Driving down to London on the day..... (1 Viewer)

When I do a trip to the smoke I usually park at Hendon in a side street and get the tube into the centre.
Anyone got any tips on free parking north of Wembley up to before Watford and getting an underground/overground (wombling free) from any station on the way . Which is the best station to aim for above Wembley ?

Whenever I've driven I've parked in Neasden. Street is called Vincent Gardens. It's about 5 mins to Wembley Park from Neasden station, and it's right on the boundary of the parking restrictions. Also a decent pub on the high street for food.

Doesn't Watford itself now have a tube station.

Potentially park at Watford junction and get the overground which I'm sure stops near Wembley, or use the tube from Watford (which isn't at Watford Junction, but not too far away)

There is a 'tube' that starts at Watford Junction. It's the start of the line. It's an overground tube and you can get off at Wembley Central.

You can then walk from there.

I have a very old car so I don't mind getting it vandalised and having paint thrown over it , as happens frequently in that part of London

We went down for a concert last summer and parked on a resident of Wembley's drive for £10. 10 minute walk from stadium. People advertise on here if interested;

Well you make a good point. I don't know what the cost is, but if there are indeed 40,000 travelling down to London, you can be bound sure that many, many fans will be going by car and be of the same notion to go and park there at Watford Junction.

People certainly need to think about the volume of traffic heading down that way and the requirement for parking spaces.

Just checked. Watford Junction car park has 762 spaces.

Err..... good luck with that.

It states that on a weekday the car park is usually full by 8am.

Now imagine thousands of Coventry City fans all heading down that way by car on the Sunday.

Going to need careful planning and several plan B's I think for alternative places to park.

Watford Junction car park cost is £11.40 for the day at weekends.

We were invited by our Cambridge supporting family to go with them to Wembley for their play-off final game in May 2014. We parked in the Stanmore station car park and caught the train to Wembley. Stanmore was easy to get to by road and the train ride couldn't have been much more than half n hour. It's a good size car park at the station and there was another car park just up the road. OK, it's not free but it was secure and easy. I would recommend it.

We parked there for the England Scotland game last Autumn. Its really easy to get to Wembley from there too.

If Stanmore is full (likely) go round the corner to Canons Park. Both are £2 all day and are 1 & 2 on the Jubilee. Btw if you're going into London first get the Bakerloo back and get off at Wembley Central. Pubs are better there than Wembley Park.

Watford and Watford Croxley Green have a station which is on the purple line (no good with the line names ). I used the WCG one when I went to see the Killers at Wembley a few years back.

Seemed a lot less less crammed than the lines going back tobeuston on the way back which was good but still had to get through the crowds getting into Wembley Park.

That or Stanmore on the grey / silver line which again was quieter when on the tube

The purple line is my favourite.

I am also partial to the orange line and the red polka dot one.

Anyone parked at Beaconsfield and got train into Wembley Stadium? I have gone to Stanmore and got the tube in but getting back on the tube afterwards has been a nightmare. In 1987 the trains from Coventry went direct to Wembley Stadium and the queues afterwards took ages but I haven't seen anything about special trains being put on this time.

We are parking at gerrards cross. Last junction off the m40 before the m25. Train takes 14 mins to Wembley stadium. Done it many times before works a treat.

Park at Canons Park round the corner. One stop closer to Wembley. Probably easier to get back on the M1. £2, like Stanmore. Only difference is the lack of that arsehole of an entry/exit. Miles easier at CP.

Got a great scam, telling people I have a private drive near the ground, so far 28 cars are parking on it at £12 a go, will pay for for my 6 tickets LOL

There is a decent amount, shouldn't have a problem getting parked especially on a Sunday morning. trains from Wembley stadium are well organised, they will defiantly have more than 2 trains an hour, usually on event days its every 10-15mins.

I parked for the England v Scotland game in November at chalk hill primary school. 10 min walk to the ground and easy access in and out of Wembley. Location is behind Wembley Park station and near food outlets along with an Asda. Well worth it for £15 but book on line in advance as it's very popular.
