Can't say I was overly impressed but was also about what I expected. I think if Joy had said a lot of the things he said, it would have sent plenty of people into a rage. That said, at least he is communicating. A lot of his answers seemed fairly honest, which basically says, "the budget won't be much better than it is now, I just want to be more efficient with it". I would much rather the honesty than flat out lies but it wasn't exactly inspiring. The biggest thing I took away was, God, he loves Fraser Group. Sounded like a come and get me plea to them.

Some of you guys really think you are comical but as they say sarcasm is the lowest form of wit.

Give the guy a chance. He is a successful business man whereas most on here are not. He's logical which is necessary in football so your heart doesn't rule your head. He wants the best for us moving forward. He spoke well about Robins and the staff. A very positive first news conference.

Just because you(cynics) live in a half empty world doesn't mean everyone else does. I have been coming on this site forever and it is so sad the negativity on here. Why are you judging a person by the way they speak?

My take on this interview is this guy gets on with people, or wants to get on with them. He is not crtical of Ashley, Fraser Group, Joy or anyone else. He wants the best for us, CCFC and the community. Why be disrespectful about a guy who is trying to improve our club?

Didn't listen but the feeling I get from the posts on this thread is that he comes across well and some of the things he said were positive, albeit, we need to take with a slice of scepticism - probably a hangover from the Sisu years.

I guess we've got more from him than what we got from Joy at the beginning (from what I remember). So long as he continues to be open/honest about what's going on, that's a step in the right direction.

Oh, and bring in some players please in the next 10 days. Thanks Doug.

TBF to King (albeit he brought it on himself to an extent) he's getting silly questions such as the one from Andy Turner. "Is the £25m you reportedly bid for the stadium available to spend?" - what sort of answer are you anticipating here Andy?
Don’t see millions to spend. We have some high value players under sisu very little of the fee we got went to Robins for squad strengthening we have to be realistic and the club needs to be run efficiently, but if he got a decent chunk say 70/75% of any incoming fees I can live with that.

Absolute madness - he speaks well on the whole, but that answer alone is enough to call his credibility into question.

I liked the line back to the BBC reporter that if he bought the club would he take over the 60 million debt. "There is no debt" Which leads to how much have SISU actually written off as paper debt and what has he paid for the club?

I like a man’s man as well Bob. Doug is well turned out, inside and out. Nice hair and well moisturised to boot. Only a slight speech issue but who are we to cast aspersions?
ps. There is only one professional comedian on this website, Otis. And he’s gone missing just when we need him!

Overall a decent interview and he was honest. The money is going to be spent on getting to the Prem right now. Not going to be building a new stadium and a new training facility etc. That kind of investment comes if you go up and stay up or get parachute payments. Entirely business sense.

INTERVIEW: Highlights from Doug King's first Coventry City press conference

Coventry City's new majority owner and Executive Chairman, Doug King, held his first press conference since taking over the football club and here are some of the highlights from this afternoon.
www.ccfc.co.uk

"The training ground…

“In general, we need to be a club that the top players are excited to come here, not only for the coaches, but also for the facilities and that they measure up.

“I’m well aware of that, but we have to do what we have to do in the time that we have to do it. When I read all my history, this training ground has been here for 40 years and nobody else has done anything yet.

“So, let’s just take stock, but clearly I would love us to be at a place which is more comparable to where top athletes should be working and spending their time.”

For me this is where the Warwick link will start to make sense over time

True but then he did put his faith in a manager that wasted so much money on players like belly, Freddy, sammy and numerous other shit players he loved putting a y at the end of their name.
After seeing that Sisu stopped investing as they’d lost faith in him and had lost them a shit ton of money for a team languishing in the bottom half every year.
Hopefully with a better manager and Doug been closely involved the same mistakes won’t happen again. Think recruitment will be more sensible.
But time will tell….

Interesting comparison with SISU.

Their starting point generally seemed to be belligerence - "...batter people in court" etc

He seemed to be trying to build bridges.

If you're going to be across the table negotiating with someone, better to start by being polite about them rather than telling the world how you're going to screw them over.

Thought he spoke pretty well to be honest. Other than when he said 'niddy griddy', which sent a shiver up my spine.

Other things to take onboard:

- Some of the questions were stupid and there were one or two interviewers that were seemingly just looking to be important by trying to wind him up. Don't confuse that for hard questioning.
- He seems quite passionate about the game and the team, and I think he will probably be pretty hands on.
- Wants to improve communication which is badly needed.
- Said if a player is unhappy we cannot keep them. Repeated that a couple of times which has raised an eyebrow.
- Goes to the ballet.

Seemed OK to me. Money is there to progress but won’t be chucking millions around seemed to be the message. Early days, see where we are in six months suggests not to expert much this window but more in the summer once everyone got their feet under the table. Good words on the training ground. Sounds like him and robins are aligned.

Not sure what people were expecting really

I liked his tempered ambition if that's the right phrase. He admits the squad is light so we should see some signings if that ambition is legit.

Bit of a weird one really. Not much in there you can really disagree with but not a whole lot to get excited about.

It is what it is I guess, unless a billionaire wants to come in and start throwing money about this is where we are.

Good interview, blue skies ahead. If he came in and started talking about figures, budgets and too many targets he would be a fool. Great business head on his shoulders and a perfect partnership with Robins for the club to move forwards.

I'm not too fussed that there wasn't much of note in that. Like when he first appeared he comes across well and level-headed and doesn't want to go down the route of throwing money at it for the sake of it. Would rather that than a Derby/Sheff Weds etc situation.

I'd also be happy, as boring as it is, if once the transfer window closes he spends a chunk of the budget getting a decent team around Dean Austin. Recruitment is key to a club like us.
