And which of those injuries could be prevented through more medical work? I'm not sure many could.

Anyway, point is i doubt we were in the top half of the league for injuries

I don’t know the answer to either of those questions.

Think people read too much into it, frankly he isn’t going to come out on a public radio interview and start talking about how much money he’s going to spend on players etc, and how much is in the “kitty” and I’d rather he didn’t either. Soon people will be outraged that he isn’t telling us what players were in talks with and how much we’re paying them.

The problem with increasing the squad size according to DK is the outlay in wages, particularly if our matchday squad is free of injury and the other players are not required. I would have thought that what we should be aiming to do is assemble a squad which can be rotated to cover for tiredness without losing any potency. This is what is needed in order to get promoted. So my guess is that we will be looking for players that can play multiple positions in which case we do not have 2 players for every position apart from GK. Dont necessarily agree with this , but clearly don't have the funds for a big squad so have to rely on good recruitment, good fitness, no serious injuries and MR/MV magic. Wouldn't rule out big investment in the future, our profile would have increased enormously around the world due to the cup run. Remain positive for the future.

Of course it is a positive but it isn't a substitute for squad depth - he apparently chose to answer a question about squad depth with a reference to the medical infrastructure.

It’s a factor in not only preventing injuries but keeping the players fresher or even getting them back sooner.

Again, the point is more people think you can chuck numbers (players) at the problem when perhaps there’s solutions elsewhere. Even if you have a big squad, you don’t want to be paying people wages if they’re injured all the time.

Doug has come in and you’d imagine he’s audited the state of things like medical provisions. The infrastructure must be in a pitiful state if it gets mentioned in every public appearance he does.

See how the summer goes, the proof will be in the pudding judging from our transfer activity. We’re about 7 or 8 players off our 22/23 total if you include the released players and COH from this year.

So reaching a semi final of the fa cup and a play off final under King is not acceptable then? If you are going to be negative at least have a decent argument. So 1 attendance against Chelsea is better than consistently good league attendances under King.

Honestly those slagging his decision making and backtracking have no idea, it is literally the best way to get immediate validation / critique of any decision, announce it or laucnh gather feedback quickly and amend accordingly. It's what any good organisation does whether you're releasing software or running a football club.

A 2 way dialogue where you actively listen to your customers and act accordingly, very refreshing.

What's incredibly boring is the seemingly desperate need for negativity when, in my opinion, there's no reason to be anything but positive and incredibly optimistic about next season and the general direction the club is headed.

Things will never be perfect and it is impossible to keep everyone 100% happy all of the time, but we have an owner with a clear desire to go up and its clear that we feel like a proper club rather than a basket case like we have been most of my lifetime.

Is he perfect? No. But neither are any of us.

Fine line with squad size. We need 18-20 players capable of playing first team football regularly and then ideally supplemented on occasions by younger players. Anymore and you end up with an unhappy bunch of senior players.

Even top sides have fairly modest squads, and if they have 2-3 key injuries it fucks them.

Every manager in football complains about it when it suits them, we’re no different.

Personally I’d rather we sign quality over quantity, and give opportunities to Andrews, Dausch, etc on the odd occasions we might be struggling.

We need a few in the door, but genuinely I think we’d be fine with 4 signings.

Championship - Players used

This statistic shows which club of the Championship in the 24/25 season played the most players (starting eleven ass well as subbed in players).
www.transfermarkt.com

No correlation between number of players used and outcome.

DK on transfers:
As I say to my managerial staff, no comment. What will be will be. We've increased our recruitment team meaningfully. I see their work, I see what we do, I see the areas we're now covering. I see the depth of the analysis we're going into. We fell slightly away, we had some injuries... a big cup run that was draining, for sure it was draining, the way it went. We know all those situations, we want to be competitive. The issue with real depth in anything is if you have too much depth, right, too many players, obviously that adds to your wage bill and they may not play. The issue is they may play if you have a lot of injuries, so we're trying to reduce any injuries and as you've seen we've got all the three pitches now at Ryton are all the same pitches, we know the hardness of them, we're monitoring everything very carefully, we've added the performance director Claire Marie Roberts in, to really make sure that we don't have or try and minimise the injuries and increase our strength and conditioning. For the players next year, look I want us to get promoted. I'm an ambitious man, I'll look at everything properly and if we can get our squad built on from the foundations and nucleus we have today in a great way then we will get on with it. And we're on it right now, believe you me. Way too many calls coming my way. We're chatting about it and we're on it and I want to tell the SBA and all our fans look, we've been here 15 months or so, we've had a couple of great experiences, we haven't quite got where we want to and we're going to try our hardest to get there.

2bh I’m on Doug’s side on the transfers - he’s right, you can have too much squad depth. Take the goalkeepers - Moore must have been on a fair whack and he’s third choice - ideally you want 1 first team, reasonable back up, and. Youth keeper.

Wilson by all accounts is off - so I’d be more than happy to go - new keeper, Collins, Tyler - ideally you’d want 2 good players for each position

new Keeper, Collins, Tyler

right back - MVE, Latibeudiere
CB - Thomas,
CB Kitching
LB - new Left back, DaSilva (if Bidwell is off)

CM - Sheaf, Eccles
CM - Torp, Allen

RW - Sakamoto, Tavares
AM - Palmer - New AM
LW - Wright, EMC

ST - Simms, New Striker.

then you slot in youth players - that should be sufficient, I’d suggest we need

a GK, LB,CBx2, AMC, AMR, ST as a bare minimum - you can then add a CB, RB, CM as supplemental loans

Sums it up in the first line "no comment"

He isn't going to outlay our recruitment plan, that would be a sure fire way to get ripped off. Also no reason to panic over the comments about squad depth, we really don't want a bloated squad. It isn't about sheer numbers of players, you can progress and build a stronger squad by replacing 1st XI players and moving the ones who played this season into backup/support roles, that is still depth.

Massively positive that this regime are looking into why players are getting injured, covering all bases genuinely feels Its the first time supporting Coventry the owner looks engaged and progressive. Little details like this can only be seen as progress.

There’s definitely still dead wood to trim, Moore, arguably Wilson, Kelly, Godden could all be replaced for the same wage with more impact.

Personally though I think we need another 2-3 on top of those going really. We were desperate short in a couple of places at times and even with a full squad lacked options from the bench up front in particularly.

Weren’t people complaining about the medical staff when we kept getting ACL injuries? Improving your infrastructure and medical provision can only be viewed as a positive.

Unless he said ‘we’re not signing any more players’, then you can worry. MR has said that he wants and needs more players and he’s going to get that.

My observation is that a lot of people just want something to complain about.

Robins said that in January and nothing was done about it. Our end to the season proved Robins right and it is concerning if we haven’t learned from that. Anyone can make a mistake but the problem is if you don't learn from it.
