Okay he's no Kieren Westwood but to get on his back and barrack him is no good at all for any goalkeeper. Puts pressure on him and whoever comes in fo him. I'm 50/50 about him but he is also in a poor team.

He was in a poor team at Scunny so should be used to that!

His errors cannot be justified. He can come out in ublic saying "It was my fault" but that doesnt get us poiints does it! Yesterday, he shot a ball right accross his open goal, which like most other things CCFC related recently, is school boy stuff and we shouldnt be making such silly errors!

He's 30 years old. He should be able to take critisism, and as he was half expecting AT to drop him for yesterday shows that he knows his performances are not up to scratch!

Admittidly. he is one of many players in our team who are not performing, but if you keeper is out of form, your guaranteed to concede goals (and considering we're struggling to score goals this season, with this combination, the worse conclusion is going to come even quicker than it already is...................).

Rant over

I think Coventry fans have every right to give Murphy absolute hell. He's cost us more points than any other player this season through absolutely ridiculously basic errors. He doesn't bother with crosses, he isn't a good shot stopper, his distribution is absolutely appalling and he looks perpetually susceptible to almost everything. I don't think he's altogether much better than Scott Shearer was. Crystal Palace away is a prime example, for me, of what Murphy's impact on the side is: our back four played their hearts out from the first whistle to last, and he went and fumbled two simple balls into the six-yard box at the feet of a striker to cost us the game in stoppage time. He simply can't be trusted to play in a Championship level side. He wouldn't get a game anywhere else in the league, and I'm certain of that.

Erm, Murphy is a goalkeeper. Goalkeepers are supposed to be able to catch...Murphy can't. Therefore, I think I have a right to criticise the keeper. Dunn needs to have a chance sooner rather than later.

In fairness i agree that his pre season wasnt the best. Nor were the opinions of Northampton fans. However he needs game time before we can make a full judgement on him. Just think, if Murphy didnt have anyone as competition, it'd give him an excuse to keep playing as he has been, and keep his place!

Like l every other position, we need competition, and back up players challenging each other for their place in the team.

Never know, we might be surprised (OK it was only one half of a game, but he didnt do too badly V Derby did he!!)

If Wrexham go up there will only be one division between them. If we draw them in the Tinpot Windshield Trophy, we can compare them! At least Shearer once save a penalty for us..but I think Murphy is a decent shot-stopper. He's not the worst in the division by any means (that's probably the Southampton reserve or Paul Rabchubka!), but he's a bottom 6 'keeper at best IMO.

Yeah but did you see Clive Platt against Leamington? On that showing he'd have struggled to get a place on the Brakes bench! Yet he is probably..no, certainly our second best striker.

Although Dunn looked nervous in pre-season, he hasn't when he's played for the first team. You can write a guy off for a shaky few minutes in meaningless games if you like. I'd rather focus on his awesome save v Derby and the fantastic way he commanded his area. He was almost unrecognisable from his preseason showings. And he is not a raw kid-he played a lot of games in L1 for Northampton at a young age for a 'keeper and acquitted himself well. Cinsidering that Murphy's best form has been in L1, I don't see much between him and Dunn. With Dunn young and improving, and possessing a greater physical advantage, there is a very reasonable case indeed for giving him a run in the side.

BTW what happened to Danny Ireland? Did he ever get fit in the end? What about Quirke-he was lauded by some as a future star. Has he got a club yet, or has he quit the game for good?

Being in a poor team doesn't stop people from being able to catch a ball.

It is like saying a striker missed a penalty kicking it wide because he was in a poor team!

Is the shot people are claiming he should have caught the rather stunning save he made down to his left? Because he shouldn't have tried to catch that, and he actually pushed it well clear of the danger area. I don't think he did much wrong yesterday, and I'm a critic in general. Yet another case of us only being able to see a players weaknesses and not praise them when they do something good?

He was out with the other GK's warming up the home game before last, but dont recall seeing him yesyerday. Maybe he injured himself in said warm up?? Wouldnt put it past him!!

Danny Ireland had a serious non-football related operation on his stomach about a year ago so lets give the guy a break in his quest to get back on track

He's a terrible keeper. Installs nothing but fear into his back four I imagine!

Fair enough Eleanor, but this guy has been on our books for far too long now! And when ive seen him play, I fear the worst! Id rather have Fabian Debec back than have Ireland in goal!
