A start we could only dream of. Everything and everyone has just clicked from the staff, coaching team to every player who walks onto the pitch. The stability Doug has brought too must also have an effect.

You can see the desire to keep that clean sheet run going and even though we were not as fluid today as previous games you could still see the confidence in the team when we moved the ball around.
It’s a fantastic time to support the sky blues .. enjoy it!

Anyone know why we can’t sell the column of seats by the away segregationi? There’s stewards you could put in the segregation and games like today you could extend it. Surely there’s another couple of hundred you could squeeze out there?

Been saying that for ages, seems really odd when 'sold out'

I don’t see why, when it’s a low away turnout like today, that the fence can’t be moved over and most of block 9 be given to home fans

If we’re still top after 20-25 games, then it’s past the realms of merely a ‘flying start’ and into serious shit-your-pants-in-anticipation territory.

It’s all downhill from Valentines Day IMO. We’ll have played Boro Leicester and Ipswich twice and Southampton away. Depending on how things are shaping up Stoke and WBA later that month too. Last 11 look very winnable TBH. November and December are tough months, so if we’re still in touch with the top New Years Day I’ll start getting very excited.

December I see as the hardest month-so many fixtures combined with conditions that make injuries all the more likely. Get through it in contention for the autos and the cavalry can arrive in January.

I believe they will. The shutters look like they've been upgraded in the concourse.

The fence can be moved as it was when Ipswich sold out the entire end last season in the cup.

Stewards can't go in the segregation bit as they are just seats. They would need to jump over them to get in. Compare our segregation to Huddersfield where police offers and stewards regular walk up and down. It's why you only see stewards and police offers in the Coventry side of the segregation when the end is full. It must be annoying for Doug because it's a waste of 300 unsold seats.

Makes sense. I’ve never been over there so assumed they were gates or something. Even so is standing on the concourse that bad in a game like today with a full block between fans?

They will need to. Blackburn won't be the only side who struggle to sell 3000 tickets.

It's absolutely fine. Plenty of space before the game.

Toilets would struggle with an extra 300 people.

I think I already feel like that a bit to be honest. We are just so good at the moment, and I don't feel fear towards any of our opponents at all.

If we go to Fratton Park and take three points at a ground we got spanked at last season, and with them in considerably stronger shape too, I'll be closer to that way of thinking.

Was the last time we were at the top under Mowbray? I know we had Arma, Kent and Murphy, but it all went tits up after Christmas. I can't see Frank letting things slip like that this time

Looking forward to seeing the 2026 Darius Henderson and Stephen Hunt to get us over the line.

Leicester, Ipswich, Southampton, Boro (possibly Stoke) are the only teams I am viewing as possible contenders for the chase. They will all take points off each other (even if some take points off us). If we can be consistent in winning a lot of the other games, then there is no reason we shouldn't maintain a race for the autos. Leicester will hopefully have a points deduction, which will hopefully derail them. Southampton are a strange team (with a lot of quality) but have already dropped points and we have a 10 point lead over them (plus goal difference). Ipswich and Boro are the 2 most likely contenders imo. Regardless, we just need to keep working hard, and we have Rudi to come back in the not too distant future. The January window will be interesting, as you suspect Boro and Ipswich will spend. Worst case scenario, we go up via a big day out at Wembley

Long way to go, it’s a great start, but only that.

I’ll start to believe if we are still around top or top two in March.

Now officially top of both xg tables (for and against).
Whilst xg stats aren't perfect, they do indicate that we are not top by accident ie we're creating the most chances (and scoring from them), and giving away the least.
What's interesting is that Southampton, Ipswich, Birmingham, and especially Blackburn are all performing far better than their actual points totals and league position. I think we'll all agree that Blackburn were a decent side today, and could feel miffed about the result.
Middlesboro (+6), Stoke (+4), WBA (+3), and Milwall (+3), also seem to be over performing the xg stats too, so hopefully they should fall away slightly.

On a couple of occasions this season, (yesterday being one, can't remember the other), I've thought that if the opposition had Wright or Rudoni they'd beat us.

A couple of key players cam make a huge difference in this league Especially if they can add a little bit of quality and composure in and around the 18 yard box.

. Perhaps Cantwell might have made the difference for them yesterday but he was injured so tough!

A dozen games in is about the time to take stock. If a team is pulling away from the top 6 pack in that top 2 then you can see a pattern emerging. Happens every year. We just have to learn how to be consistent every game and expect to win. I think we have possibly the best first 11 in the league. The job now is motivation to keep it going and not think we will lose at some point - which we will of course. But, like similar teams before them, come straight back with a win again and put the loss behind you quickly. That's the job, and sides who have gone up have done just that.
Squad depth is the factor I'm worried about. If we can keep the pace up till January and add a few new quality faces we can make it. We have good individual talent compared to others, and that is why on a below par performance yesterday, caught out a little by Blaackburn's tactics, we still got the win. At this stage players are playing with freedom and expecting to turn the opposition over. It's a very good sign and we certainly don't fear any team in this league.

51 points in 36 games makes the playoffs
That’s like a 65 point season
That’s the start we have had and anything less from here would be a disaster

Yep! Went top on 21st November… I remember because it was my birthday and I said if we went top I’d go to the colly in full kit (hidden under clothes then got changed in the toilet once in).

After Saturday I am slightly worried about the players feeling the pressure. Was a very middling performance until the first goal went in then suddenly players and crowd relaxed and things clicked.

That’s where having a manager who played at the very top comes in handy.

If Lampard can’t help them cope with pressure, no one can

We are not going to play fantastic football and blitz teams every week. Good sides find a way to get a result when not at their best. Most teams that have won league titles didn’t play well every week
