Interesting. But this bit is bollocks:

Speaking to the Telegraph, he said: “Ray wanted to have control of the players. But I just wouldn’t accept that. So we went our own ways.

He got sacked because we'd gone on a horrendous run where we picked up something like 8 points from 14-15 games and were in free fall.

I quite liked Dowie here. Also remember his Palace side putting in one of the best I ever have seen here at home. They totally outplayed us, playing the most delightful football in the process. Think it was 5-1? Maybe 4-1.

If this is true it's ridiculous. I believe you have to let the manager decide. As a chairman you can say yay and nay, but you bring in the manager and you have to give him a bit of leeway in his judgement.

Agreed . but what's the point in having a manager if he's not allowed to bring in players he wants ?

He was never a hero. Hes responsible for bringing these clowns in and when they showed their true colours he bailed out never to be seen again.

I always thought at the time the conflict between Dowie and Ransome was transfer targets and the type of player who would come into the club.

I saw Dowie as wanting established players and Ransom wanting tomorrow's stars who had more of an investment return.

Can't blame it all on Ranson. Might have wanted to be hands on then but t a lot of time has passed since his departure and we've seen little change so it can't have been the crux of the issue

On another note, Fletchers hair back in the day

I'd have him back at Coventry in a heart beat.

I wouldn't. he had more cash than any other SISU era manager and although he bought some decent players he also signed some shocking ones.

Not long after he sacked Dowie he came out of the casino on his own. A group of us were outside and I said " Ray when are you going to sort this mess out ? "
He never spoke but when he drove past in his motor he wound down his window and gave a one finger sign.
We laughed but one fan shouted abuse at him so he's a bit of a charmer then !

He was good at the start with all good intentions etc, but fell short , he cannot use Ransom as the scapegoat. He knew what he was coming into surely.

His team had gone an horrendous run but with Fox and Dann who were Dowie signings in all but name, we might have picked up. He certainly made a great signing in Best. His tenure as manager is memorable for some superb away wins (Utd, Stoke, WBA, Blackburn). We weren't great at home TBH.
