Given that Sisu are just a hedge fund responsible for investing other peoples money the rather obvious question I have is this. Does Sisu actually have anyone lined up to fund the development of a stadium? Given that the stadium may be owned by a different Sisu entity to the one that owns Coventry what guarantee is there for the stadium investor that a future Coventry board won't relocate the club all over again? Also what evidence does Sisu have to support the view that fans will return to watching the sky blues?

I think these a fundental questions which may be the real cause of the lack of progress being made to agree a new stadium deal.

Going back a couple of years, they were talking about bringing in more investors to "share the burden" in their memorable phrase.

For whatever reason, new investors don't seem to be on the agenda unless these are SISU clients. TF said that the new stadium will be funded by taking on more debt, which will go against our club's name, not SISU or their investors. Thanks for that SISU - we don't need a new ground or more debt.

Of course it's all academic as the new stadium is about as likely as me winning a best actor Oscar.

A new stadium makes no commercial sense. Its not happening.

Agree - the only possibly way it could happen is if it gets built on the very cheap, with pretty temporary stands. The minute a return to the Ricoh was on the cards, the club could easily clear the site, sell the land on for brownfield development (probably housing) and only stand to make a small net loss at worst. Meanwhile they would be keeping up the pressure on ACL.

As I write this it seems unlikely, but certainly a Brighton-style arena must be out of the question.

ok RFC, I'm awake. Indulge me - what do you think the 'plan' is - particularly if CCFC lose the JR. What support for the plan do you think there will be from the current stayaway fans ? What division do you think we will be in the season after next? Do you think either Calum or SP will be with us the season after next?

I love City, but if we've not moved, I'm going for L2, gone and gone. Over to you......

Could the plan with the new stadium be to share it with Nuneaton, they are knocking on the football league door and I'm not sure the current ground would be up to standards. Just for the record I'm in the "it will never happen camp"

That doesn't chime with the "building our own ground" rhetoric...another option could be to take over Hinkley's ground now they are out of business.

If it is on plan then I think there will be some way (or prior arrangement) so it can be unloaded to another sporting club, e.g. relocated Coventry Bees, Solihull Moors FC, the NEC etc.. or who knows what, possibilities depend very much on where it might be located. Though my gut feeling is it will never be built as the FL will be told about lots of 'stumbling blocks' to progress.

No chance, there is as much commercial sense in moving there as moving to Northampton, besides they are reforming the club as Hinckley AFC http://www.hinckleytimes.net/news/local-news/greene-king-dream-bid-hinckley-6732599

Don't want to wander off thread too much, but is there a new someone special in your life Grendel? I've noticed a slight 'change' in tone - and more gentle humour than outright Grendelness (I know there's no such word, but couldn't find quite the right phrase) recently. Hope everything's ok with you? If you're being held hostage by someone with a more gentle disposition, just drop in the word 'bufoon' somewhere in the next couple of posts and I'll arrange a rescue party

Found the new ground and it's in coventry ready for next season- No need for new investors either

Coventry - Virginia - only an 8 hour flight and 3 hour car drive for home games. Season tickets will be reduced to £5.00 to compensate the true fans. The rest of us will have to tune in to USA today for live commentary at 8.00 in the evenings. But the real bad news is that I've heard from a good source that they will be applying for a name change to ' Coventry Comets' in an attempt to drum up some local support. Other sources close to the club said the the SLT understand that this may upset some of the fans even more, but F&B sales should go up as the Americans have even bigger appetites then the stay away fans here, and although they may see a fall in pie sales, market research tells them to expect hot dogs and burgers to fly off the shelf.

To sell a property investment you need an appropriate rate of return and a creditworthy tenant.

A Stadium unlike say a Shop does not have that many potential replacement tenants. See Ricoh.

Just to consider our stadium issues from a more realistic perspective for a minute.......... what happens if Northampton get relegated as seems likely? They are not rolling in cash, an immediate return to the league could be tricky, especially with what funds they have been tied up in the redevelopment of Sixfields. With the Cobblers out of the league, we would presumably get preference on the fixtures so could go back to playing on a Saturday which might get a few more bums on seats. You might even see the odd Northampton fan coming to watch the Sky Blues instead. Buying in to an existing and soon to be expanded stadium looks a hell of lot more appealing to SISU than trying to build their own.

I said from the moment we left the Ricoh that there were only 3 possible outcomes; Liquidation, the council buckling and selling the Ricoh to SISU on the cheap or we end up staying in Northampton permanently. Council have made it pretty clear they don't want to sell and I imagine if they were going to liquidate it would have been done already. So...............

But who provides the loans to build the stadium? My understanding is that it's not the banks normally but investors

According to the rules this should have happened this season but the FL chose to ignore their own rules as usual. I imagine next season it will be scheduled so Northampton and us are at Sixfields on alternate Saturdays.

Maybe so. I just have this awful feeling that Sixfields is now our permanent home. A name change from Coventry City to something less geographically specific is surely not far away.

Thats what i said when the notion of leaving the Ricoh was first mooted. Not a chance I said. Then look what happened......

With each passing day i am more and more convinced that the plan is to stay in Northampton and become franchise FC

There doesn't seem to be any logical reason I can see for moving to Northampton on a permanent basis. I see zero chance of that.
