I think of Eccles a bit like Jordan Shipley. Comes to a point when we need better if we want to get to the next level.

I’m happy for him to go. A good squad player If he’s not disgruntled but I hear he is and I think Robins would take him. I think we’ve outgrown him with talent we’ve brought in

Great squad player, reliable , league experience, can play in a few positions , would stupid to get rid of him in my opinion. You would hope working with someone like Lampard, would take his game to the next level

Not really sure he’s that type of player where as Rudoni is. Eccles has 5 goals in some 130/140 odd appearances.

For those with short memories, it’s worth re-watching last season’s FA Cup Semi Final: in the first half, Eccles skipped between Rashford and Wan Bissaka with a lovely bit of skill / quick feet, to burst into the box.

It’s a good indication of what he can do, but he just doesn’t do with enough consistency. If he works hard, he should be able to address that though.

Earlier in the season, I thought he was about the only player in the side who was performing to standard. I think we would be mad to let such a versatile player go, unless the money was right.

I’d fight to keep him for two reasons. Firstly he’s a top notch championship midfielder. Secondly he can cover RB - about the only one who can. Why on earth would we want rid?

A top notch player would surely be starting in our team? Seems Frank has both Torp and Allen ahead of him ability wise. Eccles seems a great lad and I would not begrudge him a move to Stoke etc as he needs to play to reach his potential.

Agreed he is not an attacking midfielder like Rudoni. But he can cover rwb and has not looked out of place when played there before. He’s an intelligent footballer.

Dear Mr King

I noticed today in the training pictures released by CCFC that a lot of the players were smiling. Why are they smiling after losing on Friday?

Disgusted from Warwick.

Early in the season we were absolutely threadbare there. He may currently not be first choice. But he could still be incredibly valuable to us

Eccles is a perfectly capable midfielder at this level and is probably on a favourable (to us) contract, but as the current 6th choice midfielder you would expect him to move on in the summer.

Its all relative. Why micro zoom on to one player when none of them are really good enough. Let's take our top three candidates Rudoni, Wright and MVE.

Rudoni a maybe? Wright and MVE I can see being wanted abroad rather than Premier League. Dovin maybe in 2 or 3 years.

The rest are nowhere near the level Premier League Clubs are looking for.

Let's look at the real whole picture rather than highlight certain individuals.

Because Frank would rather play Lati there than Eccles I guess

I like Eccles, he's never been a player to hide.
If we can improve on any player, I'd be happy to let go, but I think there are other positions that probably need strengthening over central midfield which would take priority for me

I'd keep him. Plays in a number of positions and does a decent job in all of them. Played mainly off the bench for Lampard and personally I rate him above Allen.

Unfortunately we need to improve on defence/midfield and certainty up front as well as possibly a new goalkeeper so add to the squad with quality so we don't have to worry about feckin play offs

Tonight showed that Josh is a top end championship midfielder, thought he was superb both in defense and progressive passing . Could be the perfect partner for Grimes next season on tonights showing

I thought Eccles had a really good cameo tonight, with his injury unfortunately coming from a vital block. Probably depends whether Sheaf stays, but I don't think its a certainty that Eccles will leave in the Summer.

I wouldn't. What do the 3 parachute clubs have that the majority of the rest of the league doesn't? Squad depth. 2 or 3 decent players for every position. Not only for injury purposes but for competition too. We've got 6 top class midfielders and for one reason or another, 5 of them played tonight. We all know Sheaf is injury prone, Allen blows hot and cold amd Torp can doubtful do a full season. In our midfield 6 we've got, imo, the strongest midfield squad in the league. Why get rid of a player that will happily ride his time, won't be costing the earth in wages, and can throw in a cameo like he did tonight if and when called upon. Keep the midfield 6 (Grimes, Sheaf, Allen, Torp, Eccles, and Rudi) and that's you're entire engine room sorted for the longevity of the season. At points this season we've had Torp, Sheaf, Rudi and Eccles injured. A few at the same time too. Why lose that depth? If we need to lose dead wood, Lats, Binks, Simms, BTA, Rapheal are all in the queue ahead of Eccles.
Keep that midfield 6. Bring in a decent CH (i read today Callum Doyle will be available on a free, imagine what a coup that would be) a RB (again, Cyrus Christie is also available on a free unless I've missed something?) as I think we need to lose one of MVE or Rudi to make funds. And 2 strikers. EMC and Saka are good enough if they had somebody in the middle better than Wright and/or Simms.
For me, a RB, a CH and 2 strikers. That's what we need IF we can keep this squad together and not get picked apart by the vultures coming down with parachute payments.

I'm not saying we lose squad depth, I'm saying let him go and bring in someone fresh. We don't have a proper replacement for Rudoni, so we could let Eccles or Allen go and replace them for someone more attacking for example.
