Even Duffy may have to finally accept Andy Thorn is a good manager. Assuming that you can't have two honeymoons in one marriage.

You just don't have a team playing away with Christie, Ruffles, Thomas and Bigi in the first 11 like away at palace. You have a team with one or two of them max and the likes of Mcdonald on the bench and AT has a chance to work his magic

Come on boys have a tiny tiny piece of humble pie.

Season isn't over yet.

I can't speak for Duffy or Nick. All I can say is that have already said I am delighted that Thorn has turned it round, but we could still go down of course.

I can't say I would blame either Duffy or Nick in waiting to see how the season pans out.

If we do go down questions will be asked of the manager. That is the nature of the beast. I have faith now though that we can stay up. In fact, we should stay up from this position and the fixtures we have left.

I am more than happy that we are getting results and we are on a good run and I have said in other threads fair play Thorn is now doing a decent job.

However, it just shows that he was doing a pretty poor job before and making mistakes. If it is ok to praise when he wins then it is fine to say he messed up when he does.

It is the same as Clarke, I said he was awful last season. This season he has played well and the last few games been outstanding.

Just glad we got an away win

Come on; AT was a manager with no experience. I suspect this was at the root of all the negative comments. He is obviously gaining the experience "on the job" and thankfully seems to be learning from his mistakes.

Everybody can see that he did make mistakes. I think even he'd admit it. But he was learning and sometimes the only way to learn is from mistakes. The thing I think got some people was that we didn't have the squad to give a rookie time to learn his trade - or so it seemed at Christmas. We're not safe yet though, we need to push on from here.

I don't think it was mistakes. He was finally allowed to sign a couple of loanees to replace a couple of the players SISU let go.
A couple of senior players have stayed injury free and suddenly Thorn is achieving the same as last season. That can't be coincidence.
You can't ignore the fact he was successfulbefore he lost his top players. He has been allowed to sign two loanees. They have settled in now and the other signing is back from injury. Surprise surprise we are winning.
It sounds weird but there are certain circumstances in which you can be losing and still be doing a good job as a manager.
I think SISU provided those exact circumstances moments such as putting directors on the bench. Selling our top striker in January instead of waiting 4 months. Not submitting our books in a timely fashion so we can't sign other loanees.
Failing to convince 3 players in contract negotiations....

Last thing that's needed after this much needed win is for you to turn round and rub faces in being 'wrong'. It makes it come across as though Duffy/Nick wanted us to lose games in order to prove a point.

I think he was making glaring errors at the start, tactics that didn't suit the team and no discipline. Completely agree that he is learning, though having that extra quality helps ofc. but the fact he took so long to change a formation we knew was wrong shows he's had to learn and adapt

This. Exactly this! We looked certain to have a relegation struggle anyway and I think people quite rightly asked the question, was a novice, rookie manager really what we needed at the helm and were we in a position to allow him time to learn his trade?

Why can't we now all just pull in the same direction though rather than start discussing who is right and who is wrong?

Today is a day of celebration. The first away win and the first time since October that we have been out of the bottom 3. Why are some people trying to do some point scoring?

Let's just all celebrate the fact that we now have a very realistic chance of staying up and we surely now have to feel very, very confident of a win against Peterborough at home next Saturday!!

Everyone wants success for the team. People will have different opinions regarding players and managers. It is silly to suggest that if the team stays up people who criticized the manager wanted that to happen. It suggests those who are critical want us to lose to prove a point. This is silly. My stance has always been if the team survives then the manager should be rewarded with a contract extensor and if that is achieved he will if you like proved me wrong as I have never suggested the team is more than a team that should be anything above the bottom six or seven. If we do stay up no one will be happier than me.

Yes exactly! Everybody just wants the best for the team. Today was massive but I was honestly completely confident we'd get the result today!

Have to say I am now very optimisitic about Peterborough next week.

To be quite honest, can't think of a better team to play. A team in midtable, nothing to play for and a leaky defence that has let in 64 goals in 40 games.

Tis a match made in heaven to be honest. Not saying it will be easy, but surely this is exactly the sort of fixture we need right now. They will probably already have one eye on their Summer holidays and some golden tropical beach.

If we are on our mettle and full of fight and spirit I can only see this game going one way.

Of course I don't think they wanted us to lose. Don't be so silly. They seem like top blokes who generate great interesting debates on here.
We have crossed opions about AT as a manager.
I would like to think that they have a bit more about them than to to think about in such a childish manner.
From my debates I have had with them on here I am pretty sure they would not take it that way. I certainly hope so anyway

I really hope so. I totally agree that it's exactly the sort of game we would have asked for but it's those games we normally come away with disappointment! Having said that, I'm totally confident we'll be "on it"!

We are now in fantastic form. No slip ups and not losing. Last two games not even a single goal conceded.

I have said all along if we survive he deserved a new deal. Results for me are the defining factor. What I could never understand was the views of people who said he deserved an extension if we are relegated. I have always though the squad able to survive. I believe in reward and recognition. So stay up reward the manager another year.

However, I have just read a thread calling thorn the new Jimmy hill. That is almost offensive to the greatest man in this clubs history. Why would anyone seriously make the comparison. Senseless.

My main concern is that we dont just judge AT by wins and defeats.
I think SISU create a unique challenging environment, in which a manager can succeed whilst still losing, as mad as that sounds.

I think we have a real gem on our hands in Andy Thorn.

I think SISU will possibly sell all of his senior pros again. Hence if he does manage to keep us up, we are looking at the possibility of losing a lot of future games. We may then turn on Thorn without looking at the real source of the problem and then we lose a top manager.

That is my own personal opinion and know it will not be supported by many. However I hate the constant merry go round of managers.
I like Thorn, I like the way he gets Cov playing football and I would be so dissapointed to lose him.

Hence why I defend him in these debates.

In todays footballing climate we will probably never get to see the likes of him again, unfortuantely.
