Every team needs a steady eddy, e.g Nicky Butt, Makalele, Declan Rice. Josh Eccles is our Steady Eddy. He needs creative players around him as do the players I mentioned.

Yeah but whenever a midfielder is a bit average they get hailed as a water carrier now. Deschamps was an excellent player, not just an average midfielder among better players.

these two posts sum up the situation perfectly in my eyes - he’s not amazing, he’s not awful, he’s a decent midfielder who does a decent job for us

he has the odd good game and the odd bad game, and the rest are somewhere in between
