Dovin gives the impression of being quite shy, introverted and lacking in self confidence. He’s young and this might alter as he gains experience but right now its not helping him.

Don't understand what others are seeing. I think he looks very very promising

Yeah not seeing this, silly mistake and needs to be more vocal but thought he had a good game against Preston.

We know he’s developing, sadly when you’ve got young players they’ll make cock ups. Just a fact of life

If we'd of won 3-1 like we should of nobody would of said too much about their goal. Plenty of keepers make mistakes, but when your strikers aren't taking their chances they stand out more

Again, if it was Wilson that let the goal in this fake argument about winning 3-1 wouldn't even exist.

It's really weird.

Dovin looks poor for his fee so far.

He's been good apart from the obvious mistake for QPR goal but it was a mistake more than a howler.

Definitely stick with him and let him develop.

Remember standing behind the goal and watching David James start to dive just before the shot was hit...he saved it. Keepers anticipate. The goal at QPR was a fluke.

Aaron Ramsdale is on for his third PL relegation with a few seasons as No. 1 for one of the best sides in the country thrown in. Is he a bad keeper, or is the keeper not actually that significant a position for spending money on?

Was he carrying an injury he wasn't taking the kick outs either or was that tactical just looked strange

In short, yes Ramsdale is a bad keeper. Good with his feet but an below par shot stopper, as the stats show. That's why Arsenal spent more on another keeper in Raya.

Part of the tactics, he has a bigger kick than Binks so if they get pressed hard straight away he can hoof it.

I think Dobin is a promising youngster, nothing more and nothing less.

We need to play him so that he can get more experience and then we will start to see how good or otherwise he will turn out to be.

It would probably help him - and a few of the others - if we could get to a comfortable mid-table position with no pressure of relegation or aiming for the playoffs to worry about.

I really can’t see us making the playoffs this season so perhaps the best thing is to use it as a year in which our new players can bed down and then we can go for it next season.

Obviously this is disappointing because I thought we would be good enough to have a real tilt at the playoffs this season but we are where we are.

The biggest risk is that a number of our players leave us next year but there may be little we can do about that other than spend the incoming transfer fees wisely.

Last season was supposed to be what you're describing. And to be honest that's what I thought it turned out to be, a full season in this league under people's belts, at least some players having made noticeable improvement and better cohesion tactically.

Instead, almost everyone has regressed back to where they started from. In future seasons this will become a textbook case study of what happens when you remove all leaders from a squad.

Their goal was a routine save - those trying to say he couldn't see it so guessed where to go is absolutely moronic

This post is in a time warp. We are in a mess and a real fight right now.
Dovin just seems a strange buy. We already had 2 keepers who were a bit nervous, weak in the air and controlling the box and not very vocal. I just expected someone more assertive.
Hopefully he can develop quick but it was a strange one.

Those are old numbers.

This season Ramsdale is ahead of Raya in goals prevented.

Also Raya is better with his feet, not the other way round.

This is comparing the last full season they both played.

I didn't say Ramsdale was better with his feet, only said he was good with them.

Not seen this season's stats though.

It’s not where anyone wanted us to be. It’s disappointing but we are where we are. I think that, as was the case last year, the players that joined us over the summer need time to bed in.

Some of the players who joined in the summer of 2023 took time to settle down and start performing but most of them did show significant improvement by the second half of the season. Why some of them have gone backwards is a mystery.

I agree with your opening comment. It does rather feel like Deja vu all over again We can only hope for improvement as the season progresses.

Dovin appears to have some talent and I think he is promising. Whether he is what we needed is of course another question altogether.

Last season was very much the big rebuild. I think it was generally accepted over the summer that, if we didn’t go up this season, Van Ewijk, Wright, Simms, Sheaf at the very least were likely to move on. Set aside how they’ve individually started the season; we should have been looking at players who could hit the ground running.

I think in time Dovin will turn out to be a very good keeper. We don’t really have that time unless we want to go through another rebuild, albeit probably not on the same scale as last season. We are where we are now, but someone like Johansson for a similar fee, or Rodak on a free from Fulham, should have been the focus of our targets.

I guess the simple answer is that, provided we stay up, we will be attractive to good players at League 1 teams for whom it will be a step up.

Whether that is what we need is another matter altogether. My concern is that we just end up building a very good League 1 team.

The problem is that we planned on selling a bunch of players for profit next summer. Who’s going to take them playing like this?

Controversial but I don’t think it was that much of a howler. The guy smashes it into the ground. That’s a nightmare for keepers. It’s the same when it’s done with headers. The bigger concern for me was 3-4 times it was clear he wasn’t communicating too well. That will come. The basics are obviously there.

They will still be saleable but we will get less for them than we hoped and I doubt if many - indeed any - will end up in the promised land of the Premiership.

That’s why I think we will be shopping at Poundland for League 1 players, unless we can do good deals with clubs overseas.

Dovin doesn't look anything special at all . I was hoping for better like EMC , he’s not a great upgrade on what we have. He is another bought on advice that our Chairman thought would prove to be a money spinner in a year or two.

It's just insane that we didn't get someone to keep us steady and them honest throughout this season to get the fee's we'll be looking for?

If we’re in League 1 ourselves I’d be impressed if we got £10m for the lot

Oliver had a strange accident yesterday. He is really gutted not to be here today. We made a decision with the medical staff to protect his health - and that comes above anything related to football.
