to play a more advanced role, but the man himself disagreed and thought he was a 6. It looked an odd move at first but with each game it’s looking more like the right call.

It's funny really because he said something similar about Torp, as in the player's belief of his best position wasn't what he necessarily saw or wasn't the only position he could play

Eccles has always been a brilliant CM. Robins thought so, Adi thought so and now Lampcard thinks so, however some people don’t quite like him because he came from our academy. Strange

Still think he could be quicker in his thought by a touch and a bit crisper in his hitting on the ball but always thought he has great vision and range. One of his best games for us today I thought. Took his goal really well and if Rudi wasn’t desperate to score would probably have had another if it had been squared.

It was a brilliant goal. Calm and placed it bottom corner from outside the box, made it look simple.

Sheaf used to put them in the car park.

We’ve got Matty Grimes for that now.

Blokes class. I’ve said this a few times over the years so apologies for repeating but I really think he’s a victim of being a youth player. If we had signed him for £5M everyone would rate him but the truth is that he’s always been underrated. The start of last season he was virtually the only player that could hold their head high. Proper decent championship midfielder.

The Sheaf lovers are cowering, but he's stepped up massively in the last few weeks. One of our own, and better than most give credit for. Wouldn't expect him to play much, like Simms, in a way, but they've both absolutely proved themselves.

The laughable analogy about a player who's been a constant in recent seasons and seasons that have seen success and progression that he's a "league 1 player at best " is now being shown to be ridiculous.
Josh has always given his all in various positions and been a key figure in many of our best performances in recent seasons .
Would also go as far to say losing him after his impact in last seasons playoff semi cost us the game as he was sensational that night

Love the way Eccles collected the ball, looked up, picked his spot, then just nonchalantly passed the ball into the net.

Top draw finish.

I guess when you have an ex player like Lampard talking and showing confidence in you you tend to sit up and take notice

That goal yesterday was top class. You can really see the impact of a Lampard’s coaching in Eccles. I think we’ve got elite coaching now from Frank and his team , supported by all the fitness and performance science stuff. It’s really getting the very best out of our players to win games, compared to coaching that’s about using what we got

Eccles has a much much higher ceiling than people give him credit for and proving it this season.

Still more to come from the lad I feel.

Him and Torp are very good finishers.
You could argue Eccles doesn't score enough but I think he'd put that right with a run in the team.

He probably would have been the one to drop out for rudoni had saka been fit I think it's fair to say so it shows the depth we have in the squad in certain positions. Playing well the more game time he gets.

He has the talent and versatility to play in any of the three CM midfield roles. Not sure why people were dismissive of my suggestion that he could feasibly fill in for Grimes if needed. I hope he sticks around next season and beyond.

Always felt that both Sheaf and Eccles should be capable of scoring a lot more goals. Josh is starting to do it now (credit to Lampard I imagine) but I'm not sure that Ben ever will. Has to be a mental thing.
