Think it belies a huge ego TBH Pete. He clearly thinks he’s turned us from a lower half champ side to play off contenders and Robins was letting his big project down.

If FL fails then DK is going to look rediculous.

Sacking MR is a very brave move. Get it right and you can say I told you so, get it wrong and the entire support turns against you and your Fooked.

As a ccfc fan rather than a MR fan I hope DK has called this one right, but I can't say I'm not worried.

Love how this thread has posts with wildly different responses, all of which I feel or have felt somewhat even now or over the past few weeks and kind of agree with.

I disagreed with Robins' sacking at this point in the season and still think it's likely to be a big mistake.

Even if it can come across as hypocritical or disingenuous paying tribute to a manager who you just sacked, I'd rather King pays tribute in the programme to Mark Robins because regardless of whether Mark deserved more time or not, his achievements merit that tribute.

Doug has only been here two years and has already made a controversial decision about managerial appointments much like McGinnity did during that same period and I hope it turns out better than that did.

I think King does have a large ego and is clearly willing to make decisions that he feels are right and is incredibly determined that the club be promoted. I personally feel the club's budget likely isn't top six in the league though and he should have curbed his enthusiasm at this stage.

Regardless, I'm relieved that I'm unlikely to have to cringe through listening to Doug's song again and he is no longer the messiah just because he wasn't SISU.

MR binned off AV and insisted on the 'flat' coaching structure we have. Does that mean he has a large ego?

I take King's words about Mark insistence on us having a flat coaching structure with a pinch of salt as we only have one side of the story and I expect will continue to only have one side of that story.

Do I think Mark has a large ego though?

Never met him but yes I think he probably does - I feel he's been pretty ruthless working his way through around 3-4 squads of players during that time to the betterment of the club.

For me, his ego was justified considering his achievements and the same could apply to King depending on how things go.

He mentions the target of “3 play off seasons in 5 years” which is something I’d forgotten about.

Surely by that logic, you should give a manager the time until they can no longer achieve it, otherwise the target is actually play offs every season, otherwise you get sacked.

We’ll never know if we would’ve got play offs again this season. We were 7 points off it with nearly 3/4 of the season to go and in play off form coming into the Derby game. We’re actually still 7th in the form table right now.

Even if we missed play offs this season he still could’ve achieved the 3 in 5 “target”though

Robins hasn’t got us promoted from the Championship, so if the new guy doesn’t he will
Have achieved the same in the championship as Robins

On that basis DK’s decision will neither have worked or failed. It will be neutral.

What if King is right ?
What if Mark is not as good without a high quality coach along side him ? What if he was refusing to bring one in ?

What if tactically Mark is a bit short of what it takes at the top of the pyramid ?

King has several huge advantages over us.

He’s watched Mark at work most days, he’s discussed the issues with Mark in detail on multiple occasions, he’s heard what the players think of the relative merits of Mark and Adi, he will have heard what other people in the game think about Marks capabilities to take us to the next stage again.

We don’t have hardly any of those insights and yet some fans can’t open their mind to the very idea that King could be right. It’s very odd behaviour.

Something I've noticed is the players all seem relatively chipper in their interviews now.
I think it had just gone stale and needed a change but people are finding that hard to accept.

Not sure you can read anything into that or can even gauge how 'chipper' they are.

Players move around, play for different managers. They'll like some better than others. Don't think it will make any difference to them.

Agreed.

For many of our team they will have had a relatively short relationship with Robins, for some of the older ones like Bidwell it will be mixed given that Robins has tried to replace him regularly.

Players like Collins, Kitchin, Torp etc might think they have a fresh chance to impress a new manager.

There will be some, Eccles, Sheaf, that will feel Robins has been brilliant for them but I think for the majority they will simply move on and focus on the next guy.

I too disagree with his sacking. He had the task of putting a management team together and fell short of that. Momentum has dropped. Then other things happen. Player’s contracts, season ticket sales etc. Another rebuild will cost Doug a bob or two.

I think it's interesting that Carr is basically playing the same team Robins did. There haven't been any major shocks in team selections. Not even Collins really as he came in because Dovin had a knock.

Kitching is an interesting one. Not sure how long he'll be sticking around

It’s funny how some decided it was down to ‘Dr Roberts’ and King forcing the changes on Robins and the reason for it all going wrong. Now they seem to have gone quiet about it.

How anyone can defend him coming out with that bullshit yesterday is beyond me.
The condescending prick.

The sooner the new man comes in and he gets back in the back ground the better, (if he can manage to keep himself there and out of the limelight that is).

Good balanced words

How is it balanced? It reads like an Executive Summary and how good old Doug’s project is the saviour.

The first 2/3s of the article is telling us all about the history of the club from foundation to the dark place we were in - like none of us didn’t experience the administration, SixField and St Andrews days. Shockingly bad.

The final line or two is really troubling:
‘He knows how much I wanted this to work with him and the sadness I feel that it did not’.

Robin’s beat every goal set of him and delivered earlier than expected on the Play Off Push. Before Robins, we hadn’t been in any play offs, in any league!

To say it did not work with Robins, is a little potshot and not frankly true, for all of us that have been behind the club for longer than 2 years.

Doug is an egotistical, narcissistic c**t that has fucked up every decision he has come across. The connection between fans and players and staff is gone and now it feels like the club is full of cunts. Doug Queen Out.

I have always scoffed at the 'connection' between the players and fans stuff, our fans write off any signing who hasn't scored 15 goals in his first three games as shite and are some of the biggest boo boys in the league

But it certainly didn't feel yesterday that people weren't signing off the same hymn sheet, you could argue there was more discord when we were booed off against Norwich earlier in the season or Robins was confronted by those idiots at Preston

He comes across as a c**t of a man, scoffing and groaning in forums at anyone that asks reasonable questions and doesn’t bow to his ego.

What he did with the disabled policy, family zone, going out on the pitch dancing to his silly song and putting himself front and centre of the squad photo, are the small little signs that he has no empathy, humility and he’s an ego tist.

You’re right, the sooner he goes back into hiding on holiday with Dr Claire, the better.
